When a computer runs out of ram it relies on placing pages on disk. But if an host OS runs a VM and the host runs out of space, can VM pages be placed on disk or are they required to stay in RAM for the VM to function ?
Also are pages placed on disk only when the computer runs out of RAM, or does the OS sometimes allocated "fake" memory even if some physical memory is still free ?
The VM is just a program. There may be some conflict with the VM paging alg and the host alg but this is a problem virtualization solutions work to solve via drivers and instruction sets.
As for swapping, that depends on the OS. Memory is used for more than just program memory, so different approaches to swapping will have different benefits. For Linux at least, there is a kernel parameter called swapiness that you can use to change the kernel's predilection for swapping to disk.
Yo can someone send me 4gb of ram
In the most simple case the guest OS would just swap to the virtual disk image attached to the VM
I'm buying a new PC and was never much knowledgeable about rigs. This is what I came up with:
INTEL Core i5 6600K, 3500/3900 MHz, Socket 1151
COOLERMASTER Hyper 212 EVO
GAINWARD GeForce GTX 1070, 8GB, DDR5, DVI, HDMI, DP
ASROCK Z170A-X1, socket 1151, DDR4
2 x SO-DIMM PC-17000, 8 GB, KINGSTON KVR21S15S8/8, DDR4 2133MHz
600W, COOLERMASTER B600, RS600-ACABB1-EU, ATX v2.3. 120mm vent., PFC
I already have a good case and hdd storage units.
Is it any good? Please help
Install gentoo

How much do you pay for that rig?

I'm looking to get a Dell Latitude, either a 14" 5000 or 7000 series. Is this a good decision /g/?
Its shit innit
>>57381067
great decision, Dell Latitudes are very well built and last forever, loyal customer for a decade and will never buy another kind of laptop tbqh
The only things I don't like on my 7559 (which I bought for 500 euros, used) are the opaque finish, which is like a fucking magnet for fingerprints, and the shitty, non-physical buttons of the touchpad (I never use it anyway). Otherwise, I'm very happy with my decision. For this price, it was a steal deal (I bought it from a leasing company).
Here's my spec if anyone's interested:
i7 6700hq
8GB RAM
4gb 960m
128 GB SSD
1 TB mechanical
4K touch IPS
Backlit keyboard
NEC Windows tablet for ~300USD
Core M 5Y71
4gb
128gbSSD
It's a Broadwell CPU, last gen stuff, would not buy
Its shit
god I wouldn't pay anything more than $5 for a tablet and I still probably wouldn't just because burden. what are they even good for?
I've got a bat file that I run when windows starts makes my taskbar thinner (I have it on the side). Problem is I have to turn on auto-hide, run it, then turn auto-hide off. Is there anyway to incorporate that into the script?@echo off

>At DerbyCon 6.0 I released a tool called MailSniper for searching mailboxes for sensitive data in a Microsoft Exchange environment. MailSniper utilizes Exchange Web Services (EWS) when connecting to an Exchange server to retrieve messages from a user’s inbox. EWS is a web-based API enabled on Exchange servers that Microsoft recommends customers use when developing client applications that need to interface with Exchange. The API allows for applications to have the ability to interact with email messages, contacts, calendar, and more from user’s mailboxes.

>After the MFA verification code has been entered the test user was now able to access the inbox at Outlook.Office.com.
How is it compromising anything if he has to enter a MFA verification code?
>>57380942
Because no 2way auth is required even if logging into the account would normally require it, "just" the MFA verification code is enough... another _BOMBASTIC_ headline, MS sure is dead.
>>57380964
So no password is required then? Well that can be problematic but you would either need access to the code generator or get lucky brute forcing. I'd assume there is a lockout mechanism for the verification code.
I want to jew google back
The Nexus 6, which is the worst fucking phone ever, after the update got so laggy that even the music stops from time to time, apps always crashing, camera never working
sadly i dropped it a week ago and the screen cracked, but i still want to call the warranty center, tell them bullshit about how hot it gets and shuts it self off, how camera never works and that i see a little bulge on the back (https://9to5google.com/2015/01/17/motorola-acknowledges-nexus-6-defect-causing-some-back-covers-to-come-unglued/ i don't care it's not true in my case)
I was going to do it now but i read that first google takes from your card the amount of money for a brand new phone, and after they are certain that the phone is damaged the send the money back. Is this true or not?
Also give me suggestion, buying this fucking phone is the biggest regret in my life, fucking waste of money

What /g use backpack,
we all have many electronic stuff , wifi card, usb adaptator and many other thin to travel with,
what to you use tu secure all of this?
i plan tu buy a targus drifter 16"
>>57380653
Had one of those for my old Clevo
Breddy gud
Is it confy ?
Thanks for answer :)
>>57380851
Yes, the back is heavily foam padded, even more than I feel is necessary I'd say
Word of advice though: it is larger than your average backpack (needed it since that Clevo was a fairly thicc laptop, add in an 180w power supply and yeah, I needed something larger)

Why don't SSD vendors just take all the cheap nand chips they have lying around and release a 10TB 3.5" SSD?
they have to first consider if the cost of such an SSD would be low enough for consumers to want to buy enough of them to turn a profit
you can put together an effective 10TB ssd, by raiding them together
it'll end up faster, too, as you'll have multiple IO channels to use
>>57380505
But I don't need any more speed. I need more space.
>>57380516
just buy a high capacity hard drive
