I'm looking for a device to play music, and maybe some other stuff. Considering an ARM-based board.
I'd been using a 2007 macbook that I got on its way to the trash a few years ago, but it died yesterday. Was largely only using it to play music and watch things on youtube. My other computer (which I found at the same time) is a 2005 dell, and the headphone jack doesn't work properly. It might well be on its way out too.
Need a 1:1 replacement, but don't want to buy another laptop. Considering a small ARM chip, like an Odroid. Generally I don't like macs, but I had sort of gotten used to it, and do like the durable aluminum case. Don't know of any other laptop with something similar, but with a small chip I could probably just make one myself.
Is this as viable as I think? Any other suggestions?

Have a few uses in mind. Just beginning to (slowly) learn about circuit design. Something like that would do for now.

I have it. It's fine. Somewhat expensive data-wise, 1GB is $10. However there's no fees for going over your data, you just get charged the fractional rate of the next GB i.e. 130mb over = +$1.30. if you go under your data, the difference is refunded on the same bill. The real draw of it for me was that outside the US, your data costs are exactly the same. My work sends me overseas regularly so I was happy with that. I now get to keep most of the generic "Data Reimbursement" I get.

alright, this may be a stupid question, but there's a certain thing I can't quite understand.
so my desktop pc died almost a year ago.
time to make myself a new one.
but there's a thing;
I want to have two GPU's and a M.2 SSD
X99 paired with i7-6900K offers me 40 PCI lanes, and
Z170 with i7-6700K - only 16?
so if I go with x99 with 6900K:
2x GPU will consume 32 lanes,
M.2 SSD will get 4 more lanes, that's like 36 lanes.
if I add another M.2 SSD over either available M.2 or adapter from PCIe, I'll populate all 40 lanes.
what's left for I/O then?
like what's gonna manage USB 3.0 ports and LAN shit?
am I missing something? or not quite understanding?

So I was playing VA-11 HALL-A when suddenly my laptop monitor turned black, then white, with the game still playing. I had to exit the game, and when I did, pic related happened to my desktop icons, looks like they formed a cross.
I'm spooked now, did I catch a virus or something? Currently doing a quick scan with Norton Security. It detected 37 tracking cookies, figure thats normal.
