Rolling release distros.
So much work for such little outcome, except busting your system.
No thanks.
>>57409720
Slackware is great, too bad its packages don't have any mention about dependencies.
Not like I feel it's bad but they could have at least a simple text list, no need to resolve that automatically.
>>57409720
>I'm too stupid to run a rolling release distribution
Thanks for clearing that up, fag

Android? iOS? Windows Phone? Sailfish? Tizen? Fuck that! We've got a new player joining the smartphone market!
The team describes Plasma Mobile as a way to turn your smartphone into a “fully open hacking device, just like a PC.” Those of you who have used KDE in the past might be familiar with the Plasma workspace by the name “KDE Plasma”. KDE Plasma is available for desktops, netbooks, media centers for TVs, tablets and now mobile devices. If offers an adaptable user interface and in the future it will also offer a rapidly-maturing software system that is developed with an open life cycle.
The software has built the Plasma workspace into it, and offers KWIN/Wayland and Voicecall/Ofono while also integrating Plasma Apps, Plasma Widgets, Ubuntu Touch Apps and the possibility of installing Sailfish and Nemo Apps. Plasma Mobile’s development team will be aiming to run many Qt/GTK/X11-based applications on the OS, and hope to implement package installation via the “apt-get install packagename” command. The platform will utilize libhybris on ARM devices while opting for DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) on Intel devices.
As of right now, Plasma Mobile only supports the Nexus 5 and the OnePlus One, along with some Intel-based devices. If you want to try this out on the Nexus 5, Plasma Mobile can be installed as a secondary ROM on your device thanks to MultiROM support. The team describes the state of MultiROM support for the Nexus 5 as “Solid” (so while it isn’t perfect, it’s past the ‘Experimental’ state).
ALL HAIL THE PLASMA BOTNET.

S-somebody with a Nexus 5 please....try it, and report back how it runs.
Okay so I have idea. Not allergic to dust or anything, but I'm a lazy cunt who don't want to clean my home often. Will an air purifier catch a lot of dust, making it take longer for things to get dusty? I'm thinking an ionizer would work best; those old CRT TV's with glass screens were always covered with dust... any brand of air purifier specifically made for this purpose?
>>57409635
It'll help, but it probably won't eliminate dust. Mainly because you generate it continuously, a lot of its dead skin cells.
also you'll eventually have to clean the air purifier's filter.
>>57409668
yeah but cleaning a filter is easier than wiping down my entire apartment. and if I put it close to where I spend 90% of my time (computer) it'll be more effective?
>>57409635
It will eliminate about about 30% of the dust but you still need to clean somewhat regularly... (it will give you a extra week tho). I'm a lazy ass cuck myself so I usually use a mini vacuum to handle really bad areas.
Pro tip: make every angled or vertical surface as slippery as fuck that way you only have to vacuum. Also "high-shine" white furniture is a godsend for lazy people..
Moving my daily desktop back off Windows 10. I've used a few flavours of Debian but I am most comfortable with Arch. I saw some shilling of pic related recently, is it any good? Doesn't seem to be much info on the site, it doesn't even mention what package manager it uses, I'm assuming it's Debian based?
Recommendations for a comfy daily desktop.

install macOS
Install VM's of each, run each for a set amount of time. Become educated about the world around you.
>>57409661
I've got half a dozen VMs running at the moment, and I've used several OSes as primary in the past. I am downloading the gentoo and solus images at the moment but I have crappy internet and thought I'd get some opinions here while I wait.
>>57409644
I use a mac all day at work. The keyboard layouts piss me off.
>"We promise."
Seriously why the fuck does anyone believe this?
>not writing your own search algorithm
>>57409570
so it's open source... i don't know shit about search engines
can I compile it and host a copy of duckduckgo on a private server?
How would I go about using only RAM as storage without a HDD assuming I load everything onto it at boot up then keep it powered on for months until I repeat this sequence?
>>57409558
You don't.
Cancer thread is cancerous
>>57409558
Get a job and buy an SSD.
so /g/, you've just put together your new computer, connected your monitor, mechanical keyboard, trackball, etc, and now its time to install the operating system. Which one of these do you pick and why

What is the best router brand?
Seems like most of them don't perform up to specs and have shitty software that isn't updated as soon as the next model hits, and contain cloud/botnet bullshit. I'd prefer one that supports an open source firmware but those usually don't perform as well or are missing features on a lot the newer routers, if they even run on them at all.
Also I live in an apartment building and there are more than 50 wireless networks in range. The 5 GHz band is still somewhat useable, but I need a router that is good with a lot of interference.

I want to switch to Debian, problem is I have no spare hard drives except an external that I would only use for the OS install and nothing else. What's the best way to go about partitioning it so that I use say 10gb for the system and everything else like pictures and videos go on the other 990gb? Using Win7 atm and in the past I've always just used a completely empty hard drive when I switched operating systems
>>57409211
quack quack you weeb fuck, quack quack
>>57409211
Install debian and partition it has needed in the installer.
in my head it would go something like this
\ root 50 GB EXT4
\home 50 GB EXT
\Storage Rest NTFS
Why is storage in NTFS you ask, it's because you might want to open it in windows.
>>57409233
Will it give me a warning before it wipes anything so I don't accidentally delete all my shit?
I'm a retard and I need help
I'm doing a raid0 setup for two ssds

In fact, my innovation would be so that every ISP would decrypt all text that goes through it and run it through a filter for hate speech and cyberbullying

A flagship phone with 1 Gb of storage. Everything is on the cloud except the OS and a small cache of frequently used apps. Its only offered on carriers with small data caps and cloud storage prices are inflated for users of that device "to offer a better, more reliable experience."
Name a better watch.
