What is the best hacking OS and why is it kali linux?

>kali linux
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

How many of you only use a desktop, and no "mobile" devices like smartphones, tablets or laptops?
>>57496345
You're on the wrong board son.
>>57496466
why senpaitachi? I'd assume tech-minded people would rather use desktop than underpowered laptops or smartphones.
>>57496478
Today's equipment can handle 90-99% situations a desktop can do.
Hello, /g/. I come to your help. A good friend of mine recommended me for a Linux SysAdmin job. I'm going to the interview in around one week, and I'm terribly nervous. I am decently proeficient in Linux, at least in my opinion, I can work in the terminal, code a bit in Bash and Python, do shit like kill pid, simple commands like alias, cat and what not. What should I really know for this kind of job? My friend told me that I should get a better understanding of how different internet protocols work and how to set up a mail server, which seems simple enough. Help me, /g/, I would love to land this job.
>>57496306
Shit senpai, I know this too. Can I be a sysadmin?

I don't know, my friend, who is a Network Admin told me that I'd do alright.
What's the point of LXQt while LXDE exists? Lubuntu's LXQt transition has been postponed to the 17.04 release.
Thinks you should consider before trying out LXQt
⧁>The file picker is w̲o̲r̲s̲e̲ than the gtk+ file chooser widget
⧁>Often times the window list in the bottom panel is plain retarded. Each item in the list takes a very long space
⧁>Almost no decent icons for the panel and theme for desktop
⧁>Wayland session is way behind the schedule. Not that it matters just as much though
⧁>no whiskermenu
Discuss
lxde is pretty bad too
>what's the point
The point is to have a desktop environment whose core components are utilizing the Qt toolkit, idiot.
Most of the things you mention have nothing to do with its core principle and are merely bugs regarding software. Some of the things are just plain wrong like "no icons" (icons are system wide and they respect your system icon theme, except if there are maybe a few panel specific icons which are hardcoded).
Lxde as a project is quite dead, but LXQt is interesting as it could use KDE framework to improve itself. Also as Dolphin exist, why care abouf other FM
Why doesn't AOL promote AIM anymore?

What exactly is his end game here? What's his logic behind not supporting commercial software? Why shouldn't data be valued, developers have to eat too and their skills are valuable. Hell, software development is one of the few ways the truly poor and broken can change their circumstances. Is it some kinda delusion resource based ideology that doesn't factor effort and work as a resource to be paid for?
Free as in freedom, not free as in beer. You can sell 'free' software, you just also have to provide the source code to those you sell it to.
>>57496104
Does stallman use any open source software that isn't readily available without payment?
>>57496122
Does any such software actually exist? Open source developers usually have no interest in that model and for a software development firm it makes no sense, your customers are mostly other businesses who probably don't care and it opens doors for your technology to be stolen.
I can think of some things that come close, Qt and CPP-CMS for example, but they have "free for open source use" tiers.
iOS Open Source App Thread

Why does it matter what is open-source when iOS is not open-source? You are already running proprietary software.

Srs question, if Python is so much slower than Java then how the hell can python be viable for anything even slightly intensive? I really like the feel of python but I do not want to make something only to find out down the road that it runs like shit
It's not

>>57496031
less verbose language makes for faster dev time and easier changing.
If your project becomes a success and python a bottleneck then you might rewrite in something faster. IF.
>>57496031
Every non-trivial Python project gets rewritten at least partially into something else at some point.
what do if i have no way of getting an ethernet cable to my pc?

I'm fairly sure the person would have put more than 60 seconds into perfecting the technique. It just took 60 seconds to show it off.
