UMPCs need to make a comeback. Having a full Windows computer in the palm of my hand was the coolest thing ever and no amount of tablets can fill the void they left when they disappeared

http://www.wsj.com/articles/yahoo-says-information-on-at-least-500-million-user-accounts-is-stolen-1474569637

https://archive.is/9P2El

> Yahoo Inc. on Thursday disclosed a massive security breach by a “state-sponsored actor” affecting at least 500 million users, the latest hurdle for the beaten-down internet company as it works through the sale of its core business.

>Yahoo said a copy of certain user account information—including names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers—was stolen from the company’s network in late 2014 by what it believes is a state-sponsored actor.

Idk what's worse, that this company got hacked or that they didn't know for almost 2 years. Mayer should have spent that $1bil on better security rather than buying tumblr.

Today, the chink fairy bestowed upon me a smartphone tripod.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/octotripod/32349005878.html

It seems pretty good. It stands firmly on a flat surface, and can just about hold my phone on the edge of a table.

Thinking about taking timelapse shots outside my window; what could possibly go wrong?

Is it true that taking notes by hand is more effective than typing? What if I were to use a stylus instead of pen and paper. That sounds like the best of both worlds.

Nope, typing notes out is always better because you can write them out very fast and correct them without whiteout. Hell even taking notes on a touchscreen keyboard is faster than writing them (see pic related). By writing them you slow down to a crawling ~20 WPM and have to correct mistakes by either scribbling them out or having to paint them over with whiteout.
>>
>>56730585
the pen is mightier than the keyboard because your writing speed is limited, you are forced to interpret so you can compact the ideas into fewer words. there are papers about it around the nets if you want to know more.

Actively engaging with the material so you can condense it to the core concepts will always be better for understanding and recall than blindly taking dictation
