My first and only smartphones have been iPhones. Never used Android and haven't kept up on what the best Android devices are.

I'm sick of Apple's shit and looking to get an Android within the next couple months.

I'm looking for a fast and secure device. That's all I really need. Other add-ons (a decent camera, for example) would be nice but are unnecessary.

Could you recommend me a phone?

Thanks /g/.

Interestingly enough I'm sick of Samsung's shit and was looking to get an iPhone within the next couple of months - the "Apple Upgrade Programme" where you can pay it over 20 months with 0% credit finance.

Why is it shit? Never used an apple product.

I mean if you're ok buying a phone from a company that pushes its proprietary hardware onto you and deviates from industry standards in order to squeeze money out of its customers while simultaneously monopolizing their data that's on you.

I've been inside the Apple "walled garden" for about six years and you begin to see how restrictive and crippling it can be.

The phones are built very well, look good, and are well-optimized but all of that comes at a price.

I once wanted to make modifications to a large program OOP written in style, after some time I rewrote the whole thing in pure C. I guess OOP is good for databases and some other things
>>

OOP is the only practical way to break down the programming to multiple plug-and-play pieces guaranteed to work together.

It's great for industrial-scale programming and very complex applications.

My GTX 1060, the best price/performance card on the market, is working out for me just fine, thanks for asking!
>>
>>56539931
Summary
Reasons to consider GeForce GTX 1060

40 watts lower power draw. This might be a strong point if your current power supply is not enough to handle the GeForce GTX 460 .
This is a much newer product, it might have better long term support.
Higher theoretical gaming performance, based on specifications.
Supports PhysX.
Supports G-Sync.
Supports ShadowPlay (this feature enables game streaming with minimum performance penalty).
Supports Direct3D 12 Async Compute.
Reasons to consider GeForce GTX 460

Supports PhysX.
Based on an outdated architecture (Nvidia Fermi), there are no performance optimizations for current games and applications.

I'm not gonna lie, you're probably right

Apple shouldn't.

In fact all phone and internet infrastructure as natural monopolies should be nationalised. Project Fi is merely lip-stick on the pig that is private control of network infrastructure and limited frequency bands sold off to milk us dry on essential communications.

Hey /g/, networking noob here.

I want a way to sync all my files between my desktop and my laptop, whilst also keeping the files locally on each device. Looked at paid solutions but realised I'd rather host my own "cloud" so I have more control / because I don't want to give my files to the botnet.

Did some research and found out about owncloud. My plan now is to buy a raspberry pi and an external harddrive and create my own file server. (I know the bandwidth of the pi is terrible due to the shared ethernet and usb controller but I'm only going to be syncing small files so it isn't an issue).

My problem now is that I'm going to be moving to uni and using their network, which definitely won't allow port forwarding. How could I access this server over the internet with this in mind? Is there some way to rent a server and use it as a proxy between my computer and my cloud server over the internet?

>>
>>56539613
Buy a VPS. Just google it.
>>
>>56539697
Wouldn't tunnelling encrypted files be safer though? If I'm the one encrypting the files I know there's no backdoor, and the server will only see fully encrypted files, unlike cloud services which you upload unencrypted files to and trust they encrypt them properly.

I'm
>First time really using node, I sometimes hit some type of condition where a certain GET will fail and in the logs it will show as taking a really long time. I essentially load the main page and then use the public js to load /foo. The main page loads fine. And even if I navigate to /foo directly it will never load. Only solution is to restart the node server process.
>GET /foo 200 104659ms

>Post code

This is all called by the home page:
//public.js
$.get( '/videos', parameters, function(data) {
$('#vid').append(data);
});

//app.js
app.get('/videos', home.videos);

//index.js
exports.videos = function(req, res){
var first = returnSanitizedNumValOrDefault(req.query.first, 0);
var max = returnSanitizedNumValOrDefault(req.query.max, 1); // must be > 0
var go_to_page = returnSanitizedNumValOrDefault(req.query.goToPage, 1);

req.getConnection(function(err,connection){
var queryString = 'SELECT * FROM vids LIMIT ' + first + ', ' + max;
var query = connection.query(queryString, function(err,rows){
if(err)
console.log(err);
if(rows.length) {
res.render('layouts/vids_regional', {
go_to_page:go_to_page,
data:rows
});
}
});
});
};

vids_regional is an ejs file

Any way I can debug this? It's a sporadic problem and all the google info I found was all or nothing, this works 99% of the time. console.log(err) never happens as it eventually return 200, just after the browser has given up.

Also first

How come most if not at all motherboards have an internal com port header still?

Seems like something penny pinching chinks would abolish.

Unless you interface with PLCs and stuff like that, there is no reason to have a com port on a consumer grade motherboard.

Maybe because removing it means changing the basics of basic in the chipset which are so old, reliable and cheap to produce that actually removing it would cost more in development and probably introduce new bugs.

You think when they design new chipset they start from scratch?
I doubt it. Also why to remove features which costs like nothing compared to the whole price of product? MB's designers aren't Apple. Yet.
