So question about tech job demand and indias taking them

Is it really true or is it more the fact that we have little supply here in America? Like all the programmers and tech people are going for jobs other than the ones indians fill. Or maybe it is a lack of smarter people?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
it's a mix of both.

india is slightly bigger than 1/3 the US's square mileage but has 3 times as many people. even if they had sewage systems and toilets everywhere (and they don't), it would be overflowing with shit non-stop. i can only imagine what kind of hell hole india is.

so yeah, indians are desperately scrambling to get the fuck out of there, and tech jobs in general are a good ticket.

but it doesn't help that a lot of americans are getting degrees in journalism and women's studies and then looking around like deer in the headlights when they find out nobody is hiring for those degrees.

Statisically, Chinese and Indians have been making bad quality code, and it has been a frustration for experienced coders in management when a company tries to outsource. But I believe they also hold the value that maybe there's so much demand for different fields that they are desperately in need of homegrown techs.

Wasn't the STEM program meant to resolve this issue?
>>
>>57597417
the idea that graduates from STEM programs in the US are unequivocally writing *perfect* code is a fallacy. get that idea out of your head and you start dealing with a genuine trade-off of how much you're willing to cut corners on cost to get code out the door.

most companies want to optimize for lines of code, and honestly a lot of projects don't *need* brilliant minds; they just need more brains connected to fingers.

this is the real tragedy; that if americans weren't majoring in bullshit fields so much, and if STEM graduates were willing to take less gilded paychecks (or would get out of their dumb heads this idea of being the next steve jobs or bill gates or mark zuckerburg), then the US could produce all the programmers american companies need.

>>
I bought a Samsung ARM Chromebook for travelling initally, but ended up using it in a lot of classes.

Its cheap, fast and reliable and for most lectures you just need a pdf open and some word processor. Took my real laptop for programming/networks classes though.

I also didnt take care of this chromebook at all, it is scratched to hell, got wet from rain, but nothing has broken after more than 3 years now.

>Pros
Probably the most stable rolling-release binary-based distro available.
Configurable to infinity and beyond
Huge app library especially if you include the AUR
Hipster Cred

Cons:
You're responsible for fucking everything and people on 4chan call you a faggot.

I think it's a fair tradeoff.

So the year is 2017.
Zen releases and everything goes better the expected. They start eating away at Intels market share.
Do we finally get better CPUs or is my Sandy Bridge Going to last me 4 more years because theres literally no progress.

Google was able to create an amazing UI (could be called a distro too) with smooth animations, consistency, easy to use, no need of the command line and open source based on Linux. Pretty much Apple-like but open.

How come no one has been able to create something even remotely close to this for desktop Linux?
Literally every single Linux distro is ugly, buggy, difficult to use or all of the mentioned.

He did a horrible job of debating Hillary's email issue. It seems the only part of her email scandal he is able to understand is that she deleted 30,000 emails.

I got the JBL 305s just this week. They do sound better than anything I've ever heard before, and the price is really unbeatable.

They do lack solid, really low bass - they still are 5'' speakers - but I guess thats normal for any monitor of this size.

JBL makes a sub (LSR310) for these, might be worth looking at. I'm considering it for listening to music with more low end.
>>
>>57596765

I have pair of HS7 and I like them most. if I was poor I'd def go for LSR308.
>>
I have a couple of LSR305 and an LSR310 paired with a UR22. I'm very happy with my purchase. Music sounds quite nice, much nicer than any of the other speakers in my house.

Do any one your faggot have smart house gimmicks set up? I was thinking of buying a raspberry pi a phillips hue set up and some motion sensors along with https://home-assistant.io/ . I live in a share house and the landlord offered to remiburse me if i set it all up. It looks like i could save some decent money by replacing lights with LED and have them turn off/on under certain condition (no movment on a floor for a couple of hours and so on). Since i live with six other retards who can't turn off lights i figured it'd be a good way to test the water.

I was thinking down the line of setting up a watering system with another pi attached to heat/humidity sensors and possibly a security system too.

Post projects you've completedwish to take one.

How are you gonna do the wiring? In europe we have had a light/heating/etc network since the 2000s, so nowadays you can just add an IP gateway and control the whole deal from your phone. One of these with a raspberry Pi was my uni project.
>>
>>57596833
I'm not sure for the security/gardening to be honest i'll try the lights first since they come with a hub that connects to wifi which connects to the pi (thank god 3 comes with WLAN). I'll try out some basic motions sensor set up first so if people get up during the night the lights can be triggered and will turn on. All i want to sort is getting the hues in so i can turn every thing off and have some program switch them off. What did you end up connecting to that program, anhy good?
>light/heating/etc network since the 2000s

Its called KNX, sometimes EIB/KNX. It's basically a communications network for microprocessors running inside actors etc. Its wired though.

There are wireless alternatives, the most common one here being EnOcean.

I have also made a framework for arduinos and ESP8266 based devices that, equipped with actuators and sensors create a wireless network of switches, sensors, lights, motors. But I need to provide electricity for everything, thats why Im asking.
