No, not really.

Pedo detected.
Has it been updated in the past 4 years?
Should I install Arch or Gentoo?
I'm not an IT pro, but I know some basic stuff, some python and java and shit like that. I have been using Linux Mint for a while now, because it was easy to switch from Windows, but now I have some time on my hands and want to get into GNU/Linux a bit deeper and get my hands dirty. What's the right distro for me?
Bonus question: what laptop under 900$ would go best with it?
>>57374797
Install Antergos. Don't try to join this retarded elitists clubs.
>>57374861
What's the advantage over Mint?
I'm looking for something safe that I have 100% control over
gentoo is a distro that works really well on beefy desktop hardware with decent ssds (nvme ssds but ahci ones kinda work), otherwise you're best off installing the binary packages for big programs and at that point why bother
on laptops, at least older ones, gentoo may as well be keyword for multiple hours of compiling the base system
If I create an application under the GPL license, how do I make money off of it?
>>57374092
Customer support. Only paying customers can get official support, you're on your own if you get it for free. That's how redhat makes profit.
>>57374092
Sell it.
>parted magic
>>57374092
Doesn't it depend on the version of the GPL license? I think there are versions that allow you to sell the application regardless of whether it is originally free or not.
Actually, come to think of it, the terms of the GPL that Audacity uses allows for that. Of course, it'd be difficult to pull off because you aren't allowed to change the name.
Why aren't people freaking out over the data caps that comcast is implementing? Why aren't they contacting their representative and calling the FCC?
Do they not see that they are going to start off with 1TB and then lower it to 500GB and then 250 because they want money? They are probably start selling us deals like 250GB/month for $60 and 500 for $75. Come on people. Other ISP are going to follow them since nobody is fighting this and it's a better way to make money.
>>57374037
There's no need to lower them, the requirements for bandwidth is only going to increase. They are just playing a waiting game for everyone to catch up.
Because it's on upgrade from 300GB
>>57374037
>Why aren't people freaking out over the data caps that comcast is implementing?
because america is the land of the free, home of the brave... of course
I run ccleaner semi-regularly and recently it keeps showing these files in \appdata\local\microsoft\windows\webcache\ folder after it's been run.
Can anyone tell me what they are and why they keep coming back?
It's a list of every file you've ever opened on your computer and every site you've ever visited in any browser. Windows keeps these logs "for Internet Explorer" and there's no way to permanently remove them or stop their creation.
GNU/Linux doesn't have this problem.
>>57374089
I don't even have IE installed and they never used to show up
>>57374140
>I don't even have IE installed
You can't remove IE. Disabling it in Programs and Features only hides the shortcuts, the actual functionality is absolutely still there.
>they never used to show up

"Improved Microsoft Edge and Internet Cache cleaning"
Ccleaner added support for removing these files, but they'll just be recreated and continually updated regardless.

Can i now by this to upgrade to 12GB? Will my system run smoothly? i dont know if mixing them not in pairs is bad. Thanks for any advice!

If I download software then download a crack for it, how likely is it that I have just put a trojan or other malware on my computer? I am not a simpleton when it comes to computers I have had many many jobs in computer centres over the last 20 years, but one issue I can never get to the bottom of is whether software cracks and keygens all contain viruses, and if not, why are they all flagged as such by AV software? I have read a lot on the subject but nobody definitively nails it
100% u gonna get hacked and lose your bytes
a crack modifies an executable, any self respecting AV is going to flag that as suspicious.
I really need to switch from my Macbook Air to something more powerful and I don't want to change the OS.
Is it reasonable to get the 2015 Macbook Pro 13" instead of the 2016 version or should I shell out the money and get the newer one?
I don't need this stupid touch bar but I would appreciate the better CPU and RAM of the 2016 MBP.

Buy a dildo and a gun.
Ride the gun and then shoot yourself with the dildo.
Its going to be replaced in a year. If all your looking to do is replace your old ass model then get the 2015 model or previous even. Dont fall for the (((new))) gimmick
>>57373622
2015 owner here. I wouldn't get the 2016 model even if it were given to me for free. I'm fucking serious. The old retinas are just too fucking beautiful and solid in all aspect to even consider switching to the new THINNNNNEEEEERRRR ones.
The touch bar is good and everything, but completely unnecessary. And buying the 2015 model you'll save a few bucks.
Opinions on R?

it exists
Used it to plot the collatz conjecture once, it was fun.
Ok, so right now I have a 1080p 23 or 24 inch monitor (measured with measuring tape hence why it's inaccurate)
the screen is at approximately 32 inches away from me
maybe that's decent but I don't give a fuck, I like to have a screen close to my eyes and with my desk, the best I can probably do is around 25 inches away from my face
so I don't know how to calculate what monitor size I would need to keep around the same "view area"
also, if I'm going to update, might as well go balls deep and go for a 4k monitor, problem is that they don't seem to make small versions of those, 27 inches is about the smallest I could find and that's way too fucking large
wut do?
>>57373221
install gentoo, pleb
>how do i look at a screen /g/
>27 inches
>way too fucking large
I'm like 20 inches from my monitor and it's 27", which is probably too close but completely usable. At your distance it should be fine.

What did they mean by this?
>>57373157
looks like it would make a decent router board if the cpu is strong enough to handle a bunch of connections
>intel
>>>>>>>TRASH
Damn, that looks like one powerful little board.
Stick it to the back of a monitor and it would be a perfect shitposting machine.
>when you shitpost from a 1700 dollar alienware laptop at the Microsoft store
What should I do to it?
>>57373113
Set this as the background
>Take a print of the desktop
>Set it as the wallpaper
>Hide icons and taskbar

Hey /g/ I'm thinking of getting this on black Friday and hopefully get it for about $1,000
Do you think it's a good setup.
I want to run a triple monitor setup over display-port.
and then one HDMI TV on top and i have a DVI monitor by my bed to running the main desktop mirrored.
the 1070 says it only supports 4 displays .
will i be able to run 5 if one is just a copy of the main monitor?
