Return the laptop Jamal.
Poke around Google. A laptop that old should have some jumper pins to do a CMOS reset.
what are some good program to hide my IP address?

I herd slow charging your phone is more healthy for battery life than fast charging.
Is this true or just snake oil and how do I get it to always charge slow?
Do you have other tips to keep your battery healthy as long as possible?
Slow or fast charging doesnt matter, but I heard lithium ion batteries tend to last longer if you dont always fully charge and discharge. Also charge in short bursts, instead of 2 hours on the charger.
>>57432159
Its practically bullshit time does much more damage than you ever could with slow vs fast charging. Protection circuits prevent undercharged and over charging, the only way charging can do real damage.
>>57432159
There is no appreciable way to extend battery life (as in battery degradation), just hope you got lucky and hope you won the silicon lottery in battery quality

To anyone using GNOME as their DE and trying to play games on it. If you're encountering a mouse issue where the mouse isn't locked so your character keeps staring at the ground or at the sky, it's an issue with Wayland. Log out and try "GNOME with Xorg". Problem should be solved. :^)

This is so sad actually. Why is everyone so hateful and looking to insult each others instead of providing valuable arguments/answers?

I'd say this is the best one out there.

Privileged college student here, studying SE. Birthday is round the corner and daddy's getting me a chair. Not sure what to get. I sat in one of these racing chairs at microcenter and really liked that I can lean back almost completely flat, but a nice leather office chair could be nice.
What chairs do /g/ use?

how the fuck can windows 10 updating be still broken as fuck?
how is it possible that a collective force of ten thousand plus indians can't create a functioning update system...
I tried jumping to Arch Linux but it had trouble handling my two vertical screens and a main 1440p. only KDE's WM and awesome worked but awesome is too sparse for daily use on a desktop and KDE is like using windows
fucking tired of this shit man
Tired of winblows as well. Gonna make a switch to Arch soon but I'm going to keep it simple and use i3. It will require a mindset shift but I think there is no other way to dump this annoying piece of shit OS.
>>57431822
sometimes I think I could've just kept awesome or tried out i3 because you can basically build up a DE around a WM, just requires a lot of work for customizing everything
I just don't have the time. in this aspect the meme is true, if I had settled with KDE it would be fine
>>57431923
i3 is easy to customize. Really. Plus you can backup your conf files for new systems.
Do you think federated protocols have a future or will everyone move to centralized services?
>>57431521
There's an article on LWN from earlier this year with none other than Moxie Marlinspike arguing against federation for Signal, in response to people complaining about it's dependency on Google code and servers.
Which is profoundly discouraging. Companies and governments want everything centralized because they want a single control point that they can twist on. And devs want centralization because they want to write new stuff right now and not have to fight any political battles, and a centralized protocol makes that a lot easier. And in doing so, they act as enablers for the above-mentioned companies and governments when they should instead be fighting to reduce the amount of power they can wield. They're making a horrible compromise to speed things up when one of slowing things down would be a good thing.
>>57431843
Devs write centralized networking stuffs because it's easier, more efficient (only one connection need to be opened) and arguably more secure (in some ways).
For example, making a peer to peer games is pretty much impossible if you're targeting low latency. As for security, the only viable model is bitcoin but this requires a large amount of "mining", a.k.a "wasted computational power", to create proofs that the network isn't being manipulated.
Judging how someone asked me today what a GIF is, I'd say centralized services are the future because 99.99% of people don't know the difference.
hehehe...So why do you geeks use Linux if you can't play Japanese Games on it? Lookie here in the picture, most Japanese games can only play on Windows operating system.

Trying to get my Raspberry Pi running with Xbian and the Exodus add on.
However, for some reason Exodus never shows up under my video add ons repository. Has anyone here done this or know why it doesn't work? Perhaps Xbian blocks it or something, idk. Appreciate all help!

Feels good to be part of the 1%.
Really funny how years ago Google was all about making Android open and that Apple was the evil dictator and now that it's a fragmented mess their copying Apple's model.
