What are some good projects to show to employers if one wants to be come a sysadmin, particularly involving linux? I'm thinking of getting a cloud server for setting up a blog where I talk about learning linux and other technologies, and also my experiences with LUGs. What do you guys think?
Phone thread
I need a cheap phone with a good sound quality for my headphones since my ruggear can't get some 3.5 mm jacks inside, you guys got some suggestions?

this one is highly recommended
I found an iPhone 5s in the road. It was passcode protected, it had its servce cancelled (no service in notification bar), and Siri inaccessible so no way to contact original owner. I posted on Craigslist saying I found a lost iPhone and where, still no response from anyone.
Is it essentially a brick now? I figured it was a lost cause and did a factory restore, but it has an activation lock.
Anything worth doing with it, or is this a toss in the bin situation?

find one of those mall kiosks that pays you for a phone and dump it in there, get some cash
Did the phone happen to be in the possession of someone other than yourself at the time that you found it?
>>56556015
I'm not particularly concerned with using it as an actual cell phone and would be fine with keeping it as a wi-fi only development / futz around device.
If its impossible to even do something like that, then yeah I'll probably do like you recommended.

i found it elbow deep inside a mans b-hole and i figured yo whatever, finders keepers.

As an eurofag born in 1998, explain to me what AOL is/was. I've seen old Windows versions including a "Connect to AOL" icon.

Oh boy.......
This thread hurts me.
>tfw born in 97 and call everyone younger than me a newfag and underage b& on the internet
So after flashing a custom ROM, my phone boots up completely normally. That is until I get to the home screen, however. The moment the screen goes off, it won't turn on again, until I either hard reset or pull the battery. I then have to clear Dalvik/factory reset to get out of a bootloop, thus restarting the cycle. This isn't the first flashing of this ROM that's gone this way. I'm just wondering if anyone would know what the root of this issue is, and how to prevent it.
Another bump
Restore the original ROM

I'm bored with stock, and I really want this ROM to work. So I don't see that as an option, unfortunately.
Company Culture Thread. Whats your company like /g/?
>22 years old working at telecommunications company developing web apps
>everyone around me is in their late 40s and 50s
>money is decent but pretty miserable overall
>all anyone talks about is their kids, didn't know this is what i signed up for after graduating cs.
>19 year old working at medical supply company as sysadmin
>everyone around me speaks little to no English
>money is decent, hours are terrible
>I am the entire IT department
>working on systems that are older than I am
>all anyone does is tell me that they broke something, boss is too cheap to buy anything new
>can't wait to leave
>22 work for At&t corporate
>everyone in their 30s/40s
>company has shifted from customer service to sales sales sales
>money is good
>constantly have job threatened to meet sales quota
>boss doesn't understand what school is so get scheduled for shifts during class periods
>can't wait to finish school and do something else
>>56556480
no kidding, my parents keep telling me finding a job is hard, but man working in software of any kind in telecommunications is cancer.

So, /g/. What's a good MP3 player that's small, and has a large storage capacity? I'm a skateboarder, and I like skating while listening to music. But doing so with a giant phone in my pocket gets annoying.
I was looking on Amazon, and I've found a few Chinese iPod knockoffs that claim to be 64gb, at only 35 USD or so, but I'm not so sure about those.
iPod Classics seem like a good option, however, they cost 500 dollars (What the fuck???) and you have to use iTunes. Which to me, is pretty close to being a deal breaker.
Does /g/ know of any high storage capacity, cheap MP3 players that preferably are small in size? It doesn't need to do anything fancy. Just allow me to transfer music from my PC to it, and play the music.
Just get an old phone with an SD card. No iTunes required, and you can directly download your shit from the internet without even needing a pc
>>56554876
If you actually buy an iPod classic, you could put rockbox on it. You don't even have to do that, rhythm box and other Linux based music players can load music on to it and sync with it easily.

It appears amazon.co.jp now ships some keyboards internationally - referring to Filco, most Topre and HHKB in JP layouts here.
>>56554852
I don't think that one is mechanical but they definitely make ones that are
>>56554852
and another.
They're several models for like 20 bucks, which isn't that bad for an old alps keyboard. Also in some models you can switch them to qwerty with a lever on the back
Would you have been his friend?
is /g/ like an autism support group now or what?

I would have had loads of gay sex with him and asked him to pay for my transition so I could be his waifu.
I would also not let them fuck up his vision of apple after his death.
>>56554832
Maybe, but after his death I would call him a faggot to the press for founding Apple
Thoughts on ubuntu MATE for old laptops?
