this makes so much sense but at the same time... why?
this isn't the reason. jesus, /g/ is incredibly fucking stupid.
removing the headphone jack means apple can enforce DRM on all media.

So why would they include an adapter in every box?

Can a GTX 1060 drive three monitors at 1080p? This is with only one monitor gaming at high settings, with browsers or whatever on the other two.
>>56557321

can do just that. Netflix + FO4 or Arma III max settings and shitposting on third.
i'm sure the 1060 can do it if my baby 960 can do it...note:: @1080p
>>56557321
Yes, absolutely.
I've ran 3x 1080p monitors on a GTX 460, and GTX 760, currently have a 980 TI

What's the better option here for the long-term?

>buying a 2tb HDD and plugging it into the raspberry pi to do the same thing
>>56557314
why dont you just use 3rd party add-ons via Kodi, anon?
>>56557338
Because I'm a data hoarder and I like to keep my anime on my hard drive. This also includes books and manga.

alright im probably just gonna be made fun off but im trying to install arch and im getting this menu which doesnt give me any boot option (and doesnt even look like the screen in the tutorial im following). i tried just going with the first option and just follow the tutorial but the next step was to ping a website (google) to make sure i have an internet connection and when i do that i get the error "name or service not know". what the fuck am i doing wrong here?
also this is what the tutorial's screen looks like
Instal antegros onatall ubuntu or inatalll wondows again you are jumping in at the deep end without knowing how to doggy paddle

Any anons shitpostin with this or even older portables?
I used to post with that abomination back in 2013
Shit has a terrible keyboard. And it fails in pic heavy threads. 512mb ram isn't good for surfing on 4chin.

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].
If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

What would you suggest then?
hey, i got an old IBM thinkpad 600x. My neighbor gave it to me. I need to know how to get into it but keep the contents. in other words how do i figure out the password?
Use a Hirens Boot disc (google it) and use the offline password changer
>>56557050
crack it which is easy to do if you use the google and the password is weak
>>56557050
Give it back
Fellow /g/ bro running a Thinkpad T430.
I'm tempted to install gentoo but I'm very hesitate because I keep hearing rumors that if you fuck up the installation it could trash your cpu, hard drive, or whatnot. Is this true?
>>56557009
If you have to ask a dumb question like that Gentoo isn't for you.
>>56557009
Who the fuck told you this bullshit? This is not true at all. Just make sure you unplug your Ethernet cable every once and then, the data transfer rate is too high and it might burn the cables or even your network card.
Also, don't call yourself a bro.

Doesn't surprise much, companies rely on even older software.

When was the last time you fucked up your computer, /g/?
>>56556786
I bent some keyboard connectors on my thinkpad, making it type all weird. I was about to buy a new one, since it was the laptop itself fucking up, but I was able to just bend them back into place.
>>56556786
I fucked my laptop because I used it 12 hours a day for four years. Gradually, everything broke until it was unusable
Don't use laptops as your main PC
>>56556786
I fucked up a 3 core processor for some gateway PC once. That was many, many years ago.
