It seems that even though Uthman had a ‘Sword of Truth’ he was unable to ascertain anything concerning the real truth of the rights of human beings. Him and his followers considered what they were doing to be educational, but did not consider the fact that almost nothing in the Quran is educational relative to a non-theocratic contemporary scholarship, especially concerning mathematics, philosophy, science, political theory, social theory or any other sort of rational theory.

Uthman’s effective policy which he preached to his followers was completely antithetical to the Hausa Sultans except in regards to the pursuit of power. Both sects were fond of the jihad to achieve their goals. Uthman pursued a different type of jihad juxtaposed to the Hausa sultans, while still grasping for power like a theocratic dictator, like the Hausa sultans. The religious contention between the two factions was the idea of Sufism against Sharia. Sufism is Islamic mysticism while Sharia is Islamic law. The Hausas were concerned with maintaining theocratic authority over pagans while Uthman was not as concerned, but promoted more religious tolerance with exceptions. Uthman, having a sort of mental illness, saw a vision in which Allah gave him a metaphorical ‘Sword of Truth.’ Even with this “sword”, he still died, irregardless of his hijras and hajj’es.

Before he died, however, reformed women’s rights to a certain extent. He gave women the right to read and learn from the Quran by themselves, instead of relying on ‘corrupted men.’ They would soon come to find out after reading the Quran that they had no rights irregardless, (relative to the men in the society.) For example, if women read the Quran they would know that they could have: ½ a share of a man’s inheritance, one husband (husband can have multiple wives, just like Muhammad), obedience to their husbands (or else when you go to sleep your husband can hit you), prepubescent sex with older men, among other religious rights enumerated in the Quran.
