Share Pajeet WTFs you encountered here. Pic unrelated.

List<String> foo;
String bar = foo.toString().replace("\\[|\\]", "").replace(", ", " ");

Storing two integers in a float (instead of using a struct), one number above the decimal point and one number below it. And then using sepples string functions to get the two values out rather than regular arithmetic.

The worst part was that this was an embedded programmer. Studying CE and EE obviously doesn't teach you how to program.

how come Debian is so popular on /g/ all of of sudden? what happened to arch's popularity and why is Debian the cool distro all of the sudden?

I don't know. To me Debian is dead since NSA/systemd.

I'd suggest Devuan atm.
>>
Let's see:

>one of the oldest distros around
>one of maybe 3 that actually matter on production servers
>base of more forks than you can count
>no commercial entity behind it pushing its agenda
>huge package repository
>no non-free cancer in official repos
>credits GNU in its name
>supports more architectures than any other distro (inb4 muh Gentoo supports everything with a C compiler: Debian actually builds and tests binaries for like 12 or so architectures)
>stable like a motherfucker
>large non-noob, but also non-autistic community

Truly a patrician's choice.

>Devuan
At least suggest a distro that gets updated like antiX, or MX.

I've been on 4chan since 2007, and 4 years ago I was browsing /g/ for the first time so I would like to ask something.

Now I'm considering a career on IT. What are my chances?
>29 years old, NEET since forever
>Finished highschool, never went to university

It's too late to became an computer engineer or researcher? How do I achieve it? If it's needed to go to Uni, I wouldn't be mocked by the young people around me?

I don't care if it's difficult if I can achieve it, because I want to be a professional the right way, not to be a shitty worker.

Thanks.

Took a huge risk and went back to school at 30, taking a 2 year program. Now I am enjoying a fresh new career with a cushy salary.

Its never too late. Dont listen to others. Just work hard and have drive and it will pay off.

How to into embedded systems programming?

I've googled around and been following a tutorial on playing around with an rpi

I was just wondering if there are other good ways to learn

Okay, let me help you, I've been in the embedded market for 4 years now, and a couple more before as a hobbyist.
First, are you looking into this as a hobbyist or wanting to make this your profession
>>
>>62130268
initially as a hobbyist.

soon starting a position as a fullstack .net dev in a firmware company and I was thinking of maybe working my way into firmware dev eventually
>>
>>62130282
Well that's good approach, the reason why I asked this is because the focus areas for hobbyist and professionals are often very different.
As a hobbyist, I would like to recommend you to 8 bit microcontrollers like the very versatile AVR and PIC families. Maybe even older 80xx, but since they're mostly CISC based, but much simpler to work with. These microcontroller families have everything from 8 pin tiny micros to 40+ pin ones with all peripherals you might want built in.
They're cheap, considerably fast, and won't confuse you with more complex details
First step is, picking up a dev board, or even make one of you're familiar with soldering, I wouldn't recommend it though. Pick a popular dev board with lots of support

"This is the new 2600k"

"A lot of people will use this opportunity to upgrade"

Coffeelake would be a medicore upgrade. The single thread performance is exactly the same. 6 cores will not be very useful for a while yet.

Sandy Bridge was actually a leap forward, Coffeelake is just 2 more cores.

protip: don't buy a mechanical keyboard because you will not want to replace it that often because of the cost.

Yes. I can't hardly wait to transfer my consciousness to a digital space and gain immortality. Heck, for now I'd settle for some implants that expand memory and accelerate learning.
>>
>>62129858
>Gain immortality

Until a Poojet accidently deletes your consiousness or you pull the plug yourself due to Google injecting ads straight into your train of though.
>>
>>62129885
>implying anyone sane would transfer their consciousness to a device that is capable of connecting to the internet
Why bother? Just create an android body and use a PC like regular meatbags.

However, one area I'd see a significant problem with is: reading and writing data. Our consciousness would pretty much wreck any SSD, by constantly writing, and reading extreme amounts of data. Also there's the problem that our brains can store at least 1 petabyte of memories... yeah. Also our thought processes would be insanely slow due to technological bottlenecks and constraints.

So far everything nature come up with has almost always had been better, and more efficient than what humans have invented. Transhumanism is fun, but it'd make more sense tailoring biology to our needs rather than computers.
