i need to stream numerous audio samples from disc and i would like to know if having the samples at "root" level is going to make it faster.
is it going to perform better at "C:\files.wav" compared to "C:\folder\folder\files.wav"

I'm sure everything is salvageable. I've trashpicked computers that have been sitting in the rain for weeks, and aside from a rusty case, they've worked perfectly after letting them dry.
You never know until you try though - put the thing back together and see if it works.
