also what are the most useful certs? i hear cloud computing and virtualization are going to be big. what are the best certs to get into that?
>>
I really want to get my A+ certification and the last time I took it I was really close to passing. I was also like 16 when I took it last and now I'm 24.

>turns out fb added another level of security, now it sends a confirmation message to cellphones when you try to log in from another device
>well fuck
>she lives in another city, so fb probably notified her what city my computer's from

If I can get the datasheet for which pins do what for mpcie and pcie, could I solder up my own egpu adapter?

How much of a bottleneck would pcie 3.0 1x be?

The answer to that question is in the datasheet

Enough to make the whole thing not worth the hassle

Explain why you don't run on Windows XP still?

Welcome to /fglt/ - Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Which distro is best?
>>

The one I'm using.

Mint, Apartheid

I've been using open/libreELEC on a pi for the past year about, but I've somewhat recently frankenstein'd a computer into a home server.

Since then I've set up Plex and have been having fun with it (despite its proprietary nature). The portability is probably the nicest part of it.

I don't like RasPlex though, as it hinders me from watching non-library media (dude PORN LOL) while LibreELEC has a file browser. The actually viewing options are better with LibreELEC as well: Not only does it have a better in-progress menu and dynamics in my opinion (it doesn't pause as soon as you start to FF/Rewind), but there's no scroll bar I've been able to find in the library view outside of downloading a skin and using a certain view.

But enough about me. What do you guys use? Have any tips or any other shit I should check out?

but with RasPlex*

I should also note that I have roommates and a few other residents that'd like to make use of my server, so in that regard Plex is probably safer and definitely easier than setting up some weird SFTP restricted key-based media server thing. Or maybe Samba, but I'm hesitant towards allowing that (even with passwords) in such a public network.
>>
is this the return of the elusive /home server general/?

I recently got a cheap POS rackmount server to run freenas on
how good is kodi at transcoding? is it near the level of PLEX?
>>
>>56411855
That's the main problem with Kodi. It's not so much a media server as a client with nifty scrapers and add-ons and plug-ins. Any transcoding is handled by the client.

Not a big deal for some, but for me and other RPi2 users (not sure how pi3/odroid/etc fare), it means it artifacts on 10-bit color and can't handle h265 very well at all.

I bought a factory refurbished Asus R9 290 and in Unigine Heaven it goes to 93c. My case is practically housing a tornado inside so it's not airflow. I know the R9 290 is HOT as fuck but this hot? In the summer it could be hitting 100 with higher ambient temps.

Should I just return this instead?

If not then raise the GPU fan curve if you care. Should be fine at those temps though. Modern high end cards are all that hot.
