in the future, what will be the reason of having a desktop PC? eGPU enclosures will be cheaper. Why would you want to use a computer fixed in a place, having to sit in the same chair always?

Hey OP,

Fuck off.

Best regards
>>
>>58255055
who wants to walk around with a laptop and a heavy piece of metal that they cant drop or they break something worth >$500, then having to go sit somewhere and requiring a desk to place the dumb thing down anyways, needing two power cords, one for the egpu, one for your laptop, since gaming will kill its battery in a few hours. ok its more portable, but you dont unlock the feature to "play anywhere." youll still be tethered to a desk
>>
>>58255055
eGPU enclosures cannot do SLI, nor can they support the full PCI-E 3.0 16x bandwidth needed to take 100% advantage of any modern video card.

A PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot transfers at exactly 123.125 gigabits per second. A Thunderbolt 3 transfers at 40 gigabits per second. You would literally need 3 thunderbolt 3s to even start to take advantage of a desktop GPU on a laptop.

I have recently bought this. What can I use it for?

I wanted to use it for a flash drive to my router but it does not work apparently.

Snapped them off? You're fucked.

At least the USB3 header is.
>>
>>58255020
Do you need front USB 3.0 ports? If not, then not important at all.
>>
>>58255020
Pretty important.

Hi /g/ can you be nice for a moment and recommend me a good laptop preferably with good screen quality? Macbooks screens look great but apple stuff are for about twice the price I'm willing to pay. I will probably run some linux distribution on it and use it manly for webdev and some programming. Feel free to recommend distribution as well.

Any recommendations then? Please /g/ I don't want to waste money on macflap.
Why it's so simple to build your own PC rig but when it comes to laptops you need to choose from already built company branded laptops.

gmail because I can't be arsed to change my email addresses to new ones if it involves contacting customer support.

Google Maps just works, OpenStreetMaps is neat but finding some places is a bit harder to do.

Can't really get away from Youtube, not logging into my gmail account and not accepting cookies is the best I'll get from that.

So I learned a weird lesson /g/

I have this big 4k samsung tv I got for a monitor, couldn't have been happier with it

But I came back home for the holidays and I'll be here for almost a month, so I brought my rig along.

Well I got here late and left the thing in my back seat in my car overnight, got damn cold. I plugged it in the next day and it was all sorts of fucked, screen flickering, picture fluctuating, lines, you name it.

Thought I hadn't secured it well enough, so I resigned I was going to have to open the damn thing to try and fix whatever the fuck I loosened in there myself. I thought maybe I even damaged the board so I might have to get a whole damn new one or order the part.

But I left it sitting around, and decided wtf when I got home today after hanging out with my bros and doing /tg/ shit.

Pictures fine and back to normal, absolutely nothing wrong. I'm pretty fascinated the temperature is what did it? That's what I assume.

>TLDR dont leave your electronics in a cold car

Your computer got so cold, ice crystals formed in your CPU tubes and was slowing down the electronic protons from moving around. Once your rig warmed up again, the ice melted and one you put power back on, the electricity instantly evaporated the water inside your CPU.
>>
>>58254796
thanks m8, learned something new today.

Do you know if this might have negative effects on the tv in the future? Or if it could have been worse?

How hard would it be to port notepad++ in Linux, considering the source of npp is open (Looks like it's written in C++ with the boost framework)

Also, which project should I pick?
https://www.strawpoll.me/11997064

Please note that all of those projects are somewhat big for a single dev.
If anyone who is proficient with C, C++, GTK+3, or PyPy please feel free to join me.

Hey, I really need some help right now, trying to find a fucking error that keeps escaping, I keep only getting half the error because it's so large whenever I visit the screen. My VPS is running CentOS and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fucking make it log the screen specifically, it says using Ctrl-A + H will start logging the screen but I get no message and I can't find the god damn log file. This is driving me nuts, I'm only using linux to save cash. Please, be merciful, help me. Happy new year.

Tell us more, when do you get the error? When you boot the machine? When you run some command? At random?

Almost all logfiles are located under /var/log directory and its sub-directories on Linux

Did you try dmesg?

My dad wore out the blades in his planer and now I have them.

They look kind of like this but a lot longer. How do I grind them into a knife shape but without overheating the edge? Also how do I drill holes for rivets? It's made of hard steel and drill bits won't bite into it.

What drill bits did you try? You can get bits specifically for metal. You could use a bench grinder to get the right shape, then file, then honing stone. You're probably better off asking this on /diy/

So no. Give me one language faster and efficient than C except for Fortran or ASM, I'll wait.

What's a good, free VPN client for Linux? Everything on Google is absolute trash. I don't want to waste money on it because it's for one thing only. I don't need it for all of my internet traffic.

On Windows, I just use OpenVPN since it's free, but I can't find a free client for Linux.
