reminder that this beauty is ruined because devs were constantly bitching about "omg how can we design programs for multicore platform it's nightmare ;_;"
that's why you need a proper CS education.
and the funny part is, as developers got more knowledgeable about multithreaded design patterns, cell cpu shone much more over the years. even in 2012, cell was relevant and able to show more and more. Last of Us was one example, which is released in 2013. but unfortunately, it was too late to come up with ideas. cell was abandoned, sdk was abandoned, companies were preparing to move on with the next gen consoles and PC hardware.
even MIT was giving courses on multicore programming using PS3: https://groups.csail.mit.edu/cag/ps3/lectures.shtml
and the student projects are interesting: https://groups.csail.mit.edu/cag/ps3/projects/blue-steel/070307-GDC-blue-steel.pdf
STOP HIRING LAZY AND UNINTELLIGENT PAJEETS

also CELL was infinitely extendable due to its nature. you had to stage your own pipeline to distribute tasks into the SPU cores so you were not limited by hardware pipelining that might require special optimizations for specific situations.

wow buddy that shit didn´t make proper use of the cell cpu in any way and that shit was first party
but yeah it had potential

We all probably know what Hentai@Home is.
Why can't we do that with 4chan?
In other words, why don't you decentralize image and post hosting?
To be more specific and pedantic, decentralized is defined here as using a centralized server (bootstrap node), aka 4chan.org, to connect clients and hosts to one another which archive posts and images.
I say client and host, because this is technically not peer 2 peer (it's more like DNS routing, or client to shitloads of hosts)
Threads and their constituent elements will be securely hashed and verified by the central server. The client will receive the expected hash, content length, and host IP from the central server. The client will then request the content from the host and verify its hash before rendering it to the screen.
Security is maintained through the central server. The central server still takes the exact same (more or less) number of requests, it just requires FAR less bandwidth to operate, because that responsibility pushed onto willing hosts. 4chan will maintain ``ownership" and responsibility to moderate its content this way, because it keeps a local copy of the database to compare hashes to.
The hosts are essentially merely mirrors
just use IPFS for static content
>>56946943
Shit I forgot about that
>>56946920
the problem is bandwidth not storage
IPFS works but IPFS images cant be deleted. this may be a problem but not the problem. How does one embed the image on your browser, etc...
4chan could allow users, volunteers to host an IPFS node along with a script/app/etc to fetch an image from ipfs and return it to the client device.
you could point the hordes of volunteer nodes under a different domain and load balance from the dns itself.

Should I buy this? I hope it's going to hold my weight (~60kg).
How do I get 1 cent stuff?
Alright friends.
I turn to you all as a last resort before I try selling the damn thing.
I bought a server rack. Used, without the front door hinge, but all else is in working order.
It is an "industrial size", and I cannot fit it through my front door.
It has 'rackable' brand units, all 10+ of them, and 2 Catalyst 4000s. I also have an apple server, but it's so large it doesn't even fit with the others.
I have removed all hardware; it is just a empty rack now.
My questions, from top priority down.
How can I get this into my apartment?
How can I supply it with power?
How can I keep it at a relatively cool temp, in a normal household threshold?
I'm perfectly able to sustain it's maintain costs I believe, but unfortunately I'm so inexperienced I don't even know what to google.
Thank you. I will be posting pictures of everything, and anything upon request.
Here is a picture of the internals of a rackable, while I get the others ready.
Disregard the fact I have no space in my room, I will be putting the complete rack into the living room, so I do have space.
Here's The others, stacked on my mini fridge.
The other are stashed in the closet.
Will I die from a dirt cheap soldering station?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeILL08T08w
I'll leave this one to Big Clive.
It would be extremely painful.
Are you actually looking to buy a soldering iron though or is this just a meta thread.
The cheapest stuff is not only a pain in the ass to use but also often dangerous.
Prob, but from electrocution

>i don't use an anti-virus i use common sense 2016 :^)
literally why wouldn't you use an anti-virus? there's no downside to using one. even the most poorfag computer on the market now can run anti-virus with no performance hit
you are incorrect about that
that line of thinking only makes sense on *nix or bsd, there's way too many exploits and attack vectors on win platforms to rely on "muh common sense"
>>56916197
Because I care about security.
Antiviruses are "botnet".
