Was taught at Oxford that there were two conventions to writing code, basically the British and American way.
The British way used := for assignment, = for comparison, ; to separate sentences of code, and words to delimit blocks of code: if x = y then z := 1 end;
The American way used = for assignment, ==(=) for comparison, ; to end lines of code, and brackets to delimit blocks of code: if x == y { z = 1; }
Obviously the American way won out, arguably for the best.
Any views either way?
>British vs American
No, I think it's more "Pascal vs C", although there are earlier languages that use that notation.
>>58120464
The British way is probably easier for someone who doesn't program to read; however, the american way looks much cleaner imo
>>58120464
I am British. Fuck the British way of doing anything.
Rate my Fedora 25 desktop.
is this the new desktop thread

Given that torrenting is becoming harder and more dangerous every day, my plan next year is to step up my security / anonymity as using just VPN / Seedbox does not seem safe anymore (after all, VPN / seedbox are the same providers as ISP). My plan is
1) Buy bitcoins offline (either from a person for cash or from one of those Bitcoin ATMs)
2) Pay for all services (seedboxes, invites into trackers) with those bitcoins
3) Register / browser the trackers and my seedbox's web interface via Tor
4) When it want to download something to my machine, do it from a public WiFi spot (Starbucks, McDonald's etc.)
Obviously, I wouldn't reuse my bitcoin wallet and I would dump it after every transaction and I would have to change the public places I log into my seedbox from.
I know that some trackers require to browse their websites with your real IP. I am perfectly happy staying off those trackers (meaning that cabal is out) and using some more obscure / less popular ones.
>inb4 seedbox / VPN are safe, they don't keep any logs, look at their ToS
Even if they say that they don't keep the logs, they still do as that is required by the law. Also, there's no way of verifying that they actually don't. Since Seedbox / VPN providers are very similar to ISPs, it means that DMCA notices would be sent to them first, then to my actual ISP and then to me. If I pay in bitcoins that are untraceable and never login with my home's IP address, there wouldn't be a way to identify me, meaning I wouldn't get a DMCA notices
>inb4 bait
No. I would like to hear if anyone would see a flaw in my plan and if there was any way to trace the activities to me.
>>58120426
bit coins are not secure at all. every transaction you make is public.
>>58120470
They are still anonymous since they can't be tied to me as long as I used cash to buy them in the first place.
>>58120426
Use debrid my man. It's cheaper and more secure. You can also dl torrents with it.
There's no DMCA notices on DDL
What happens to the internet when normies finally figure out they can block adds? How are websites going to find money to exist?
4chan is already going bankrupt because no one here clicks on adds.
>>58120180
>he fell for the 4chan is bankrupt meme
>21yo
>looks 50
>>58120180
Then they'll ban ad blockers, duh.
Hello /g/
I am Rajaa from M$ Advertising Team.
I am wondering would you play a game in which you control Indian clickfarm. The core gameplay will be shilling, scamming and clicking ads on the internet
Hello Rajaa
This is very nice idea indeed I am looking forward to it.

If you shit in the loo will you die?
>>58120116
This actually be funny as shit.
Deep Learning general.
What is anon working on?
>/g/ in charge of neural networks
Machine translation. There are some papers around, but my actual research question is "Is Google able to do it because of money and the specialized hardware they had order made or is their implementation much better?". I even attended the speech of the chief engineer of the team, but obviously he said nothing about the meat, only talked about fluff.
>>58122665
They indexed the entire internet and can pay for the best language experts. Also, they used to use vector equipotent(or whatever it's called in English).
How can FOSS compete?
It's like a comparative between a legless retarded doggo against a panzer III.
GIMP > PS
>>58119991
you are basically asking how can a hillbilly garage owner compete with ferrari?
free software is so advanced that people actually take them seriously.
Hey /g/ can you be please tell me how much this Packard Bell Platinum is worth. Also the exact model and more info on it would be amazing, thanks in advance /g/.
>>58119970
It's worth it's space
I trust you /g/uys more with this because you're the ones which wet yourselves over weird secret clubhouse stuff like programming geniuses nobody has ever heard of or PC rig combos nobody would think of assembling together.
So an old PC from a company nobody has ever heard of(unlike Apple and IBM) should be right up your alley, /g/.
>>58119970
i would give you $10 for that supermarket shitbox if you replaced that ass yellowed CD burner with a properly date/bezel matched drive
Hey /g/
I was being a faggot and searching "#"chan, to see what came up.
Once I got to 10chan, I was surprised, because it looked like a russian site with actual cp on it. I clicked a couple of libks and all I got was ads, though.
So what is 10chan, and am I in any danger of getting v&?
>>58119923
Bumping this thread because I don't want to get v&
If it looks like there's actual CP on it why are you even asking? I mean even if it's not technically illegal in its host country, why would you want to keep using it? Are you a pedophile?
>>58119923
report it to the FBI
So /g/, I'm trying to make a competent decision on drive encryption for my workplace.
Currently we are using McAfee Endpoint Encryption which so far has worked fairly well. Now with the introduction of Windows 10 machines we are working overtime on shitty compatability issues and odd problems. (OS not starting after encryption has been logged into etc.).
I am thinking of switching to Bitlocker for all the new Windows 10 PCs, does anyone have experience with Bitlocker compared to other solutions? Does it hold up?
Thanks in advance.
>>58119868
Install cryptolocker instead.
>>58119884
Nice, but I actually need the employees to be able to access their data.
>>58119868
>I'm trying to make a competent decision
And you ask on 4chan of all places?
You already failed so hard I can't even bother to your bait any further.
which one do you use and why?
inb4 >mobile users
some people actually have jobs and it is much more comfortable to browse 4chin on a smartphone while commuting or during a break
>>58119798
>apps
It's a web site, why would you need something other than browser?
>>58119823
>making your own food
it's food, why would you need anything other than fast food?
clover
shit is so comfy that i actually spend more time now browsing 4chan on my phone than on my pc
If you use the layout on the right, you're an asshole.

What's the best CMS?
Everyone I know keeps memeing Wordpress but everyone over 30 seems are Drupal shills at full force.
Perch looks cute but it's not really free so I dunno if the "it's easy as shit :^)" alone can justify the price tag.
I already know enough HTML/CSS/JS to make static sites but I feel I need to learn a CMS eventually.
Wordpress is easiest.
If you want to go full control backend then learn django and use https://www.django-cms.org/en/
they're all fine if you update them. Do not fall for framework timesinks, you will never make a site that way, if that was your actual goal.
CMSes are tools you use to build sites quickly because sites are business ideas, nobody wants to spend months to build a platform just to find out nobody wants it. making your own cms is timesink shit which you do to fill the void of not having a real business idea, and will never, ever go anywhere.
Joomla, though it's sad to see it slowly die out. It has the perfect balance between WordPress simplicity and Drupal customization.
