Is Solus The Best Desktop Distro Currently For Linux Beginners?

I Set It Up For A Friend Recently Who Got Tired Of W10 Fucking His Shit Up And He's Really Liking It So Far. Looks Like It's Even More Difficult To Break Than Mint Or Ubuntu, Really Stable, Has What Most Normies Will Need Already Installed Or Available In The Repos, And It's So Much Faster.
I Had To Go Over A Couple Of Times For Shit Like Setting Up His Printer, But It's Been A Flawless Experience So Far.

There is nothing compelling whatsoever for me to use Solus. Why should I?
>>
>>58110359
Are you looking for a stable distro that much werks, is fast, efficient, and stable while also being bleeding edge and having optimisation's no other distro does?

If the answer to that is no, then you have no compelling reason whatsoever to use Solus.

Hey /g/ graphic designer, photographer, videomaker here.
I might update my laptop and can't decide between another macbook, not the last one with the touchpad but rather a 15" retina (current laptop is apple) or a Windows Surface Book.

Apart the applememe, is the surface good enough for my needs ? I game a little too and 3D is more and more used in my workflow.

I recently got the chance to try out the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil in my graphic design class & tried drawing some stuff in the Procreate app. It felt fantastic, and it really got me thinking.

I'd love to invest in this device, considering I love to draw and the experience the iPad Pro gave me felt pretty great, but are there any tablets out there that can deliver a similar drawing experience at a lower cost?

(I don't mean like dedicated drawing tablets, I already own one, but just standard tablets like a Galaxy Tablet and the like)

I have an iPad Pro currently, and it's pretty great. I'm typing this on it.

As far as tablets similar to it go, the best you're going to get is one of the Galaxy Tab models with a digitizer. It's admittedly been a while, but I had a Note Pro 12.2 at one point, and I was less than impressed. It had low pixel density, mediocre battery life, and generally questionable build quality all around. The only apps that really supported digitizers were the apps Samsung pre-installed, and it was a relatively onerous process to export files created in those apps to other apps. Also, the S Pen felt too small, and generally like a flimsy throwaway item. It may work for the Note phones, but it was just too small and insubstantial for a tablet.

So, yeah, other tablets with this functionality technically exist, but I wouldn't recommend them.

Tell me what you think about this:
>computer has rom chip installed (sata or pcie)
>milestone os stored in that rom
>computer boots from os rom
>sets aside some ram for a virtual hard drive
>os loads into ramdrive
>os performs integrity & sanity checks on self
>user may upgrade os running entirely in ram
>os prompts user to opt for or against net-distributed updates if need be
>no matter what bullshit the user gets into, os rom will never be written to or corrupted
>os will always be fresh & pristine at boot time
>user may choose in the future to trade in current os rom for next milestone os rom

Well, what do you think? This would provide literally bulletproof operating systems which are essentially immune to virii* and very quick.

I'm not sure how pricing would work.

>* immune to virii with exceptions including but not limited to that weird bootsector shit and whatnot whereby a virus may hang out in unpowered ram or whatever

I've had the same laptop since 2012, it has worked quite well running games with quality up to Skyrim but it started giving up this year and I want to upgrade to another laptop where I can play games (I dont mind if I can't play the latest games on ultra) and also use it in class for university, so I don't want it to be too bulky or heavy. My budget stands under 1000€. I've managed to find two pretty decent options imo: https://www.amazon.com/K501UW-AB78-15-6-inch-Full-HD-Gaming-Glacier/dp/B01DT49XN8 and https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GL72-6QD-001-NOTEBOOK-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01AC40ODQ/?tag=tdrvr-20&th=1
I'd like to know which one is the best option or if there is an even better option. Thanks!

Dont waste your time if you're just going to say you can't play games on a laptop, not going to argue with u, I just need advice on a high performance laptop that can run games decently enough while being able to be carried to university to work with it.

>Got a Nexus 6P, had it for 13 months
>Pretty great phone overall
>Recently started getting battery issues sometimes only lasting me 2-3 OST hours, compared to 5 when I first got it.
>I'm able to get a free upgrade to a new phone, and technically even get paid for it.
>Can't decide what phone to get next, help!

For those of you wondering how I've got a free upgrade + getting paid for it is because I bought the phone on a 24 month contract from Giffgaff (They only charge you for the phone, and you can buy a sim plan from anyone you wish)
>£450 at launch, plus like £40 interest = 490£ in total spread over 24 months
>Paid off 13 months, and have £210 remaining
>Check Gumtree/Craigslist for prices of used Nexus 6P and it's currently between 250-350
>I can sell my Nexus, pay off the remaining credit and then just buy the new phone from them again and continue paying £20 a month like I always have.

Problem is, what phone should I get? The S7+ Edge looks cool but it's pretty old now, and the S8 should be coming out in March/April, although i heard it's gonna get rid of the 3.5mm jack, which is stupid unless they improve the battery life to like 9 hours OST.

Replace the battery, that's what i would do.
>>
I'd wait until the S8 comes out and see how it looks, otherwise you could consider the iPhone 7 as high end choice
>>
Tbh not worth upgrading, you get literally nothing new with a new phone, 6p even has android N.
