I know Windows update adoption is generally slower, but I've barely seen anyone with Windows 7 in the last 6 months or so (among Windows users).
Where are those 50%?

Today (yes I know that immediately makes it sound like a reddit post) I used open source software to fill in a .DOCX job application form from start to finish
Ubuntu 16.04 is my OS
I used Libreoffice to edit it, GIMP to create a small image, Simple Scan to scan some bio documents, Firefox to email it (through gmail because I can't be fucked with private email servers and it's bad practice anyway), and mpv to watch a video to distract myself when I started getting bored of it.
There is no longer any excuse to not use Linux, everyone should switch over from Winshit or OSX. If you're one of those faggots who uses Autocad or other Windows-only software then you should use whatever works as you have a legit excuse.

I'm lazy to fix those things up therefore I just use Windows XP Shitpost Pack 3.

Let me shed some light on this shit. A lot of it has to do with the stagnation of the CPU market. That is the best sandy bridge business laptop. If you're willing to sacrifice some portability you can get the equivalent of a $500 Dell for $140ish.
I just bought a Dell Inspirion 13 5000 series 2 in 1. It's thin, light, and has a 1080p display. I love the fucking thing. Here is the issue. It feels flimsy, and has a i3 6100u. The chip is totally sufficient, and literally sips power. However the i5 2520m that you find in most t420s performs almost identically.
The t420 sits in a sweet spot for value. They're build out of gameboy/nokia plastic, they are EXTREMELY serviceable and expandable, they are abundant and thus cheap, and perform almost identically to the modern entry level chip the i3 6100u.
It's the pinnacle of value for your money.

wtf how does this recursion work?
>>56743266
Actually that picture is pretty self-explanatory, just imagine each rectangle as a function, or read about recursion anywhere on the internet you lazy dumb fuck.
>>56743266
it depends how it's nested but the concept is fundamentally identical to all recursion anon
recursion works because of stack frames and base cases
Seriously, if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. Using encryption apps like Signal increase your bandwidth usage and use up your data caps even faster.
If you're not doing illegal things, the government won't look at you. Don't you trust the government?
If I have nothing to hide, why is someone monitoring my nothing?

Ever heard of MITM attacks? Only an absolute idiot would think that encrypted messaging's only purpose is avoiding government surveillace.
>Don't you trust the government?
Even if you trust the current one, there's nothing stopping the next one from using the pile of surveillance data that they are sitting on to actively seek and silence the ones that are against them.

I actually like unity and would love to use Ubuntu on a touch screen laptop/pc. I don't think it's bloated at all since Ubuntu on boot uses half as much ram as windows 10 does.
>>56742080
See, the issue is that RAM conservation is only useful when carrying out mission critical task, and Linux doesn't support the software compatibility required for mission critical task.
>>56742080
Being less bloated than windows does not mean it's not.
to see how much windows uses you have to disable paging first
unity is not that bad but gnome is faster and nicer to work in
the scrollbars on both are terrible

How does one authenticate a user by HWID in a way that's not crackable in 5 minutes?
The way I'm doing it right now is making a libcurl http request to a php script on my server with the useragent equal to the encrypted HWID. The script then checks if that HWID is valid and if it is, gives a response of a pseudorandom base64 number that returns true when passed through a function in the program.
Is this even safe?
Help.

SaaS is cancer. How did we let this happen?
You might say "hurr just don't use discord" but this is becoming the norm nowadays.
10 years from now there might not always be a self-hosted alternative to an application you need or want to use.
Joining the botnet is still quite optional but I don't think it will stay that way for long.

That said, ever since as I was forced into iOS 7 it lost a lot of its charm. There was something absolutely compelling about iOS 6 on this thing that Apple's Holo Light ripoff could never replicate.
