What are the most secure messengers for PC and smartphones with a real secure end-to-end encryption etc? I dont want anyone, neither the goverment, nor the developers, nor any third party to be able to read, see or hear my stuff.
Also: Against a small fee i'm using my neighbors internet connection. How can I protect myself against possible sniffing or in other words, how can I make it impossible for him to see what I'm doing on the internet?
Everything related to this topic is appreciated.

Post your stupid question here. Use a search engine before.
my question: (same as previous OP actually)
i just got help wtih someone via discord but we hit the point where it's likely a firmware/driver issue; basically how do i get arch to connect via wifi if both wifi-menu and networkmanager say that my nic has authentification and dhcpcd gave out a lease, the kernel driver/firmware is the right type, yet i can't ping shit, neither my router interface nor google dns? i even did syslog
i have an ip in ip addr, it's just odd.

Why is this book considered so great?
it abstracts away syntax and focuses on using logical deduction to solve problems, which helps make your skillsets more flexible to any future language.

Any more books I can read on the train without any computer near me that will improve my problem solving/programming skills?
Were they ever able to unfuck their shit?

It was pretty great until it became popular in 2014 and 2015 when it become popular to blog about the DeepWeb and how horrifying it is, while in the truth is it pretty just cancer like the OpenWeb, but just not as structured (with CP, and rape).
Yes

Pretty smart, though I wouldn't use it for a while.
How realistic is the movie cliche of a hacker being able to hack nearby electronic devices on the ground within a few minutes of concentrated work?
eg: group find a locked security door, hacker whips out a laptop and hacks it open while spouting techno-gibberish
I was under the impression that 99% of "hacking" is running scripts that other people have made against hundreds of thousands of indiscriminate targets until you get lucky, not so much a specific, improvisational skill.

>>58094571
I don't know a single thing about hacking or programming but from what I see and read it seems to be divided into different areas based on method, a bit like a fisherman:
So mass deployment of your malware vs a crowd of targets, a bit like a malicious version of product marketing for deployment. A bit like laying net traps and checking them in the morning with one simple bait for the fish in that area.
Then specific fish catching requires you learn about your desired catch, its habits, its location, its preferred food and then fishing in the right weather, at the right time, using the approach tailored to your knowledge of the target outside of the actual catch.
Then randomly throwing your line out at sea with all different bait and seeing what you can get and that being reward itself.
Is windows 10 shit?
Pretty much.
It's aight. You gotta jump a lot of hurdles if you want remotely any privacy though.

Uh, you don't get to bring friends.
So I get a call from my mother saying that she just got off the phone xfinity internet. Apparently she was told she had 66/1000 GB left for this month. She also said that they were going over all sorts of organizations that stomp out internet piracy. And that there will be repercussions or fines if they detect any misuse or infringement.
Needless to say I looked into it and it turns out my younger brother got a new computer for Christmas and was re downloading all of his steam games.
I'm actually really pissed and have half a mind to tell them off so this doesn't happen again. My mother was extremely confused and distraught over the phone. Would I be in the right? Can they send ultimatums without any evidence just to intimidate costumers in to policing their data usage? I feel like this shit is specifically targeting uneducated subscribers so that they ignorantly crack down on other people overusing data.
My brother who is also computer illiterate (cannot differentiate between a cpu and a gpu let alone figure out torrenting) got in a shit load of trouble and was told that if they were fined she was going to return the computer.
They have a rule set in place, wether the people are computer literate or not it still has to be followed
That being said data caps are bullshit

>Apparently she was told she had 66/1000 GB left for this month.
HAHAHA! American problems
*downloads 1 TB in 3 hours with my $20 per month internet and just deletes it for the heck of it"*
>>58094376
I'm saying that instead of a notification of low data, like cell data plans, they went out of their way to call my mother and "educate" her that high data usage is suspicious for torrenting. It's like if someone is monitoring how often you fill up your car. If they see you get gas often they confront you and inform you that street racing or speeding is illegal without anything else to go by. Now imagine they badger a 60 year old woman about this.
Have any of you tried Bitcoin Mining, and is it worth it?
Do you have to be a mathmatician for it? Also why does the more computer power matter?
>>58094301

no

It's too late unless you got a 100k setup to mine BTC
>>58094301
Buttcoin mining isn't profitable unless you have mad dosh already.
Said money being used to build a huge ASIC server farm since it is the only way to make any money.
More to the point, the reason you can't make money on small setups is because the power you will be burning through will cost you way more than the gains from Buttcoins.
Sure, you could mine if you want to. You'll not get a decent return off that single coin for years, if ever.
Unless you gave totally renewable power, don't waste time.
Just buy them with real money and watch those fucking charts like a hawk for the ups and downs.
Feels fucking great. I know I'm running babby's first linux on my desktop and Fedora on my thinkpad.....but it feels good. I've been using Windows since Win95. I tried Mandrake Linux back in the early 2000's but I was too technically inept at the time to figure out how to get the drivers working for my hardware. I've been dabbling with Linux off and on, only dual-booting or using VMs and never fully jumping straight in so that I would start learning. But I've finally done it, and it feels fucking good. Fuck Windows and the fucking spying bullshit, that's the biggest reason I left.

Off the "Web"
Hello frien/g/ds. I am working on gradually getting away from using the Web (as we know it) for everyday tasks. I have configured multiple servers in my home and on VPS to assist me. For instance, I save almost all of my personal files in a private server and utilize an sftp connection to retrive, rather than using google drive, etc.
Recently I've been investigating altenative Internet systems (such as pic related) and I am curious if any of you use any alternative systems or services to avoid common websites and corporate surveilance, etc.
I feel like this whole idea will start to come back in a big way once net neutrality has been gutted here in the US.
Any info or personal stories will be greatly appreciated.
I guess i should also mention I make use of a private email server a lot of the time, as well as a VPN account. (Generally these go without saying IMO but feel free to chip in if you have a comment on that).
You know, I've been trying to do this too. You're not alone.

>I save almost all of my personal files in a private server and utilize an sftp connection to retrive, rather than using google drive, etc.
If you don't physically control the server or encrypt all the data this will not stop governments.
>Recently I've been investigating altenative Internet systems (such as pic related) and I am curious if any of you use any alternative systems or services to avoid common websites and corporate surveilance, etc.
Freenet is really slow but would be really useful in a dystopian scenery. Tor and i2p are usually better options.
>I feel like this whole idea will start to come back in a big way once net neutrality has been gutted here in the US.
Fortunately I don't live there. But I don't think it will change much, snowden leaks didn't at least.
