How come so many tech enthusiasts ignore tech shilling?
Is it because most of them are shills themselves? Or are they just naive?
Take for instance the stark contrast between forums with high levels of moderation and forums like /g/ with low levels of moderation.
Hacker News for example is filled with shills for Microsoft, and lots of other proprietary software companies. On /g/ many of us know and understand programming, yet we have an obvious pro-Linux bias.
I think any true programmer would agree that Linux is the best OS for programming and Windows is the worst. Even programmers on OS X and Window are running Linux either through a container or a VM or compatibility layer. That's because Linux has superior package management to any other platform, and because most new and/or open source languages support Linux to a greater extent than Windows and OS X (go, rust, C, C++, Haskell, Lisp, etc). Pretty much the only languages supported on the other operating systems are languages produces by Apple and MS themselves. Ever noticed how .NET gets shilled really hard too?
So why do people just ignore it and not talk about it?
>>58317403
Because most tech literates assume others are aware of tech shilling.
Femanon here.
Well this is a hobby board, and Linux is a hobby OS.
It's like discussing toy trains at a board meeting.

Hello /g/
I just finished playing Dark souls III on my gtx 750ti 2GB.
And after that one fo the fans started making cracking/ticking noise.
I cleaned the card already but right fan is still making that noise.
Should I be concerned? Is it normal for GPU to make that kind of noise ?
>>58317164
Installing Gentoo often fixes this issue.
In other words, fuck off. Not your personal customer support and it's getting pretty tiring.
>>58317199
I will trade my maki collection for your help anon.
Check to see that there is no obstruction. 9/10 times its just a wire touching the fan.
What is the purpose of the 7R & 8R ports on a WebSmart switch
Thanks
Femanon here.
I think those ports have reduced throughput or bandwidth.
R stands for Reduced.

Jerking off, AMD is so fucking incompetent. Intel can do whatever they want and AMD will still be generations behind.
>>58316880
How sad is that? I wouldn't be surprised if Intel has 2 iterations of new processors line up and waiting for any competition. It's a shame it will never come and Intel can keep on jewing everyone.

Hey /g/,
I'm sick of getting locked out of email accounts based on 'security reasons' when I travel around. And I don't want to use my phone number because for example when I travel or get a new phone I can't receive texts at that number anymore, and then I'm fucked. I switched from one of the common ones to to yandex.com because I heard there was no phone number required, but alas after a few days I am randomly locked out and a phone number is demanded.
What's the best free email server that will never ever lock me out or ask for a phone number?
Femanon here.
Idk I use Gmail.
None. They require phone numbers because spammers have long abused the service of free email. Phone numbers are an anti-spam feature.
run an OPENVPN server at home and read email through that noob
