Welcome to /fglt/ - Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

No. Nothing Ubuntu/Debian related is worth using.

Fair enough. Is there anything in the same category - easy to install, easy to use, just werks, made for retards, etc. - that *is* worth using?

I have heard people saying it's bad to use CCleaner, especially the registry cleaning.

Is it really, though? Does it even help at all, or is it just placebo?

Your best bet when it comes to utilities for Windows is to use the native solutions. The OS is closed source, so you run more of a risk than normal when it comes to modifying the system by using turd party solutions.

Just google what you want to do and find a way to do it using the tools provided by Microsoft®™.

Why do you need to ask /g/ for something like this.

Just install what you like, everyone knows how bad windows 10 is and they are just going to keep screaming at you to install it on windows 7.

My best bet it that if you just need office just install a linux distro and install libreoffice it works just as fine.

But if not make up your fucking mind, you don't need to ask for people approval.

Hey Guys,

My wife has amassed a huge iTunes library that forces her to keep buying Mac products (iPad, iphone, etc) or risk losing access to her library outside of a PC.

Is there any software out there that can let me convert her library to MP4 or some other DRM free format so she can finally join the Android phone users?

I had a dongle for a couple of months, used all my initial data of 5gb since then, topped up just a few days ago with 8gb.
Now it seems that every time I plug it in, I lose about 100mb instantly for some reason. I didn't download anything, I didn't watch any vidoes, I haven't even browsed this site the whole time.
I am on wifi now, can someone please explain to me why did I lose 2.1gb in just a few days while 5gb lasted me 2 months. Is it just a fucking scam from the providers? Why is my data disappearing so fast, I didn't have any program open earlier before plugging it in, and I still lost data for no reason.

Use Wireshark to monitor your network and see what is using up your data, probably some bitcoin miner or something

Thanks hopefully it shows what uses the data so much.
Is there the chance that it was just updates in the backround?

Hey guys, just had a weird question. Is is possible to use coated steel wire in place of copper magnetic wire for coil windings in an altenator. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not possible seeing how it's ferro magnetic. Just a thought I had.

Hey folks, I have a question, as I don't know much about connections and cabling.

This motherboard uses Realtek ALC1150 codec hd audio. This is all fine, but if I connect this motherboard USB to a pair of USB speakers, does that audio codec transfer over USB? Or do I need to come out of the audio jack and just go through the RCA inputs?

Thanks /g/.

Btw, mobo is a z170mx.
>>
Yes usb speakers will work.
>>
>>56598341

usb speakers have their own codec.

your operating system should recognize the audio device automatically - if not, google how to change standard audio devices on your operating systems.

also, is that a USB Type C connector on a mainboard together with a PS/2 connector?

WELCOME TO THE PROGRAMMING CHALLENGE THREAD. TODAY YOU WILL CREATE A FUNCTION OR PROGRAM THAT GENERATES A CHRISTMAS TREE WITH THE USER GIVEN LENGTH.

IF YOU DON'T COMPLY, THIS BIRD WILL STAB YOU

AS ALWAYS, HERE IS THE EXAMPLE.

/*
* christmas.cpp
* Created on: Sep 14, 2016
*/

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <sstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <cstdlib>

using namespace std;

char getRandomChar(){
int random = rand();
if((double)random/RAND_MAX > 0.75) return '@';
if((double)random/RAND_MAX > 0.5) return '*';
if((double)random/RAND_MAX > 0.25) return '#';
return '%';
}

int printtree(const int length) {
int width = 1;
int bottom = 0.1 * length;
char tree = '#';
for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) {
string temp = "";
if (width < 2) {
cout << right << setw(length + 1) << tree << endl;
} else {
for (int j = 0; j < width - 1; j++)
temp += getRandomChar();
cout << right << setw(length) << temp;
cout << tree;
cout << left << setw(length) << temp;
cout << endl;
}
width++;
}
if(bottom < 1){
cout << right << setw(length + 1) << tree << endl;
}
for (int i = 0; i < bottom; i++) {
string temp = "";
for (int j = 0; j < bottom - 1; j++)
temp += getRandomChar();
cout << right << setw(length) << temp;
cout << tree;
cout << left << setw(length) << temp;
cout << endl;
}
}

int str2int(const string &str) {
stringstream ss(str);
int num;
if ((ss >> num).fail()) {
return 10;
}
return num;
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
int length;
if (argc > 1) {
length = str2int(argv[1]);
} else {
length = 10;
}
srand(10983);

So I'd like some help deciding on a new TV.

http://www.joesav.com/Samsung-Series-65-Class-SUHD-Smart-LED-TV-UN65-p/un65ks8000fxza.htm

VS.

There both similar in price. Ones bigger then the other but I think what my decision comes down to is how is OLED vs SUHD?

>OLED vs SUHD

SUHD is just Samsung's memeword for HDR/10bit. Both TVs have it.

Personally I'd go for the OLED, even though it's way smaller. OLED colors/blacks are godlike.
