What is your preferred method of group communication? Discord, Skype, Slack, something else?
I don't communicate.

Hmmm, whatever the group chooses. I've no preference.
Fastest browser for Android? Opera mini is pretty fast, several times faster than Chrome, but i am wondering maybe there are even faster browsers?

is "hurr systemd is eevuulll" meme dead yet? I saw only a few incidents of fullretard last month. Remember when "systemd is eeeviiill u guise the general" threads were here all day erry day like Trump generals in /pol/? Like year or two ago?
If any of the sperglords who went full retard, do tell did any of your dumbfuck doomday scenarios happen. I'm curious.

I prefer systemd
>>56390106
It's just a vocal minority hippies that can't stand systemd because it won't work in their shitty BSD toys
>>56390106
i prefer human readable shell scripts in /etc/rc.d as in slackware or the old school debian in /etc/init.d with symlinks in the runlevel directories /etc/rcS.d /etc/rc0.d /etc/rc1.d /etc/rc2.d /etc/rc3.d /etc/rc4.d /etc/rc5.d /etc/rc6.d for customized run level configurations
Hello /g/. Nowadays, gentoo is considered a meme distro simply because it's infamous for its difficult install. Today, I'm going to end this meme, I will prove to you that Gentoo is actually the best linux distro, and that anyone who isn't using it is missing out.
So list all of your complaints about Gentoo and I will retort.
I'll start off with some easy ones that I know you're going to complain about
>spending 24 hours to install a linux distro
while I admit that this is a major drawback, there is a solution to this.
Calculate Linux is a gentoo-based distro that still uses the Gentoo repositories, but just has some preconfigured bloat, which can easily be removed.
It still uses the Gentoo repositories, so it's pretty much just Gentoo with an installer and an update manager. Check it out on DistroWatch.
>needing to compile everything
this again is fixed by Calculate Linux. Calculate takes advantage of portage binhosts by having one set up for you by the time you install. Binhosts are basically the Gentoo version of binary repositories. you can see more information on this at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Binary_package_guide
>gentoo is not as stable as debian / as cutting-edge as arch or fedora
this is a misconception that I see everywhere, and it really annoys me. Some person who's never used Gentoo makes somes presumption about how rolling release Gentoo is, just based on everything else. Most people even liken it to Arch on the level of timesink and rolling release!!! This is seriously false and needs to stop.
The way Gentoo handles versions is actually one of its primary redeeming features. This is difficult for me to explain in a mere 4chan post, so simply take a look at https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:X86/Portage/Branches. It is a really short read, I imagine it has fewer characters than this entire post. But it explains Gentoo releases perfectly.
Alright. Now bitch away!
Okay, I guess I pretty much answered everything you guys would have thought to ask.
Will you install gentoo now?
>>56390202
I may install it later on, but trying to shill Calculate instead of normal gentoo installation is like trying to convince people to install Antergos than the normal Arch routine, because you don't have to do some "difficult and time-consuming task"
>>56390606
But Calculate is literally just gentoo, it uses their repos and everything. It just doesn't have insane defaults

The only thing you know is consumerism. There are many things that are more important in life than your video games and graphics cards and gadgets.
It didn't have to be this way...
Anyone here with a MacBook?
Post your opinions, experiences etc.
Is it worth it?
Genuinely curious about the 12 inch MacBook.
Is it worth doing moderately powerful stuff on? I've been watching the YouTube reviews and one side says it's literally a FB/Office machine while the other shows the thing processing a 4k video at really good speeds.
>>56390047
Note that video editing is extremely CPU intensive
I have a laptop with i7 4710HQ clocked at around 2.5Ghz and it stutters at 4K video editing.
This is why I highly doubt that an intel core M clocked at under 1.5ghz without fans can handle 4K editing "good"
The biggest sleeper-hit feature of the 12" MacBook is that it charges via a form of USB. This means that power banks will work on it, which means you can stuff hours of extra runtime into your loadout at your sole discretion, and at low cost.
Indeed, in a lot of ways, while the MacBook is a specific set of compromises, those compromises can often be rebalanced in such a way as to add functionality over what came before. I like to call this "macro-customization".
Incidentally, the same concept applies to the iPad. Want a keyboard? Alright, stick one on there via Bluetooth or the Smart Connector. Don't want a keyboard? That's fine too, you can go without one. Want better sound? Attach a speaker or headphones. Want more power? Don't pry the back off and swap the battery, just get a standardized power bank instead.
Are Kingston SSDs reliable?
Was going to gamble on a 240gb KingDian chink SSD off Amazon, but the Kingston UV400 is only $5 more.

Why does 4chan still use ReCaptcha when it's proven that it deanonymizes its users? Aren't there any alternatives?

4chan isn't and has never been anonymous in such way that you're anonymous to everyone. You're only anonymous to other users of the website.

Can we just sit down and discuss the pros and cons of Windows vs Linux?
/g/ can be reasonable, yes?
>>56389769
Well there are no pros with Linux other than it being free
>>56389769
lincux sucks because there's no private software and all gui solutions suck in their own way
windows sucks because the gui part is disjointed too and there are many small usability/architecture fallacies

we could... but its already been done desu

Related.. ive spent about three days trying to diagnose a problem with a linux virtual machine I use to host my websites and it dropping network connectivity, it seems like its putting the virtual network adapter to sleep or something or its going to sleep and linux is not preventing it. Anyways im now using a windows guest which dosent exhibit this problem. Now im getting fucking drunk because its been a shitty three days fucking around with this shit.
Linux is literally making me an alcoholic, add that to the fucking list.
Diet ginger beer and vodka while I watch mr robot episode.
Is your computer a tool or a toy?
its a tool for playing with toys
A toy.
>>56389767
For the majority of people on here, a toy. An overpriced glorified gaming console that they use to play bad console ports and shitty indie games that are all the same.
I've given into the botnet:
>Nexus 5
>Gmail
>Chrome always login in
>Save password
>Use location data
And nothing bad has happened, or will ever happen. You're all a bunch of tinfoil hat wearing crazies.

I see from your love of cuckolding your future that you really enjoy the cucking you get from the authoritarian regime.
just because you enjoy those things happening to you and want them to, does not mean you should force them to also happen to everybody else.
you faggot.
As you may or may not know, Obama is handing over the keys to the internet to the U.N. on October 1st, 2016
The U.N. has been suppressing public speech in the EU/UK forever now, so Google is taking a preventative measure so they don't get sued when that transition happens.
Free speech on the internet is at it's end. It's pretty much done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv1Wo9Eg40k
The DNS Server that controls the entire internet (Everything with a .com at the end, or .org. Like 4chan.org) was controlled by the United States.
On October 1st, they relinquish control of the DNS protocol to all the foreign bureacracies of the world.
The practical effect on this is that it means other countries besides the United States can take down websites without having to go to the U.S. beforehand, which has had a history of protecting its First Amendment rights.
If the U.N. wants to take down a website for hate speech, they can do so now without any intervention by the U.S. This also means all websites that exist within DNS (this means 4chan.org) must answer to the laws of ALL countries, not just one.
Doesn't matter where in the world your website/server is anymore, you must respect the laws of all countries or be taken down.
Since the U.N. bans hate speech, that's out the window.
Is this the end of 4chan??
>Obama is handing over the keys to the internet to the U.N. on October 1st, 2016
No, he's handing them over to ICANN. ICANN does not have to become a vassal of the U.N, and we can easily give them an antitrust exemption without requiring government oversight. It would take only one act of congress.
>>56389853
>and we can easily give them an antitrust exemption without requiring government oversight. It would take only one act of congress.
