Kobo, Kindle or a third choice?
Don't buy the Swindle or anything from Amazon. https://stallman.org/amazon.html
>>57594101
>it doesn't even mention the LITERAL VIRUS that ships on Kindle which loads arbitrary third party content
This is why Stallman and FSF in general are morons- they care about made-up or trivial grievances more than actual direct harm to users.
>broke my paperwhite
>warranty expired but amazon says they can offer a new paperwhite for 95 or a refurbished for 65
Should I even bother with amazon again and go with kobo?
What's the best distro for hosting a server?
>Lightweight
>Stay up for extended periods of time
>Not performance heavy
>Gentoo and Arch are out of the question, not dealing with that shit
Debian.
Those criteria don't really rule out anything. Redhat is a full featured server oriented OS and runs on a fraction of a percent of one haswell core and a couple hundred MB of RAM.
Debian
Why do you use windows 10?
NSA
Because Cortana doesn't work in my region.
>>57594031

Know the following:
>staff occasionally read these generals and have posted here before, though most claims of being staff are false
>staff may pretend to be normal users asking for invites and when you invite them, they ban you for inviting strangers
>sneaky bastards will try to convince you that cheating can be evaded. It can't and you will be banned and everyone will laugh at you
>people claim to report emails and other personal info posted here to staff to get you banned. french are cucks
>most of the invite offers here are people trolling you with false hope - begging for invites is a waste of time

Which is objectively the best one?
>>57593919
depends

it depends on what you're trying to implement. If I were Netflix, nothing would be worse than decentralized or distributed

Redpill me on HCI (human-computer interaction) as a field. Why do CS departments have these sociologists on their faculty?
>>57593774
Companies hire them so that they do not end up here: https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/11/showcase-of-beautiful-but-unusable-websites/
>>57593774
being able to form mental models of how users use (or can't use) the programs you create is useful
>>57593866
/thread
Also, in case you are wondering:
You need a designer to design the website. The designer is what prevents stuff like this from happening: http://www.drudgereport.com/
You need a UI/UX fellow (similar to HCI) to prevent this: >>57593866
You need a front-end dev to take the designs and recommendations of the above, and turn them into actual code.
You need a back-end dev if your site is more than just a few static pictures and text.
You cannot just pick up HTML and CSS and expect to have a beautiful and usable site after a week. You are just going to make another TimeCube.
Why is Terry obsessed with Physics Girl?
Guess.
>>57593771
There's a rumour she had a relationship with her biological brother. Terry if batfuck insane. Birds of a feather flock together I guess.
>>57593771
are u unfamiliar with the concept of a waifu?
basically that.
i need to stream numerous audio samples from disc and i would like to know if having the samples at "root" level is going to make it faster.
is it going to perform better at "C:\files.wav" compared to "C:\folder\folder\files.wav"
Yupp, even mapping a harddrive to A:\ will make it faster since there's less letters to look through before finding the right one.
>>57593602
really? source?

You need reiserfs
So I found a computer in the woods. I disassembled it and cleaned off the parts inside. There was a bit of water and sand, but its dry now. Do you think any of these parts are salvageable/can be resold?
>>57593540
Did you even try to turn it on and see if it worked?
>search hdd
>find cc info
>flip for a profit
>>57593540
I'm sure everything is salvageable. I've trashpicked computers that have been sitting in the rain for weeks, and aside from a rusty case, they've worked perfectly after letting them dry.
You never know until you try though - put the thing back together and see if it works.
