Hi,
My life has been centered around technology ever since my parents got me my first computer, a Toshiba Satellite running Windows 95 when I was 2 years old. Throughout most of my life, my socialization had been through the Internet (gaming & social media) as I never left my home for schooling. I remember when I was 9 years old and I was nagging my parents to buy me a iBook G4 (I preferred PowerPC processors to Intel, as well as the 12.1" form factor than the 13.3" MacBook) by making them take me to the mall every week until they bought me a MacBook Pro. By 11, I wanted a gaming computer, I liked the design of Acer and Ailenware as well as Falcon Northwest enclosures but my passion for individual components was incredible. I became a fanboy for ATi graphics cards after my mother had bought me four 4890's when I was on working-vacation with her in Nevada. I had built, overclocked and unlocked an additional locked core of a CPU by age 11 and built and designed $120,000 rack server (multiple SR-2's with quad graphics setup for GPU processing) for my mom's company.

I poured lots of energy into gaming and reestablished a gaming community that I had set up with others back when I was 9 and made it into a company by 13 when one of my parents died. I became interested while working on my startup in computer security and cryptography (a field that my mother works/worked in) as well as Bitcoin in 2010. By the end of my 14th birthday, I had earned over $100,000 however I was undergoing legal issues at the time. I decided that if I could earn this amount of money with what I had, I could do whatever I wanted independently and out of the eyes of the State (I joined the Ron Paul campaign when I was 8) and joined activist communities such as Occupy Wall Street and participated in some anonymous activities. By 16, my legal problems had ended and I was above a million in net worth due to bitcoin mining. The Snowden revelations had hit by the time I was 17 and I invested in privacy conscious hosting companies, software development companies (mostly netsec) and had a real estate investment pending for my 18th birthday. All of my angel investments have failed, and I am completely bored with technology. Is it time that I move on? I can go weeks without using a keyboard and mouse but when I was 12+, I spent 100+ hours a week working behind computer screens.

is this the birth of an epic new meme?

No.
What is the best DNS to use?
I'm not sure why but Youtube is going horrifically slow lately for me and I am curious as to whether it's my DNS or not.
Use Google. Your experience with the botnet should be warm and intimate. Alphabet; Just Good Things!

Seriously answers only please; omitting your response.
how do I patent software so nobody can steal my idea?
software patents are cancer
>>56425634
>not proffiting over your work
>being a commie retard.
>>56425678
Software patents are rarely held by those that developed the software in the first place. I would go as far as claim that 90% of software patents are held by patent trolls that don't even have a software development team.

Is it a scam?

tablets already exist with the same spec
otherwise its a unique design, i would like to own it and use it as a phone and productivity shit

Intel *Atom*
LOL, fucking hell. If that's real my cock is 12".
Ok, /g/, can we discuss Web Development and can you tell me what tier it is in terms of employment? I have a feeling you'll say shit-tier, but other than that, is it atleast a decent field to be in?
I know you'll tell me to study CS, but I fucking suck at Math. Like, really bad. I barely passed Trig, and a BS in CS at my college requires me to take up to I think Calc2 or DiffEq. I cannot and will not do that, so I chose Web Development.
>>56425121
It's a very lucrative field that doesn't require very much skill. Don't listen to all the unemployed neckbeards here.
>>56425142
I'm skeptical as to how lucrative it can be. Wages listed everywhere I look are from $70,000 - $100,000
How in the fuck is that possible?
>>56425176
I'd be interested in this as well.
I don't see how HTML and CSS is enough for employment, you can learn it in a few weekends.
APOLOGISE

I'm verry sorry

What is /g/'s opinon?
ASUS 6GB 1060 TURBO IN SLI
>>56425099
Any reason why it's your pick?
Opinions? Better options?
I'm looking to upgrade from a wooden PC. Is buying seperate and building really THAT much cheaper?
Sorry for retard post.
>>56424959
A guy who is willing to invest into THREE FUCKING MONITORS shouldn't be buying package retarded as this.
>retarded mouse
>retarded keyboard
>wireless devices, I hope you like batteries
>retarded case
>super weak outdated GPU
>wifi adapter (really, you want your PC to lag like your phone does?)
>AMD CPU even when AMD shills admits Intel has no competition whatsoever now
>outdated RAM
>only 1 TB HDD, where will you put all the anime OP?
Seriously, find any LOCAL online shop and put up a list from here:
http://www.logicalincrements.com/
Don't ever go into more than one GPU, buy ONE monitor, like 27" WQHD. Buy some mouse and keyboard, chances of getting shit is high, so don't assume the highest price will be good you. GTX1070 will carry your gaming needs for a long time despite all the shilling battles on /g/.
If you can't into building, any better shop offers to assembly it for you and test it's functionality, some even for free.

if you had even a shred of self respect you would kill yourself
How long until Microsoft releases perfect viruses that completely kill Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (they have the resources to pull that off) and everyone has to switch to Windows 10? They are trying to do a hardware lock (with intel 100 chipsets giving troubles and upcoming gaby lake cpus not allowing W7 at all) but it wont make replace every system.
>>56424899
1 year
Prepare those USB installers
>>56424899
AMD Zen will be W10 only as well
>>56424899
Intel and AMD's decision to not support old OSs is perfect. Maybe some day Microsoft could fix the clusterfuck that is Windows because of old software support.
Email services thread
So I'm trying to find alternatives to gmail and I'm baffled at how shitty the market is. Here's what I've come up with so far. If you have any comments on these or other email services as proper substitutions to free services, I'd love to hear them. I'm especially interested in stuff I can sync contacts and calendars with on both Windows 10 and Android if that even exists.
mail.com
Pros:
- Has a premium ad-free option.
- Has a lot of free domain names to pick from, most of which are stupid, but at least mail.com isn't.
Cons:
- IMAP and app support are premium
- Suspicious how unpopular an email service called mail.com is.
- I have yet to figure out if you can sync the calendar with standard apps and how because their website is glitchy as fuck. I got a bad impression about the whole thing here because it doesn't seem like syncing is a big deal to them. If I figure it out, I'll post about it.
- Fails to work on Pale Moon.
gmx.com
Pros:
- An email address that ends with gmx.com doesn't look stupid on a resume.
- IMAP support
- Calendar
- Has its own smartphone app
Cons:
- Can not sync contacts or calendar, even when using the fucking app. So it's basically as useful as IMAP support.
- Is eerily similar to mail.com despite having no premium option and more free features. Also fails to work on Pale Moon.
runbox.com (Premium only. Cheapest package at $20/year)
Pros:
- I don't know.
Cons:
- Doesn't have a calendar feature. Not worth my time.
Yahoo.com
Pros:
- Perfect for obese baby boomers to chat about the weather.
- There's emoticons, chat, a news feed and other such never-seen before features.
- When it works, you can go "Yahoo! I am receiving electronic mail on the information superhighway!"
Cons:
- Yellow and purple are an objectively bad color scheme. Anyone who disagrees should be executed.
(cont)
Fastmail.com (Premium only. Cheapest package at $3/month)
Pros:
- Seems pretty much like it supports every modern email/calendar service feature.
Cons:
- I wanted my email address to have a period and a dash, both of which are not supported. Why? Because fuck you.
gmail for business:
Pros:
- Like gmail except without all the shit people dislike gmail for
Cons:
- Requires your own domain name. I guess they don't want their common "product" user to transcend their purpose to "customer".
Outlook.com
Pros:
- Fully featured and shit
- Syncs perfectly with Windows 10's mail app and with Microsoft Outlook. Who would have thought?
- Secretly supports Exchange ActiveSync if you google how to use it.
Cons:
- Doesn't allow to edit contacts in Android, unless you use the Exchange ActiveSync protocol. Why? That's only supported on Windows """""phones""""".
- The Exchange ActiveSync protocol will, every now and then, eat up several hundred megabytes of data for no reason on Android. I switched to gmail specifically because it was costing me money because of that.
- Only supports IMAP and POP3 for non-proprietary email clients.
- The security features are annoying as fuck. I lost many throwaway accounts because they wanted me to get a security code from other accounts that I had abandoned. I provided my fucking password. Let me sign in.
No one wants to talk about this?
mail.ru
what's the best 1070? most likely going with the evga version but i want more opinions.
>>56424807
EVGA is always a safe bet
Gigabyte is decent, MSI too
I got an MSI.
Are all modern GPUs such a pain in the ass to remove or just MSI?
>>56424889
MSI always makes fuckhuge cards with gigantic riced out coolers so yeah they're probably worse in that aspect

Better whale use fedora than a nice one use arch.
I love to code but I find CS shit extremelly boring.
I'm really talented for math but I find it extremelly boring and rather learn music or drawing or humanities.
I need some motivation to help me pick software engineering rather than literature.
books are dumb
You already have the motivation. You like and are good at writing programs. Now you need DISCIPLINE to grind through the uninteresting parts so you can be a good programmer. It sucks but we all have to deal with it as adults.
Counterstrike is good game shut up
Who's your favourite tech reviewer, /g/? Mine is Lisa Gade from MobileTechReview. She's very knowledgeable and detailed, focusing on the things that matter. Erica Griffin is also pretty good. Her focus on camera, display, and multitasking are helpful for the average consumer.
I also kind of like Michael Fisher aka MrMobile but I do have to admit his vision is a bit too unrealistic for regular users. Plus he's into Windows phones shit. DetroidBORG is also good. Clear and no-bullshit reviews. I also like that he films himself using the phone, letting people see more of the device's interface and features.
On the other hand, MKBHD and Linus are garbage, especially the former. He just reads the specs and that's it. The only good thing he has going on is the production value of his videos. Linus is a shill and too much of an anti-Apple fag.
>>56424302
Tech reviewers are good so long as they say nvidia is best gpu brand
>>56424302
Leave review auntie alone.
She's pretty good, stop with this youtube stalking bullshit, go back to that faggot logan or something OP.
>>56424356
Erm, I'm saying I like her though.
