Then Ill just stop using that site. I'll sleep just fine.
Why don't they show you ads from a different location instead of that message if they can detect adblocking? I never understood that.

Hey /g/, what's your guys opinion on Acer Laptops?
My other laptop broke down recently, and I need a replacement, just your basic stuff that can take down notes for College and occasionally run some Videos and stuff, nothing too demanding. I've been looking for nearby store and saw some neat Laptops, I've been drawn to cheap around $219 for an Acer ES1-431, tried it at the store and the keyboard layout is pretty good around modern standards, I mean it's not a IBM Thinkpad layout, but it's better than the recent Lenovo releases and I really like the touchpad design.
My budget is around $250, just need a quick replacement for basics tasks and stuff, though I'm not really confident about the quality of it, never heard much about Acer. I would get a Thinkpad, but I already have a modded T420 and would prefer to get a normie laptop just to keep it low.
Thoughts?
>>57459339
Just get a Chromebook.
>>57459355
Chromebooks are garbage, my uni is loaning them for free but no one uses them anyways, I rather spend a bit of cash than get one of those trash.
At least one of your lecturers is going to say use paper and pen or gtfo my lecture.

ib4 yes systemd is awesome
Is RAID 1 a good way to protect against data loss in comparison with something like keeping things backed up on an external drive? I currently have hundreds of GB of music and stuff on just a single harddrive and I would cry if it would suddenly die. Plugging in another HD seems less of a hassle than keeping an external drive synced and it would give a little bit of a performance increase as well.
>>57459218
Also have to add that internal drives aren't really any more expensive than external drive, and I don't care about the data being portable or not.
>>57459218
>it would give a little bit of a performance increase as well.
No, and why would it?
Anyway, both solutions have advantages and disadvantages.
>>57459218
RAID is not a backup. It does cover you for single disk failure, which is good, but in general, if you're accessing the data on that system routinely, it's not a backup.
Use RAID on important machines that can't go down, and on systems where you can't afford to lose whatever work is done between regular backups.
If you have an old box with lots of bays, load it up with big slow drives, and use something that supports RAID6 or ZFS's RAIDZ (NAS4free or FreeNAS, etc). Set up automated backups to run at least nightly, and don't worry about RAID on your desktop.
Also, check restore the validity of your backups every few months.
Munich is the pioneer of en masse migration from Windows to Linux after the city started the transition to open-source software in 2004 and completed it many years after that, but it turns out that local authorities are once again considering going back to Windows and Office in the coming years.

There you have it folks.
Munich fell for the opensores meme and regrets it.

Too bad that the problems they have aren't related to Linux
Oh look guise - A new set of people in the goverment in 2016 are making different choices than the old set of people in goverment in 2004!
Even the *new goverment* knows that linux is shit haha kek
Fuck off degenerate

Saged
100€ says 90% of those bugs and crashes were HR cunts being too dumb to adapt to and use a program whose UX is almost exactly the same as the M$ software they used before, or compatibility problems when they did part of their work at home on their Wangblows machines using M$hit Orifice, then tried to import them in LibreOffice.
TL;DR
1D10t errors everywhere.

Hi /g/ I'm in a buying dilemma.
I can't decide between form factors. I was planning on getting something with some extra power to try something new but am still drawn to that sexy small and portable ultrabook meme (past 4 laptops were 13").
I will use it mostly for photo editing
and illustration (maybe a occasional video) and some light coding. The main reason I was looking at "bigger" devices is screen size and guts (muh sporadic gaymin).
The max budget is 1000$.
Buy the first one if you're keen on protecting your virginity

Not a man child, was just thinking gpu would come in handy if I wanted to expand into 3D modeling and CAD

nigga I do CAD and 3D on a T420 iGPU. Unless you need to render shit all the time you don't need monster GPU
When did VirtualBox become so shit?

stop whining, faggot
used to be at a place that had to keep a W2K server around just for 20 year old accounting software. It didn't even have ACPI and had the old "it's now safe to shut off your computer" screen. also had to deal with clients that had windows 95, again due to proprietary software. also knew a few car places still on dos, same reason.
>>57459705
W95 was my favorite as a child. Can't remember why.
So I've moved into a new flat share. This shady technician guy/janitor isn't willing to give us the Password to the pic related router. He was saying something weird about "having bad experiences with that" and how "we would be able to see bank Details"
Anyway: it's shady as fuck and I'm just wondering what privacy is compromised if he has Access to pic related. Can they read my Passwords/bank Details/ porn history?
The router is the Fritzbox 7362sl
>yes, germanfag here
If he has access to it, everything non-encrypted you do is compromised.
botnet
So get your own installed you entitled fuck, unless it says somewhere in whatever paperwork you signed that WiFi is included then you haven't got a leg to stand on.
There's nothing shady about him he's just a dick.
tried to install kubuntu, my amd hd radeon 7800 card didn't like that at all. tried both open source and proprietary drivers, but result is same; green lines all across screen on boot, kubuntu doesn't load just green lines
worked fine when i booted from cd to install. nomodeset in grub boots fine but essentially makes my card an extension coord for the motherboard. integrated graphics also works. my card works fine on windows 7. should i try another distro? suggestions?

It's not. Private trackers are a meme and /g/ falls hook line and sinker for of because it makes them feel special when they are pirating.
