I want to make my laptop's (Dell Latitude D620) battery last forever. I plan on doing the following:
>Get a 12-cell battery (they make them, AGPTek) and replace the cells with high-quality cells from Panasonic (18650, 3400mAh)
>Possibly change processors to something more power-efficient (L series has 10W TDP, U has 5.5W). Need a donor mobo though
>Get a media bay battery. Maybe mod it out with custom cells
>do everything in software to increase battery life (wifi power saving, sound power saving, tlp, conservative governor, etc.)
Anything else I can do to make this last forever? Also, would having a media bay battery increase charging speeds?
>>56540661
A Panasonic 3400mAh has roughly 13Wh of power, so a 12-cell battery filled with them has ~155Wh of power.
The standard media bay battery has 48Wh of power, so let's add that as well (new cells could revive or increase this number if the cell is too old).
The computer has 203Wh of battery power. The current CPU (T7200), has a voltage range of 1.0375V to 1.3V, making the total wattage draw somewhere between 27W and 34W of power. Let's assume we stick to the lowest most of the time and bring it up slowly (up and down threshold in conservative is custom, switches a lot).
203.04/((0.99+27)+(0.01+34)) = 7.5 hours
Let's drop an hour due to screen, wifi, GPU, fans, etc. I am looking at just over six hours of on-time, which is okay.
Get an SSD thats much more power efficent than a HDD. Also see if you can get an IPS screen

I already have an SSD. Let me look into an IPS screen.

A day ago, I was called to my mother's workplace. The people there know jack dick about computers, barely use them, mostly use word/excel anyway.
I was tasked with cleaning up their shit and installing some antivirus. (I went with avg because I figured they'd actually know how it works).
There was some funky stuff, like a computer where the user was not an administrator, or I kid you not, adobe reader running or startup, etc etc. The worst part was probably a 32-bit windows 7.
Then it hits me. I realize the position I am in. This was my destiny, the seed that was planted ages ago will now sprout.
I went back to the computer used by the least tech-sawwy person and renamed Chrome to Ultron.
In two days, I'll be called to check on the remaining three PC's, If I get asked about Ultron, I'll say that it's an upgrade for chrome that's based on it, hence it looks the same.
The legacy is fulfilled.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Hey /g/ I want to focus a bit more on the security of my main machine.
Honestly I don't keep anything of real importance (Games, Movies, TV shows, and Wallpapers is all I have)
I still want to stay safe though, just for piece of mind, well at least a bit more.
I disabled the piece of shit that is Windows Defender, and got me MalwareBytes, so far so good.
Besides common sense what are some other tools I should I use? Want to protect my machine against zero-day exploits, and other forms of malware.
What do you guys recommend and use?

Windows Defender is not good at all, would remove files I knew for certain were not malware.

Why is it always that all SJWs do web dev? Why are there no SJW kernel devs?
>>56540270
They're not aware that the internet exists outside of their web-browser, or development exists outside of github.
>>56540270
Because it's customer focused, most women can't stand to be alone for more than five minutes
And even the ones that do are usually attention-seeking on the Internet
