I'm looking for some advice on what CPU to get for my new gaming rig, my budget for the CPU will be around $400 (not including cooler) and I'm not sure weather to invest in an intel CPU now, or to wait and see if AMDs new Zen CPU will be any good, suggestions?
TLDR: Get Intel CPU Now? Or Wait for Zen? If Intel, which one?
Also, CPUs Thread.
Grab a 7700K in January.

Sweet, I'm looking at it now. I will definitely consider this, do you have hogh hopes for AMDs Zen CPUs or will they continue to be subpar?
Anything from the 7th Generation Intel Coreā¢ lineup should suit your needs my friend!
Tried to post earlier, said I was banned. Tried to post again it said isp range had been blocked. Tried again and it said I was banned but for a different reason than the first time. Wtf?

It's magic, Joel. It's magic.
Anythink used to do work that is not a simple machine.
Thoughts?
he's right about linear algebra but you still need discrete math
You don't even need basic math skills tbqh. It's sedentary blue-collar work.
It's fun to learn math through encountering programming problems that need it. Like for the motion estimation to make slow motion videos. The amount of mathematics in these methods is very high. You can also just use the library that already has it, but when you want to make your own algorithm for this then there's a lot of math.

Im thinking of getting a 1080 this christmas. Is it worth buying or waiting another few months (I'm not waiting more than 3-5 months) to see If anything better comes out or something new gets announced?
>>58116267
>tfw bought a 1080
>tfw not even gonna use it for games only 3d rendering
Well 1080ti is coming some day, but there isn't any release day or even a proper announcement for it yet. It'll probably be available for purchase in spring.
RX 490 is coming soon too but it'll compete against 1070 rather than 1080.
>>58116267
Well the 980 owners got royally fucked when the -ti dropped, so I assume it will be the same this time around also.
hey /g/, I've got a collection of about 320000 images that I want to organize with tags (sort of like a booru but all local). What's the best way to do this? If you're recommending software, please stick to libre options.

>>58116263
yes I know, can you please answer the question
>>58116293
Sorry bro I don't have one, one most likely doesn't exist or else I'd be using it. I recommend just setting up a directory heiarchy to sort your images.

Crammed into its new home. Was split between this or 1070 card. Took the $220 savings instead. 1080p 60hz monitor atm.
Nah, that's the perfect 1080p card and a solid 1440p card.

What's better, a full blown desktop environment or just a window manager? Is the only difference the fact the DEs provide special utilities?
Is there any real benefit to using only a window manager?
More flexible and customizable.
>>58115738
It depends on the user and its taste. Thou with a bare bones window manager you can get low resource usage, my wm uses about 1mb of ram while things like KDE goes close to 1GB I think.
For people just starting is nice to have a default set of tools, like a file manager with USB hotplug preset, or a network manager.
When you want change things in a DE is when you need to be careful of not erasing all the defaults. That is why ricers go for bare bones distros like arch or gentoo, because they built from the ground up.
>>58116455
Is that file manager Ranger? What patch do you use to show the images in the terminal?
