Is it possible to get a decent sounding turntable with a preamp for under £100 or should I give up hope and wait until I'm not on a student budget?

>inb4 you'll have to pay for records anyway
Not at my uni's music library

A good preamp alone will set you back at least ~£200… I got mine from an older friend who worked at an audio dealer. Not sure about if you shopped used.

£100 is TIGHT though desu. If you want nice audio, join a good private music tracker like What.CD or Pedro's and download autist Vinyl/CD rips (I prefer CDs but some people claim 96kHz vinyl is better… you decide)

Don't listen to /ptg/, they are a bunch of retards for the most part.

http://whatinterviewprep.com -- it's quite easy and well worth it if you're into music.

>Current CPU: Intel Pentium D 820
>Current video card: AMD Radeon HD 5450 1024MB
Pretty low end. And I'm short on money so I can only upgrade one at the moment.
Before upgrading either I'll add more DDR2 RAM to have x64 Windows work normally.
>what u gon need PC for?
My purpose is to draw with a tablet completely smoothly in Photoshop - drawing a line is really slow and choppy at the moment.
I'm not sure which component is the hindering smoothness in PS right now - CPU, video card, RAM or all three - so I dunno whether getting the CPU or the video card first would be better.

Open a resource monitoring tool and draw a line, is your GPU being used or CPU?

That's your bottleneck
>>
it's more likely to be your CPU. Pentium D can be upgraded to Core2Duo or even Core2Quad in some boards. Either of which will be a huge upgrade and really cheap.

Get 8GB of RAM if photoshop is a priority. DDR2 peaks at 800mhz so try for that.

The GPU is unlikely to be limiting you. 1GB vRAM isn't great but it's probably going to do.

Hey all, I am an old guy. I was born into a DOS household, been using Windows almost exclusively since 3.1 besides a short stint a red hat linux with xwindows partition when I was 16 or 17 back in the 90's

Anyways, I'm no computer pro but I'm pretty savvy. I am concerned with the disgusting tablet Windows 8/10 os, and I finally want off this ride. My laptop is getting a bit behind the times and I'd like to buy a new laptop but they all have win 10 and I can't do it

I literally use my computer for shitposting, browsing the internet and downloading music/movies. Nothing fancy, not much of a gamer

My question for you guys is

Ubuntu

or Mint

I've done a little bit of reading and I'm sure either would work fine, but am interested in hearing the pros and cons from someone who has a better grasp of Linux than me

again, I wanna reiterate I'm not a computer pro, just a nerd who feels like the new Windows OS'es are tablet-y and obnoxious and would like to give Linux a shot

I'd recommend Ubuntu or one of the flavours, such as Xubuntu to get you going. Most of the privacy/technopolitical concerns regarding Ubuntu relate to things which as far as I understand are limited to mainline Ubuntu.

If all you want is to do end-user things, any *buntu will keep you comfortable when you need, and let you tinker when you don't. Only thing holding you back is to get started. If you want to worry about distros a lot, I'd recommend looking into partitioning your home separately or whatever it is distro-hoppers do.

Hey guys, last time I reinstalled win7 i formatted hard drive and lost completely everything , even my network and sound drivers, is there any software for overcoming this?

Arch Linux

Don't choose the option to reformat your hard drive when installing operating system.
>>
>>57071706
but whats the point of it then? reinstalling without reformatting will leave corrupt files on HDD

There's tons of retro-style keyboards, so why haven't there been any cool retro-style computer cases?

Leaving appearance aside, they're just worse. More noise and more heat with retro-cases, a retro-keyboard can be just as good as a new mech keyboard.

Couldn't they make a retro looking case with modern technology?

Windows is so bloated that it could never run effciently on low level hardware
>>
>>57071642
In my opinion, android is much more bloated than Windows10 for WP. Have you ever owned a WP? I used to have the old Nokia Lumia and it ran much smoother than the Nexus 4 I had previously.
>>
>>57071642
Nigga actually Windows was the best running on low level hardware.

Can someone explain me the reasons behind having TWO menus? Isn't it redundant if you can fit everything into only one, allowing more screen space for programs etc?

Another thing I don't get is why would you want your menu at the TOP, making it more difficult to close/maximise/minimise windows. I don't get it.

When is audio/video production on Linux going to get good enough so that I can ditch windows?
Where is the Reason, Ableton, Sony Vegas etc for Linux?

Also when will that cunt Poettering stop fucking things up. Latest version of pulseaudio on mint keeps misbehaving with one of my audio interrfaces and requiring reboot. Why is this man allowed to replace init?

The version of Acid Pro I am using is from 2002.

It STILL does not work in wine.
>>
Why not just get macOS?
You can run your audio and video software natively on a Unix system, and it also has core audio which makes things a lot easier when it comes to using audio hardware with your system.
>>
>>57071599
Get a mac, only a poorfag uses Windows for media production anyways.

I recently updated to Sierra and now when I do expose I no longer see a preview of my different desktops, just the names. It will show them if I hover over them but this is annoying. How do I get it back to show the thumbnail of my desktops contents by default at the top?

There was a hack to do it in El Capitan (forceFullDesktopBar) however it will not work in Sierra.

You can use BetterTouchTool to simulate it, it's a decent alternative.
>>
Ya, that seems to be what I'm finding as well. I was having trouble finding info on google because I wasn't aware they were called "spaces." Once I got that I was able to find more information. I've made a huge mistake upgrading :(
>>
>>57071514
For what it's worth, I used to use forceFullDesktopBar in El Capitan and so did not want to upgrade to Sierra.

It wasn't a big deal. I almost prefer it this way, even. It's less cluttered.

If it still bothers you too much, use TotalSpaces

How do you deal with too many cards in your wallet /g/?

>Student card
>2x Debit card
>1x Credit card
>gym card
>3 different clubcards for discounts

That's the shit I need to carry with me. And that's not even all I have. I also have 2nd wallet with the rest of my cards that I don't carry with me every day.

Make a hole in them (obviously not where the chip, magnetic stripe or any data such as your card number is) and put in a lanyard.

Drivers license.
Debit card.
Health card.
Cash.

That's all I carry.

Why? Just give the cashier the phone number.
