Do they intentionally make this stuff as awful as possible to work with?
>bunches up on itself the second you glance at it
>holds bends like a motherfucker
>annoying ass fiber inside that you have to cut away
>wires twisted so tight you have to use needle nose or give yourself carpal tunnel to get them untwisted
>standard that seems to make no sense (why would you separate orange from orange with stripe? Why not keep them together and make the pattern 10 times easier to remember? I get it that it's a standard but when they made the standard they could have done it however they wanted!)
>have to use a punchdown tool that is just a bitch
>generally have to do dozens or hundreds of punchdowns in a row
>the punchdown covers always fall off
>when it's all done there's 1 million tiny minuscule pieces of trash to clean up
>>57593527
You bitch too much.
a few weeks ago I had to quickly splice a line in 3 places in a permanent fashion, and all I had was a fucking soldering iron.
>>57593527
Jesus you're a bitch. If you are doing a lot of punch downs, buy a JackRapid tool and knock them out in like 10 seconds.
For untwisting the pairs, just use a small screwdriver; slip it between the base and pull up. Boom, untwisted. Also, buy a jacket cutter so you don't have to use the string. They are dirt cheap and you just spin it around the cable once and slide the jacket off.
>>57593527
>>wires twisted so tight you have to use
You're really bitchy about this purposeful feature
needle nose or give yourself carpal tunnel to get them untwisted
without the twisting they become more susceptible to EMI

The 760k is complete trash and performs worse than 10 year old intel chips. The chip may not be physically old but the actual technology is
I bought one of those shitty chink USB audio controllers and after 2 weeks it finally malfunctioned.
The issue is that I'm using a server without integrated sound card as a desktop PC.
So how shall I get sound?
I have a laptop, an Android phone, an orange pi and a video card that has audio over HDMI but no monitor with HDMI.
Is there some way to run the HDMI to the pi or the laptop and only use it to output aound?
i can't say that i've been in a predicament similar to yours in the past so pardon my ignorance but have you tried installing gentoo

Apple is my fav hardware developer for sure because my fav thing in IT is goofs, gags, jokes and rambunctious behavior, and their computers are full to the brim of it. Every laptop is like one of those novelty snake cans, you open the macbook & POP you get a face fulla snakes and you fall back cackling. The mad mind, the crack genius, to do it! and then you think hmmm whatre they gonna do next, those tricksters, and you pick the book back up and BZZZZZZZZZZ you get a shock and Hahahahahah you've been pranked again by the old applemeister, that card. "Did that dongle?" They say, laughing yukyukyukyuk. Watch them as they shove a pair of plastic buck teeth right up into their mouth and display em for you- left, right, center- "you like dese? Do i look handsome???" Pulls out a mirror. "Ah!" Hand to naughty mouth. And you're on your ass again laughing as they snap their suspenders, exits stage right, and appears again hauling a huge golden gong.

What should I learn to be able to get job security in embedded? I currently already have an embedded software job, but I'm using old tech there (all assembly for a fairly ancient CPU) and I want to know what I should know if/when I decide to move on.
>>57593326
I have to ask what is inherently wrong with RPi as an embedded system? I haven't got into them yet because I have been too into Arduino and designing my own circuit, but they seem like they could be useful for such applications.

Dear /g/, What are the best mp3 players on the market for under $500? I wouldn't mind trying an alternative player to an ipod.

do u really need more than 128gb of music in your pocket? you can't narrow it down even a little

>16-20GB of free space
What the fuck?
It's just some lines of code and a GUI drawn in paint, what the fuck could possibly take up that much space?
Are you retarded?
>>57593464
No, seriously, explain to me why GNU/LINUX kernels take up only 500MB-1GB of space and Windows takes up half of the fucking galaxy

I don't have an ipad and am planning to get one.
I am only using it for:
> Reading, movies, surfing not heavy tasks.
Right now the ipad air 2 is $540 Aud and seems like a good bargain.
However it was released in 2013 and was skeptical whether the hardware will be too weak and out of date. I am hoping to use it for at least 3 years. As a comparison I bought a Note 3 2014 and still using it fine.
Should I get the ipad air 2 or wait for the air 3 or whatever the new ipad would be?
>>57593209
The only reason to prefer an "Air" over an iPad 4 is that your wrists are too weak to hold it upright.
Hey OP, 'Murrica here. Got one for $250 and for that price I think it is perfect. So beyond maybe $350 AUD I don't really think it is worth it.
Typo, the air 2 was released in 2014 my bad.$ 540 is simply the retail price and I could ask for discount a bit less.
Was browsing GitHub one day, came across an interesting program that claims to automate the process of applying for jobs on indeed.com.
Finally got it to run, but it produces no results when searching for jobs. My theory is that indeed changed its search engine interface and thus the program was no longer compatible. But this should be an easy fix, right?
Anyone want to help me fix this program up? A lot of NEETs here could use this. It would be nice to have a tool in our pocket that gives us an edge with 0 effort on our part.

>he turned this stupid fucking light around the touchpad for an unknown reason
>the only way to disable it is fn + spacebar
>usb keyboard doesn't have fn key
>try on-screen keyboard

>try some shit software for remapping keys
>nope
>find something about substituting function keys for fn in bios
>still doesn't work

holy shit i have the same laptop as you for ~5 years. thanks for finally telling me how to turn off the touchpad light!

Intel Pentium 1, can't tell if MMX or not.
What kind of motherboard is this?
>>57592990
Not needed to be Pentium I, AMD chips uses Socket 7 too, and VIA and a lot of CPUs back then were using that socket
How do you make it stop downloading unchecked files anyway?

That's a jewtorrent problem

By using transmission instead.
I've been a long time qtorrent user. Is it worth switch over to this one?
Can someone identify the issue with my laptop it gives me this flashing line endlessly
shit man you gotta unplug your RAM before it overdrives your CPU booster and shuts down your power sequencer
you better act quickly before the north bridge melts all over your PCP and ruins your core S2 driver

Question for the experts of /g/:
>there's a bunch of websites with a 'search' feature, where you can input a string of text to run against a database to identify matches
>I want to create a single web-based platform where putting in a string of text will automatically search all those websites and return the results together
>how do I do this?
there's a reason Google sorts and omits over half of the "relevant" searches
What you're describing is essentially what was wrong with 90's search engines; too many people trying to include everything they can and ending up with a pile of garbage the client them self has to sort through
The point of a search engine is that it searches for you, and gives you what might be the most relevant site, not giving you 1000 sites that mentioned your keyword at some point
>>57592962
I'm not talking about a search engine utility.
Here's a good example of what I'm getting at with a totally different pretext:
>people go fishing in their secret spots
>every now and then, fisherman upload text files indicating where their secret spot is
>there's 7 websites that scan the web looking for these text files
>you can query these 7 websites by typing in your location, suburb, region or state; to see if there's any secret fishing spots nearby
>currently, these websites have varying amounts of data and different results
>I want to create a platform whereby you can automatically search all 7 websites for results
is this a little more clear?
>>57593045
I think I understand, what I'm saying is why? The point is to get better and less search results, not more and worse results
If I bought a water cooled PC, what do I do to take care of it?
>>57592772
change the water every 2 weeks and you're good to go.
>>57592785
would that be any kind of water? distilled, tap, etc?
>>57592806
The pH of tap water is too high, you can use volvic mineral water for a more neutral acidity to clean the pipes once in a while. Distilled is fine. You want to make sure algae don't disturb the flow and the minerals run cooler at the expense of a lesser clean distilled flow.
