So my home PC, which I have for nearly 7 years now, is starting to fall apart (random crashes, not as fast as it used to be, etc.).

Today my graphic card stopped working altogether, and I decided its time to get a new one.

So help me build my next PC! I need opinions on which processor to take, graphic card, harddrive (I heard SSD is the shit but is it worthwhile for non-laptops?), case, etc.

Most of my work with the PC would be software development and hobby game dev, which include photoshop, 3ds max, Unity, unreal etc. I also like to play games here and there.but I'm not looking to buy a gaming monster. I relay on the next PC to hold for the next 6 years.

I want to invest between $1500 to $2000.

Help me out?

Yes, sdd's are the shit, but you should still have a large hdd for backups and storage space.

>sdd's are the shit, but you should still have a large hdd for backups and storage space.
are you talking about one of those hybrids that are mostly non-SSD but got few GB SSD for OS and other optimizations?
>>
>>57685919
No. Ignore those, they are trash. You have a nice budget consider the crucial mx300 or Samsung 850. The problem is a 1tb sdd is $250+, while a 5 tb hdd is about the same. Alot of people just get a 500gb or so ssd and also buy a 2tb or larger hdd for everything else.

First of all, wrist pads are awful for your wrists. What you want is a palm rest.

Two, why the fuck would you even need a rest when using a claw grip mouse.

What the fuck is this GPU? (pic related)
https://jet.com/product/PNY-GeForce-GTX-1060-Graphics-card-GF-GTX-1060-3-GB-GDDR5-PCIe-30-x16-DVI-HDMI-3/76f66bd689c24580b37e32e6e3e461e1

So I see it has a deal and I can get it for 175$ (including tax) sounds pretty good to me.
Then I look at the GPU and look it up on newegg. It doesn't exist.
I screenshot the GPU and look it up to find it here http://www.palit.com/palit/vgapro.php?id=2674&lang=en
Anyone ever heard of Palit before?
The fuck is it?
It sounds shady as fuck that on the jet page they are calling it PNY. The only difference is the fan stickers.

Also is JET shady when it comes to GPUs? Like they don't have what models they are half the time and shit.

it's fine, palit isn't the best but it's just a matter of stickers on the fan (would highly suggest a 6gb 1060 though)

PNY, Palit and Gainward are sister companies with the same owner, and share card designs. Go have a look at all their cards.

I got a gaming laptop which has starting shutting down suddenly. I suspect it may be bad capacitors on the motherboard.

Is it possible for a novice to diagnose and repair a laptop motherboard, or is it just better to buy a replacement?

Dont bother, it's too difficult and you'll probably mess up the air-tight compartments
>>
>>57685769

Is it even worth looking into having someone repair it, or just get another motherboard?
>>

>doing measurements like that w/ no grounding or anything
why don't you just throw it in the trash right away

also, as for your original question: lol.

Hey /g/uys. Anyone know if this is a good 3d printer? I want to get into them and learn a bit, my moms friend makes stuff all the time and it seems fun. I don't need a super intense one or anything, just a starting one that's decent. This one has pretty good reviews, especially for being only $300.

The thing is I want to be able to make cosplay sort of stuff, like a Red Hood mask or Batman cowl. Think this one is capable or do I need a heavy duty one for that?

It has bad chinky DRM firmware but the machine itself was alright. I think you could flash Repetier-firmware on some of them but i'm not sure which model.

Also update, apparently you can only do it with the 1.0. If you like to get your hands dirty (you should be if you're looking to get into 3d printing), you can get an older (jailbreakable) 1.0 up for auction and fix it up. Example:

How come a factory overclocked 7790 is able to trade blows and compete with a HD 6970?
6970 used to be able to compete against a 7870GHZ but now it's struggling to hold its own against a 7790.

Has everything pre-GCN truly been gimped?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>57684907
You realise that Pajeetech doesn't go back and retest these old cards, right? That's why all the games there are old as fuck. Those benchmarks were conducted years ago, so your theory of recent gimping is fucked before it even gets off the ground.

I have noticed you trying to push this meme real hard over the past week or so, anon, so kudos for that.
>>
>>57684960
Yeah I saw it yesterday. OP was btfo in the first post as well. The gist of it was: "6970 is VLIW arch, fucking ancient not optimised for anymore, the 260x is GCN, still current"
>>
>>57685496
400 and 500 series nvidia are still getting dx11 optimisation's despite being 4 architectures old now.

JavaScript and C/C++ are equal in that though. It's just Java which is faster. No surprise though. The only languages that have any chances at competing with high-level Java are hilariously young. (Golang, for example, which has hilariously bad GC.)

No question that C is a horribly shit language though. Can I get a citation for that image, so that I might check what the score is for Fortran and Ocaml?
