What's the most Linux friendly laptop manufacturer?

I'm sick of them dumbing features out of the BIOS so normalfags don't get confused. This makes it impossible or really difficult to boot from a USB or DVD

As far as I know, HP's bios has legacy booting support, disablable secure booting, and USB booting on top of other methods. Even Virtualization if you're into that sort of thing.

yes and no.

the set up looks more excessive than it is.

looks like a high end DAC, and an high end tube amp.

but the choosing of a tube amp and the over shielded cables are signs of autism.

Why aren't you running an Amiga Workbench 3.X system, /g/?

>Why aren't you running an Amiga Workbench 3.X system

leaving the linuxsphere removes a lot of access to software that no one has the time to completely port and recompile

a solution to that is running a linux content server for pulling and running content and then converting and pushing it to a non-Linux client OS
>>
>>57907620
Amiga OS3 came with the Amiga 1200 circa 1990.

FreeBSD has a linux layer, with few exceptions, anything that runs on linux runs on freebsd

Do you think it will really launch in January?

I was thinking of getting a 1080 and then I hear about this, and that changes everything.

Doesn't Nvidia usually release cards in the Summer? Have they ever released a new card in January before?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>57907502
they will if AMD puts out Vega on the time suspected, should be around the 9th for that
>>
Like the other anon said, the 1080 Ti is pretty much just to compete with AMD at CES 2017. Lot of people making new builds with the new 200-series processors coming out, and Nvidia doesn't want to lose those profits. It's basically the new Titan X for $400 less.
>>
>>57907578
It is the Titan X, this isn't GP100, it's just a further cut down GP102. The Titan X they're selling right now isn't the full GP102 core either.

Nvidia didn't include much redundancy in the Pascal design so any process error results in an entire section having to be welded off. Bad move for profit on a new process but it cuts down on power usage and die size quite a bit.

Full GP102's are being reserved for workstation products, just as full GF100's and full GK110's were.

Don't ask what happened to GP100, consumers will never see it.

My PSU just blew

Saw a quick flash of flames, heard a pop noise and then the machine smelt like TCP anti-septic.

Everything looks OK on the mobo and GPU, but what are the chances of something else being fried as well as the PSU?

Specs:

i5 4690
GTX 780 Ti
Gigabyte B85M-DS3H-A
Antec VPF650 650W PSU

It's all still under warranty other than the GPU so alls good, I just want to know if I should be preparing to fork out for another GPU.

>>
>>57907427
High probability of damage, especially if flames were involved. That sounds like the fuse didn't fail before a component failed. Even if the damage doesn't outright kill a component, future stability may be impacted.

Don't buy bargain bin PSU's next time
>>
>>57907547
Would it be worth risking plugging it back in and seeing if anything happens? I'd take the GPU out obviously because I don't want to risk that dying without warranty
>>
>>57907559
It caught on fucking fire and you want to plug it back in?

Are you purposely attempting to be retarded?

You probably don't need a switch for most purposes, just get a network hub.

I'm trying to turn an old laptop into a halfway-servicable gaming box by adding a desktop video card to it via external PCI-E port (pic related).
Do these things actually work/are they worth it?

Seems like a chink brand fire hazard.
>>
They do but you get a severe performance penalty from the shitty processor on the laptop throttling to 2 GHz or less when under very heavy load (ie playing vydia).

In the end building a desktop is a much much better practical solution and more economical too.
>>
an old laptop will probably have a dual-core CPU from the cold war days that will bottleneck everything no matter how good the graphics card is.
just get a 2nd hand desktop for like 50 bucks or something

How do I move to Linux from Windows? I'm currently on Windows 10 and planning on dual booting for a bit till I grab the basics so I'm wondering what is the best distro to start off with and also if there is special needs to dual boot it. I know Ubuntu does it but from what I've seen from here it's kinda basic and I'm lookin to expand my horizons. I'm okay with a larger learning curve.

You could try Fedora. I'm currently using Mint which is based on Ubuntu and have no complaints.

Sup /g/

I can't be the only one with this issue.

>have a server running 4 x 2TB drives in RaidZ1

>house is littered with other drives
>mainly farmed from broken laptops and PC's that relatives have brought in to save data and transfer to new laptops.

>2 x 1TB 3.5" drives
>2 x 1TB 2.5" drives (now in caddies)
>2 x 320GB 2.5" drives (no caddies)
>1 x 2TB SAS drive out of fucking nowhere
>3 other assorted mystery sized 3.5" HDDS

wtf do I do with all this shit?
I've already given away drives in caddies to retarded family members who now know the value of having a backup solution.
