Do you buy your desired technology on its release day or do you wait until someone decides to upgrade and nab the used goods on ebay or the equivalent for cheap? Pros? Cons? Stories?
used or chinked if possible. its about the hunt.
>>58010052
I got the gtx 260 for 15 bucks, it is tested and it's a bargain
I will not be spending thousands of dollars in something I have to upgrade the next years
>>58010052
Buying things on release day is the most retarded thing you can possible. On release day, things are guaranteed to suffer from
>overhype
>overpricing
>buggy, incompatible with existing hardware
>lack of adequate/unbiased benchmarks and measurements
>lack of knowledge about flaws and how to cope with them
Give tech some time to mature so other idiots and early adopters can work out all the kinks and figure out all of the flaws for you. Then buy it once you have a better idea of everything wrong with the product.
Plus, price of new tech drops quickly. Even just a year can cut a price tag in half. IMO it's not so much about the price as it is about knowing which products are a piece of shit, though.

Great OS
I'd just like to interject for a moment; What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I learned some C#, what can I do with it now?
Basically, I've gone through this:
3. Creating First C# Program
4. Dissecting C# Program
5. Quick Overview of the Visual Studio IDE
6. Declaring Variables and Assigning Values
7. Branching with the IF Decision Statement and the Conditional Operator
8. Operators, Expressions and Statements
9. FOR Iterations
10. Creating Arrays of Values
11. Creating and Calling Simple Overloaded Helper Methods
12. WHILE Iterations and Reading Data From a Text File
13. Working with Strings
14. Working with DateTime
15. Understanding and Creating Classes
16. Understanding Object Lifetime
17. Understanding Inheritance in the .NET Framework Class Library 18. Understanding Namespaces and Adding References to Assemblies
19. Understanding Scope and Utilizing Accessibility Modifiers
20. Enumerations and the switch Decision Statement
21. Gracefully Handling Exceptions
22. Working with Collections
23. Filtering and Managing Data Collections Using LINQ
24. Understanding Event-Driven Programming
But have no idea what to do with it? What the hell am I supposed to do now or go from here?
What am I supposed to do in programming by knowing C# and C++ (which I'm going to study enxt). I've learned something that I have no idea where it is used.
Help me out on this please.

>in 2004 we had phones with internet browsers and holographic capabilities
>it's almost 2017 and everyone has a wide flat touch screen and no extra features
What the fuck happened?
B-but VR is the future, aanon?
Powerful operating systems, LTE, widespread encryption across large storage, seamless cloud storage, faster charging, wearable technology, AR/VR, unlimited calling and texting near ubiquitous in America (the few people who had either in 2004 paid a fuckload for that), amazing cameras, biometric security, NFC-based payment platforms...
The list goes on. What was your point exactly?
>>58010253
That modern phones can't make holographic messages anymore.

Holy shit, it's 2016 and there still doesn't exist a single decent media player. I guess I'll keep streaming until something decent shows up.
Use MadVR and Reclock with Mpc-hc.
It's magic.
>>58009784
i dont want my graphics card running at 80% while i watch videos and i'm surely not gonna watch films with fan noise at 50 db
>>58009879
I use Reclock and MadVr with some pretty nice filters and scaling algos and only see 3%ish GPU usage at idle clocks, about %12ish CPU usage.
Thats with 720p to 1080p 10bit animoo with debanding, dithering, super res, scaling... Etc.
Results may be different for use but most of the filters aren't crazy demanding. Also use MadVR from a couple versions back or the one included in KCP, as the GPU loads is less, at least for me.
Just got a new 4k display. Win7 scaling sucks, so I want to run 1080p 60hz. I had it working at first, but I was dicking around with the Windows settings and Nvidia control panel settings, and I cannot seem to get 60hz to work now on anything higher than 720p.
Any ideas?
windows 10 does an okey job for scaling 150% on 4k, it wouldnt be eligible without it, beit a few apps like teamspeak dont scale.
most smartapps and windows games are ok on 4k too
(p.s. i used to hate dpi scaling)
>>58009698
I really don't care about running at 4k or scaling right now, I just can't stand the 30hz jerkiness. I can't figure out why 1080p 60hz worked earlier but not anymore. Ive reinstalled the gpu driver without any luck.

It just depends on the processor.
E.g. the 2016 MBP configured with i7-6820HQ has vPro and thus iAMT.

I have a Mac at work and Linux at home and one of the top things that I miss from macOS is PiP mode. Basically, you can detach any HTML5 video from any webpage and you can overlay it on the screen and have it visible at all time. I find that incredibly useful when studying some new shit.
What would be needed to implement something like this under Linux?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zody9B1Nvc
Its already there. Just open the video with mpv (better with fixed size option) and make the window float atop.
Its macOS that never had this functionality and then messed with the the thirdparty support for floating windows.
Or use a tiling vm. If you need DRM support you should kill yourself.
