What are some good books on computation theory and math behind programming?
>'And what name do you want inscribed?'
>I said, 'I'll write it for you.' I wrote the name down: COBOL.
>'What kind of name is that?'
>'Well it's a Polish name. We shortened it and got rid of a lot of unnecessary notation.'
Howard Bromberg on how he bought the COBOL tombstone

So, I'm getting a new monitor and I'm thirsty for V-Sync, but I have a strict budget of $400. This means that I really only have two attractive options: the AOC g2460pg and the Acer XB241H. The AOC has mostly good reviews and feedback, and apparently has decent color/blacks for a TN screen, but I'm finding it almost impossible to find reviews of the XB241H. Tons of feedback on the other Acer G-Sync models, but not this cheaper one. Should I just assume that's a bad thing and go with the AOC?
Fuck, not V-sync, G-Sync. I meant G-Sync
They're the same price (~$400) and have a similar feature list (1080p, 144hz, G-Sync, 24" screen, etc), so I'm really not sure how to make the call when there's so little info to find on the Acer.
They're both TN panels so neither are going to have great blacks, but you should try and figure out which has the best blacks and decide based on that
Good afternoon /g/
I have a technical question. I rebooted my android phone this morning and it got stuck in a reboot-loop, I performed a factory reset and now it's asking me to log in on the account previously used on the phone.
Now this shouldn't be a problem, but every time after logging in it just returns back to the beginning of the account verification progress. How do I get past this?
Please help a brother out, I really need my phone for my study and I can't afford a new one.
By "account" I mean my google account.
Give it back Jamal
I'm seriously in deep shit if this is not getting fixed. I just bought this phone and spent 2 weeks pay on it.
Please help me out.
I've been thinking of getting an e-reader (probably a kindle, though I ain't a brandwhore) for myself and realized maybe I could also read manga on those. So I've been wondering how is manga reading on those? Does it look good? And do they have enough internet capabilities nowadays so that I could for example go on some ftp site to download a .zip file with manga inside and just start reading, without connecting it to the PC?
Could anyone who's done a similar thing share his experience?
>>57997568
Most readers won't support cbr/cbz but you can use Calibre to convert them into an acceptable format.
>>57997615
how about just .zip? though i guess that's pretty much what .cbz is.

How the fuck does it matter.
I made a nice little app and people liked it.
I published the source under a copyleft license and then guess what, I find it online stripped of all the links back to me and no credit.
I don't like open source anymore.
send in detectives, send in police, send in everything in your POWER
or just send them a message and ask that they comply with the license, if they don't send the host (probably github) a DMCA and have it taken down

So, I'm pondering if you /g/entlemen could help me out, I'm wondering on what fans shall I replace the default ones with for the corsair cooler and maybe even the default fans of the Fractal Design Define S Midi ?
Here are the specs
CPU - Intel Core I5-6600K
Motherboard - MSI Z170A TOMAHAWK Intel Z170 S 1151
GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC
PSU - Cougar GX V3 800W '80 Plus Gold' Modular
RAM - Team Group Elite 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Dual Channel
CPU Cooler - Corsair Hydro Series H80i v2
HDD - WD Blue 2TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache
SSD - Kingston 240GB SSDNow UV400
Case - Fractal Design Define S Midi (No Window)
I was wondering on Noctua, but through better research there seems to be mixed opinions of it.
So, I'm here, a humble man, asking for an advice.
Thank you for your time
>>57996927
you don't really need to replace the fans, but if you really want to go with Noctua. Expensive, but worth it.
>>57997109
Which series would you recommend then ? As I've been told that there has to be specific pressure type on certain fans to improve the performance for the water radiators otherwise it doesn't get utilized fully.
Also, thank you for the reply
I wouldn't replace cooler fans generally. Fitting new one's can be difficult. Instead buy a powerful cooler that is quiet from the start.
Case fans can be worth replacing if you're going for a quieter build but much of it depends on the case's noise isolation properties.
Good brands are Noctua, BeQuiet! Silent Wings, Thermalright (or maybe those new magnetic Corsair ones).
Hi there /g/, I hope you're all doing well this morning and are up for a reasonable discussion.
We live in an era where the average citizen is now well aware of the fact their government is watching them. Yet the average citizen, at least in the US, still continues to freely give their personal information away through social networks and more. Most people shrug their shoulders and say "well, I'm not doing anything illegal, so what does it matter?"
IMHO, I find this to be a difficult argument to counter without coming off as a blatant fear monger. Because in truth, most people DON'T do anything illegal, and the immorality of their private actions is subjective. I've seen people here talk about private lives being brought to light to public embarrassment and ruin. South Park, even in satire, gave a fantastical example of what would happen.
But let's assume for a moment John/Joe Doe doesn't do anything illegal, or immoral. How do you explain to these kinds of people, in simple terms, why anonymizing themselves and PC security is so important?
I'm open to all suggestions and discussion on the topic. Let's keep it civil.
This has all been covered a thousand times but the short answer is to protect yourself from change.
It's a slippery slope, once we lay down and surrender our right to privacy what's next?
>>57996875
>>57996879
Both bring up quality points. However, in regards to change, I feel that's a difficult point to bring up as well-most people are quite used to changing technology. For most now, especially in urban areas, most people access the internet through their tablet or phone, which they rotate annually. "change" is scary regardless of it's form, but when it comes to tech, most view it as something to be excited about rather than fear. In my experience at least, only the elderly fear technological change.
What are you fämälämäzoids getting yourself on christmas?

Also maybe get ipad
