Hey /g/, I'm new to coding, could you guys please rate my code?
ha
Try to condense more into each line. Also you don't really need indentation. Oh and don't forget to make the names of the variables a little more cryptic, "tableName", for example, is too descriptive.
can't be fucked looking it up, but there's no way in hell mysql sucks hard enough to not support bind variables.
just use a real db like postgre, or a faggot non-db like mongo. no one who knows anything about databases would use mysql if they had a choice.
My AT&T/iPhone contract is up in November and I'm looking to buy my first android phone ever. Is pic related the best android phone on the market now?

Thinking of buying or making a HTPC and I stumbled across the orange pis.
Anyone here have one? Can they playback smooth 1080p h264 and h264 videos?
Can they also browse the web smoothly?
I know that SOC is super low end, but it's got hardware decoding, doesn't it?
SERIOUSLY
I miss the pre smart phone era of using digital cameras for selfies.
No, just avoid embedded computers altogether for HTPC, hardly any arm boarda have mainline support and flaky as fuck driver support, software/ driver incompatibility regressions everywhere.
Sure its fine if you don't care for autistic levels of quality, I don't and my rpi3's are great for kodi + typical fusion addons.

If I use windows 10 to virtualbox myself a Linux distro just the way I like, is there a way for me to just copy the distro directly onto my second HDD for dual boot without virtualbox?
Your you could idk install a Linux duel boot normally

Pass a physical disk through to the VM and boot from a clonezilla iso.

Let's talk about military grade encryption! Good books cryptography? Do we poor, unwashed masses really need military grade encryption. What happens if the governments deprives us of it while still allowing it to corporations?
>What happens if the governments deprives us of it
There is no way of really doing that. It's literally the same as trying to deprive people from mathematics.
>>57224032
Well, what if laws are passed that say if you use encryption for any unauthorized reasons (like encrypting your hard drive as opposed to using https when logging into your bank acount) you could be subject imprisonment?
>when the government deprives us of it
what do you think crypto is?
not like crypto is a giant computer in the midwest that operates via fairy dust, it's just maths and done right even simple cryptography can be (effectivly) unbreakable
take this for example
text = "are you safe?"
key = "358978935191389134"
crypt = "dwm)!w~#xbofB"
this is a simple encryption method called a "one time pad" if I never told you the original text or key (and used more characters for the key) it would be literally impossible to break and the key could be exchanged via arbitrarily large RSA
>>57224071
then they'd have to prove the resulting crypto isn't just random gibberish on your hard drive
So now that elitebooks are more aesthetic than thinkpads, and latitudes are more durable, is there any reason to continue promoting those shitty thinkpads anymore?
>>57223884
Probably not, unless you want a cheap laptop where the X220 or X230 are still extremely good devices.
>>57223911
There are other alternatives to the smaller thinkpads like x220 that also aren't cheap plastic for a similar price.
>>57223972
And here's the cheapest x220 I could find.
There's a $40 difference, but with the latitude you're getting
>metal chassis
>Ivy bridge instead of Sandy bridge
>more aesthetic, thinner, and lighter laptop
I guess it's just a matter of how much that $40 matters to you.
Whenever I install Arch Linux the font rendering looks like ABSOLUTE TRASH, no matter what font I choose. It's unusable.
From a clean Arch install, how do you make fonts actually look good? Tell me your secrets.
>fonts look fine on other distros (e.g. Manjaro, Debian, Mint, LMDE, Lubuntu, Xubuntu)

Install Antergos instead, it's Arch but you don't have to waste your life configuring every little thing.

A new design for solar cells that uses inexpensive, commonly available materials, including tin and other abundant elements, could rival and even outperform conventional cells made of silicon.
The resulting new type of solar cell, which replaces silicon with a crystal called perovskite, converts sunlight to electricity at efficiencies similar to current technology but at much lower cost, said researchers from Stanford University in the United States and Oxford University in Britain.
Perovskite is a photovoltaic crystalline material that is thinner, more flexible and easier to manufacture than silicon crystals. The new device consists of two perovskite solar cells stacked in tandem. Each cell is printed on glass.
"Perovskite semiconductors have shown great promise for making high-efficiency solar cells at low cost," said Michael McGehee, a professor of materials science and engineering at Stanford and co-authored on a study published in the recent issue of the journal Science. "We have designed a robust, all-perovskite device that converts sunlight into electricity with an efficiency of 20.3 percent, a rate comparable to silicon solar cells on the market today."
>20.3%
Into the trash it goes.
>>57223842
Man solar panels really are fucking shit. You need like 20 of them just to feed a small family home (assuming it's sunny outside).
>>57223924
They really are.
But you have to understand the average user isn't going to make any money from it, just basically offset their electrical bills.
I guess they pay for themselves after the payoff period of like 10 years but fuck that, JUST invest it or something.

Want to try out google cardboard but my phone is 5.5 inch 1080p.
I've heard you need at least 1440p for vr. Is that true? Why?
What will happen if I try out vr anyways? Will it just look like shit?
>>57223398
it will be blurry
It'll work with 1080p. I gave my Google cardboard to some poorfags with 720p screens and they were still amazed. 1440p is probably the recommendation for full immersion. Which I consider BS. Cardboard is a novelty but still worth trying, not worth buying a new phone over without trying it first.
Does anyone here have a fix for VR drift?
I'm tired of this shit
