I just bought my first ThinkPad (well i had a T42p like 10 years ago for a short while on loan, but the first one on purpose)
I got an ex corporate X230 (i5, 8gb, IPS, 128gb SSD) for 160€ and what the fuck this thing flies.
I replaced an almost 3 yr old HP ENVY DV7 with this thing - the ENVY was 1400€ new (i7, 8gb, Nvidia 630M etc, no SSD - had to get that aftermarket) and this is a non-competition when it comes to performance - The ThinkPad outperforms the theoretically better HP in every way, including Photoshop performance. I think that the HP was throttled, and it has some major heat issues (has always had, the CPU temp gets to 100 degrees celcius, HP support thinks this is normal.)
The X230 barely uses its fans.
My question is, are Thinkpads really this good in value, or was the HP just really bad engineering and components?
P.S. Thank you /g/reybeards for recommending ThinkPads, I am really happy with this.
The envy is /consumershit/ - a throttled piece of crap with a high pricetag and planned obsolence
>>58124443
I have been a ThinkPad user for a long time and have always been very happy with the price to performance ratio they provide. Sure they are not as pretty as Apple or Dell or HP consumer pieces of shit but fuck man are they solid and perform well. My only complaint about them has been the wank screens they used to use. However you can get all the modern ThinkPads with excellent screens these days so it isn't an issue anymore. Plus they still have the best keyboards of any laptop. Some oldfags will moan about the newer ThinkPad keyboards but the reality is they are still excellent.
>>58124691
Firstly, it's obsolescence. Secondly, planned obsolescence is assumed for all computer parts anyway. Period. Thirdly, you're right, it is overpriced and crap.
how do you protect yourself against linux hackers?
>>58124410
I use Windows of course!
Linux hackers can't possibly hack an OS they aren't familiar with. Touche' freedomfags!
keep software up to date
don't click links that tell you to update passwords in emails
use an antivirus
don't pick up usb sticks you find and see what is on them.
keep two accounts on your computer, make your regular account not have admin privileges, just run as admin or sudo to make changes that need admin
don't install dodgy software from non reputable places.
Make sure your computer screen locks & lock when you are away.
Try not to use wifi in coffeeshops/airports & if you do, route through a vpn.
That would cover most of your problems.

What do you like about Linux, honestly?
For me it's more stable, doesn't hog my ram for needless background tasks, no telemetry, less likely to get viruses or malware, and my hard drive doesn't sit there grinding for no god damn reason at all. I use Steam and still enjoy some vidya like CS:GO. I also like the fact that if a program crashes, which is rare, it doesn't take the entire OS down with it. I don't have a problem with people using windows, I did for years, but Linux just works better for my needs.
Only thing I could fully install on a usb flashdrive.
if skullgirls crashes on linux, you can rest assured that you'll be logging out. kill pid does nothing.
>>58124395
>What do you like about Linux, honestly?
It does whatever I want and nothing I don't.
Something that no other OS can seem to grasp. I don't want your bullshit AI search engine. I don't want your half-assed attempt at a file manager. I don't want your horrible web browser.
I want what I want the way I damn well want it.
What's the best way to get Windows 10 on a newly build desktop without paying for it?
Windows 7 I used to just install from .iso and run WAT Removal, but I haven't messed with Windows 10 yet so I'm not sure.
Should I download the official .iso with the media creation tool, install onto the system, and remove/trick authentication in some way?
Can I install Windows 7 / 8, remove/trick authentication, and then get a legitimate copy of Windows 10 via the upgrade process (assistive technologies program)?
Pic unrelated.
Download official iso, then:
My[opposite of analog]life forums (((microsoft))) toolkit 2.[last digit of $CURRENTYEAR]
Assistive upgrading an older cracked one works too.
>>58124594
Ok, I'll try the assistive upgrade and see how it goes.
What I did was get the .ISO from piratebay and after it installed I downloaded Microsoft Toolkit 2.6.2 from piratebay. Run "EZ-Activation" or whatever it's called and it should activate.

Its already stated to be true. Once general AI becomes close to human level, it will be over for humans.

Well personally I can't wait for coal to come back and even if that falls through, someone has to keep the muslim registry secure and taken care of. That's thousands of jobs right there, not to mention the blue collar workers who'll be hired to build that wall.
And don't get me started on the military work we'll get during the race war. America is up for a busy four years!

type keylogger in Wikipedia. read and find company names that sell

If you don't believe in your partner, you might as well break up. It is not worth the effort anymore. Or maybe, just maybe think / talk about what is wrong with you and fix it.

find a keylogger, if he can get through the lock screen it's trivial to get one working

i dont understand this, what will it mean exactly? that places in the middle of nowhere will get guaranteed access to fast speeds? I know even 25km outside of major cities the infrastructure is shit, i just cant see the major providers like rogers and bell upgrading to allow for fast speeds outside the cities
canada's infrastructure is so bad, even poo in the loos have better internet access then us
>>58124095
Happy for the Cunucks but 50mb is hardly something to cheer about. Better than nothing I suppose.
I want to make a desktop app but I also may want to put it on phones later and don't want to port code.
What are cross platform api's that work on desktop (windows 7, 8.1, 10) and also Phones.
Pic unrelated, no Win 7.
>>58124013
Just code it in Java
You will only need to make little visual changes for it to work on all devices
No GUI is going to work remotely similar on both desktop and mobiles, so it's irrelevant.
>>58124013
You can use Kivy if you don't mind coding in python and speed is not the issue. Fast enough for some games to me made in.

Some faggots are telling me that a XFX 650W PSU is not enough for a Sapphire AMD R9 390x Tri-X. What's your opinion?
Rest of the gear:
MSI Z170-A Pro
I5-6600k
8gb ddr4
It'll most likely be fine
I alsorun 6600k with 480X and there isn't a single issue on 620W PSU
>>58123981
Depends on how much amps the rails can provide. Check the PSU specs sheet. I'd say anything greater than 30 would be good, ideally I'd go for maybe 40+ amp, just to be safe. Those 390Xs are power hungry and even more so when OC'd
>>58123981
Bullshit. A good 500W PSU is enough for literally any single GPU card.
