Hello. This is just a friendly reminder to FUCK SEAGATE AND ALL THEIR FUCKIN' SHIT
>me
>at least ten years ago, using a prebuilt pc.
>HDD error.
>it was seagate.
>lost almost everything. (I had things on the laptop)
some years later
>laptop HDD start making noises (this was on 2013)
>"It will be better to get an external HD and make regular backups so I don't lose it all again"
>get a Seagate 1Tb disk because I think maybe the last time was a fortuity.
>yesterday it loses format and I lost every thing
>1 tb of books, photos, music
>EVERY
>FUCKIN
>THING
RRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I'll be trying to fix it. Recuva did nothing and HDD regenerator didn't find any errors. the data must be there somewhere but I can't reach it.
if any of you have some suggestion I'll be glad to hear them
goto the website and send it in for recovery you fucking autist. Its a mechanical device prone to a bunch of issues. If it was important you would have that shit backed up.
>>56979017
>implying is a mechanical issue
>" If it was important you would have that shit backed up."
it was my backup disk
>you fucking autist
I see

Sounds like the driver board went bad.
Usually its the read write head.
driver board just screws on, you can buy a new one but you have to match up numbers and Im not typing that all out.
The data should still be on the platters unless the firmware fucked up and decided to fill it full of 0's.. which is retarded but then again we are talking about a seagate drive.
Is it Amarok, Clementine, Foobnix, Audacious, Rythmbox or DeaDBeeF?
foobar2000 in wine
youtube
DeaDBeeF because it's so similar to foobar2k.
>2016

Make your own?
>>56978737

What do you need from a browser?
I did it guys. No regrets. We pixel soon!
What a faggot
Regrets will come later.

Future is fucking now!
My vision will soon be augmented.
o shit, i forgot that /g/ does not care about technology
>not being actually there :^)
Why didnt you go then?
>>56978915
The word "popup" in that URL combined with a nondescript picture is more than enough to drive people away.
Anyways, vision augmentation has been here for decades. UV or near IR vision are known from WWII and with some generous interpretation most humans can do thermal vision.
So get to the point and people will come.
Show me a better keyboard.
Literally any keyboard with more key travel and normal sized arrow keys.

Is that some Saratoga?
Typistes tell me that's the best-ever keyboard.

I need something that will check a directory in linux and monitor the content for changes (added/deleted/modified files)
Before I write something, I wanted to see if there was a script either in BASH/Python/Perl that could do this. Haven't seen much out there, surely people have a need for this?
Looking for something that could run natively, I'm aware that inotify-tools exists, but it needs installing.
aide and tripwire are the standard, but they're not written in an interpreted language
>>56978544
Thanks for the contribution. Took a look at those too, but they also need installing.
What about btrfs and its snapshots?
Dear /g/.
I know this was probably mentioned several times already, but I need to know.
Memes aside, how "safe as Windows can be" is Windows 10 in Edu/Enterprise version?
"Safe as Windows can be" since I expect same level as Windows 7. I know that by using group policies editor, I can disable web searching, suggested sites, language correction and keystrokes collection, Cortana (she doesnt come in my language version anyway) or reduce that infamous telemetry to security level aka pinging about my PC existing, as mentioned in, for example, ( https://technet.microsoft.com/itpro/windows/manage/manage-connections-from-windows-operating-system-components-to-microsoft-services ). "As Windows" since you would probably suggest installing some Linux distro, but I cant do that, too many of my programs require that and I cant make this fancy move with GPU and VM. Or mentioning possible NSA backdoors.
"Memes aside" since I constantly run into various different memes, ranging from "it will update itself no matter the settings" to "it will scan all contents of all drives all the time".
I must add that I was testing Wind 10, albeit in "Pro" version, that came preinstalled on my PC at work, since few months - I didnt ran into many of problems people reported so far, like slow searching or autoupdates, since I configured proper GPs to prevent that.
I still dont know about many things, like if Photo DNA is restricted to OneDrive (which I never used anyway) or for entire system.
Or perhaps the answer is impossible to find, forever flooded by memes from both sides of "conflict"?
>>56978514
Depends on your threat model.
If your threat model doesn't view MS as an enemy then it's much more secure than Win7.
If your threat model views MS as an enemy then you will basically be taking it in the ass if you install it.
>>56978514
So let me get this straight, you worry about Big Brother in United States of A spying on you but you remain completely oblivious to your ISP who speaks the same language as you monitoring all your traffic?
Are you stupid?
>>56978514
>how "safe as Windows can be" is Windows 10 in Edu/Enterprise version?

>it will scan all contents of all drives all the time
WTF is wrong with my sjwfox or is this ram usage normal?
How do i get off this train? Wiki still favors ff and i have been using/moving my profile since 2009 but this is getting out of hand now.
>osx
Lmao
Mine with 6 tabs open.
Its just firefox in general. Its so shit at memory/cpu management.
I've been looking for replacement but chromium-based browsers are lacking in useful addons or features that I regularly use.
>no bookmark aliasing
>no proper access to user program (like mpv/youtube-dl access from browser)
>security/privacy concerns
in exchange for these, I'd get something like
>fast browsing
I don't like how the options are so limited.
>WINE
>Wine Is Not an Emulator
But what does Wine mean?
Windows In *Nix Environment :^)
>GNU
>GNU's not Unix
It's a fucking recursive acronym don't be retarded
>>56978437
>Wine Is Not an Emulator
WINE Is Not an Emulator.
Anyone else had this problem before with their phone? do you just tough it out until your next upgrade?
no because I'm not careless with my tech
It depends on the severity, some screens cut your fingers if broken.
If not just man it up and use it or replace it yourself
>>56978438
>>56978422
fpbp
also no because I know that there's a chance I'll drop my phone a couple of times over a few years, and a chance that any of those drops could render it unusable, so I bought a case for it
Which password manager does /g/ use? Lastpass? Keepass? Dashlane?
I'm currently using LastPass but just went through the process of changing all my passwords, deleting old websites, etc. as I am thinking about changing to KeePass.
Great convo
Keepass user here.
Proud KeePass user here.
I'm on somebody elses wifi... can I dos someone without getting tracked?
Ms-dos or freedos?
This is now a Disk Operating System thread.
I don't even have to be clairvoyant to know that you have at least one /v/ tab open.

Im at a wedding. Everybodys eating now.
Hello /g/oys.
What chair do you recommend for a very tight space, on carpet and on a budget?
Thank you
Get a simple chair that isn't assembled from a bunch of metal parts, pneumatics, etc. So avoid the chair pictured. Each and every one of them will become an annoying piece of mongy shit within six months, with broken pneumatics, loose screws, warped plastic, 45-degree-angle backs, etc.
>>56978146
Ive been using mine for 6 years now though
>>56978164
Then you've pulled off a miracle, bro.
