The Mac experience cannot be beaten by any operating system. Try and refute this
I tried it for 3 years. Still prefer the unbeatable debian experience. Try and refute this.
It's true. No other operating system offers such a shitty experience.

That's what you get with a female CEO.

I'm talking about AMD's stream where they showed Ryzen. It had all those elements described in the OP. The woman in the picture is the CEO of AMD.
what did you expect? they had to cherrypick scenarios that hid the fact that zen only has clock for clock perf equivalent to sandy bridge while making it appealing to gaymers.

What are you working on, /g/?
Previous Thread: >>58002845
Reiterating question:
How difficult would it likely be to write a custom Desktop Environment for BSD?
And what libraries would I need to use? Assume I want to primarily write it in C++ with OpenGL.
Can it be written as standalone, so that its only interaction with the Shell would be through passed Shell commands, and it just overlays itself over everything else (so, theoretically, you could close the DE, and you're left with the CLI behind it)?
Such as, double-clicking an icon on the desktop sends cd [whatever the directory is] and receives ls -a and you know, like then prints it to the screen and stuff?
In other words, not based on the X-Window System, but purely its own application?
In general, I guess my real question is: how would I go about writing a graphical application that can handle physical screens, and that is NOT a derived piece of software, but its own program reliant on nothing but its own libraries - functionally, its own API?
How much would I need to personally fuck with drivers? Assume a driver exists for, idk... an AMD Sapphire graphics card.
So, I have the driver, I have all the standard UNIX C libraries, I have 3 monitors, OpenGL, and I have a lot of time.
Is there anything else I'd need, or is that pretty much it, just look at the return values for the GPU, and use them to define things like screen size and rotation for the DE?
How do I make my own programming language and virtual machine like Python?
>>58009022
Haskell is really good for writing programming languages in
Start by defining the structure of your program, expressions, declarations, syntax etc
A simple example:data Expr =
Var String
App Expr Expr
Abs String Expr
-- e :
-- x
-- e e
-- \x.e
data Declaration = Declare String Expr
-- x = e

may someone recommend me a good word processor and something similar to mspaint (has to be light weight)? also, any other suggestions are welcome
thanks
>good word processor
LibreOffice is fine if you need a replacement for Word. Kate is fine for a Notepad replacement. Emacs is fine if you need an IDE.
>something similar to mspaint
You're kind of fucked here. I know GNU has something similar, but it's kind of shoddy. I haven't tried the other options (GNOME has something similar, too), so maybe you'll have better luck with those.
>inb4 someone says GIMP
>>58008849
ugh, how do i sudo apt-get Kate on Windows?
>>58008823
Good word processor: LibreOffice. Free as in freedom and in price.
something similar to MSPaint: GIMP is good imo.

I dont know
Backup asap
>Police are abusing your rights
>You have your phone on you
>You could see this becoming a huge case on the news
Let's say you need an app that could
1. Easily record the situation
2. Transmit it somewhere automatically
3. Be able to retrieve it even if the officers wipe your phone or "lose it"
I've been wondering what to do in a scenario like this. I'd just whip out my camera app built into my phone and there we go, but that's not failproof.
>>58008671
Use a Autobackup app or google botnet backup to automatically sync folders/pictures
Open up Facebook Live or something like that. Have it sent to a friend or on your wall and deal with it later. People will save it for ya.
>>58008835
Or this. Hopefully it syncs before the officer from the country you know he's likely to be from if he's willing to delete it deletes it.

Is there anyway to convert the songs on my cd to mp3 format? I just want quality music, dawg.
>>58008475
Read the sticky.
It's not extremely hard and not worth it anymore. Modern CDs come equipped with gps trackers that trip if you try to copy music to your PC from the CD which will result in an FBI raid. Trying to remove the hard to spot trackers will also result in an FBI raid.
Just buy your shitty music on spotify or something, you can't be THAT poor.

Well fuck, sorry to waste your time.
do you use battery saver mode all the time for your phone /g/?
>>58008439
No.
I bought a phone with a 6000mAh battery so nothing will hold me back from using it to the fullest potential Android can provide.
I used to. On my old phone keeping the brightness all the way down was no issue, my new phone's screen is worse and needs to stay at ~25% so battery saving mode's a no go. Sucks too because I didn't need it on my old phone, could actually use it on my new one.
my Z3C has actually died from water damage.
is there any way to somehow access the files from the phones internal memory in terms of dismantling the phone and whatnot?
>>58008384
desolder memory chip and put it in another Z3C ;^)
>>58008402
oy vey! i had a bad feeling i would have to resort to that.
>>58008402
is there any cheaper way to access files from a desoldered chip?
I got scammed by Newegg and they don't care.
I saw a good deal on an SSD, perhaps TOO good, and ordered it and my Order Confirmation says that I ordered that SSD. Then when it arrived the SSD was lower capacity than what I had ordered and I found that they had changed the name of the listing on me. I spoke to Newegg's support and they completely denied that there was ever a listing name change at all.
Be careful, they can "bait and switch" scam you and they don't give a shit. I'm not buying from Newegg ever again.
>>58008321
What, did you buy a 500GB SSD only to find out it was only 489.545253GB?
Because that happens all the time
Post order confirmation. Also if you've a credit card you can forward the order confirmation to them and Newegg's response to your complaint and your credit card company will shit a brick.
