dear /mkg/, thank you and goodbye.
I switched to cherry mx blue switch keyboard last year after using Dell one for ages. it was nice but I still couldn't type fast and my fingers/thumbs were hurting from hitting the sides of the keys.. which happened occasionally. then I upgraded to cherry mx red switches and I liked those a lot more. but I still hated the height of keys and occasional pain in my fingers.
I went to a recent local autist user group aka Linux Users Group and one guy there brought his computer to the meet to show his dual GPU setup and other things with Arch. anyway, he had this apple keyboard and when I asked him why he used it, he said it was the easiest to type on. I tried it and liked it a lot.
I went on Craigslist, looked at used keyboard and one guy was selling a brand apple USB keyboard for $15... because key #9 on numpad was missing. I picked it up and have been using it since. It's fucking GOAT.
oh, and I went to apple store and they fixed it within 2 min. they just popped a new 9 key on it.
tl;dr: mechanical keyboards are not GOAT at all. if you want something that doesn't fuck your hands, get a high quality chicklet keyboard.. apple makes the best ones.
ps: anyone wanna buy a used pok3r keyboard?
hello here is my keyboard

internet is available but routers are forbidden
she and her roomate Darius cant use wiifi on their smartphones, and notebooks.
Need to use switch and connect with cable like its 20th century or something
if she were to use a router, configured not to transmit SSID, would she be safe?
Or is there some other way?

She would be safer, but not entirely safe. If the university employs a WIDS then they could theoretically find them, but it would be difficult. Make sure to hide it every time the room is gonna be inspected

What resources would one use to accomplish this?
How would one secure an interview without a degree?
Yes, it's possible.
Just apply on their website.
>>56889057
Wouldn't they look at my lack of degree and just toss it in the trash?
FYI I do have a degree, but not in CS or programming.
Companies need smart people, not degrees. Just be prepared to prove how smart you are at the whiteboard.
Fuchsia is going to kill Linux and I am going to laugh so fucking hard when it happens.
Google is going to phase out the Linux kernel in all of its products, and that's pretty much 100% of the consumer Linux market. Next they will do servers, so RedHat and Canonical will die.
It's time for a return to true open source under truly permissive licenses.

No. You are retarded.
Is this the most disgusting step down in tech history? A personal donation of $1000 ending a career in a company that he founded?
To build so much and have it all fall so little is depressing.
A personal political donation, which according to the supreme court counts as free speech.
Unless that mother fucker explains to me right now why he created a pants on head retarded language like javascript he deserves everything that comes to him

I said post to login, not post to desktop. Unless the desktop and the login manager are integrated (like GDM), the desktop won't have any effect on that wait time. However the buttload of services both of the distros you mentioned enable by default have a great deal of effect and are all notorious for being painfully slow to load. Maybe next time you'll know the answer.
>>56883758
Same, if you have services behind, and libraries as dependencies, they must be loaded BEFORE login.
1) Install Arch
2) Install a DE
3) Install a minimal LM
There, post to fuckoff in 1 seconds
>>56883783
I'm not sure if Arch satisfies the "complete" clause of the requirements, and I'll laugh if you think it satisfies the "competent".

Debian makes for a lean mean computing machine, if you can deal with day old buns.
I still don't get why anyone should care about surveillance if they aren't doing anything wrong.
>>56882430
you're probably retarded, it doesn't take much brainpower to imagine why people might be irked about constant obtrusive surveillance
What about a fucking business secret? Any research you don't have stolen from you? Information about where you want to invest in?
There's almost infinitely things you can keep secret without doing anything wrong.
Are you a fucking idiot or what?

Kill yourself. This is not a meme. I'm actually advocating that you commit suicide. Kill yourself.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

To anybody who has an eGPU, how does it work out for you.
I'm slowly loving my t420, and thinking of getting an eGPU, docking station and mSATA, but would like some input first.
>>56859096
What's an egpu and how does it differ/stick out from standard laptop gpu's?
>>56859226
It literally sticks out.
It's an adapter that allows you to use a GPU on a thinkpad.
