Hello /g/ I need a new harddrive, wich ones should I avoid? Wich ones to consider?
Since you don't know these things, I assume that you are just a simpleton consumer.
Then why would you want a spinning drive?
>>57215107
I am a simple consumer, I want a spinning one because they are cheaper and last longer

It seems to me that Apple is just going to announce some flashy cosmetic chit at their event in a few days, as-well as do away with their usb ports.
I was thinking of buying a Macbook to replace my current laptop. Does /g/ think there's going to be some solid upgrades announced?

You guys better use professional quality video and music edition software, otherwise you have no reason to continue using such a shit OS.
Don't be scared.

I'm running Mint on my shitty netbook from 2009, but i need a windows computer for business software and SHIT (like vidya, ovvv cUrse).
I was hoping not to have to make a post here, but I'm basically lost at this point. Google has stopped being helpful.
I have an HGST drive that used to be in my Thinkpad that I started using as an external when I got a new one to use internally. This external is used to store videos mostly, since I often move between desktop and laptop to watch things.
Recently, plugged it into my computer, the light on the USB 3.0 converter comes on for a bit, then turns off. Doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. Tried another converter and multiple ports to the same effect. As far as I can tell, there's no mechanical failure. It doesn't make any noise aside from the spinning of the disk. What I do know is that using some recovery tools (EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, Data Rescue PC3) allows me to view and get things off the drive. No problem, I can pirate one of those and recover everything.
Is there any hope for the drive itself, though? If possible, I'd like to avoid buying a new drive. Bonus points if the drive is fixable without performing a recovery. Disk Management shows the drive as 100% unallocated space. Theoretically, would recovering the data and reformatting the drive resolve this?
Install Gentoo
>>57214685
Funny you mention that, I tried using Linux to see if the drive would show up there. It didn't.
>>57214675
Maybe I'm being superfluous here but did you try using it with another computah? Maybe even plugging it in directly to the sata port?

Hi all. I've browsed /g/ for about a week now. You guys seem pretty smart and there were enough Linux posts to make me give it a shot.
I installed Arch on my laptop and it took me about one hour to master this OS. I watched a youtube video to learn the lui, it's much easier than MS DOS which is what I used before Windows became the thing.
Linux with KDE (that's the de I went with) is literally as easy or even easier to use than Windows.
Linux is not hard to use, get over yourselves. It's fucking easy. You're not automatically a computer god because you use Linux.
Correct.
If you are using something like Mint or Ubuntu, you don't even have to touch the CL 99% of the times.

How is it that PCs suck so much, and yet are more expensive while doing so?
I seriously hope nobody here uses PCs at home. PCs are only for poorly run companies and government organisations.
BTW I'm back here for a bit. Ask me any questions to get my updated rational stances on all things tech.
>why PC
because games
>>57214587
you grow out of that though. seriously. pc gamers spend most their time trying to fix bugs anyway
>>57214615
yes, you are right.
I have three computers: one Windows and two Linux(Ubuntu and Tails).
The only reason I use the windows PC is when I need to play a game and lately I have been using it less and less.
Also, Windows 10 is a privacy nightmare.
