Stop comparing Apple to other companies. You might hate Apple, and there are lots of reasons to, but there are no other companies like Apple, not any more. There used to be, like Sun Microsystems, SGI, Digital and so on. But those companies are all gone. You can blame users like yourselves, Intel and Microsoft for helping to kill an industry full of companies that actually made something, they actually designed something. Integrated, symbiotic, from the ground up. Or nearly the ground anyway. They leveraged technology that made sense because that's what engineers do. They didn't force broken systems and anti-tech down people's throats using business pressure.
Apple makes their own operating system, their own hardware (not their own desktop CPU, maybe one day), their own development tools, firmware, marketplace, drivers, support services and on and on.
So please, don't compare Apple to these other companies that slap together the cheapest, lowest common denominator pieces from all over the place and CALL themselves computer companies. In order to be a real computer company you have to have your hands in every part of the stack.
I used to work for a company that Apple used as a supplier. I liked working with those guys. Their engineers were smart and good at what they did, they were told they had to care about quality. They asked the right questions, they were the last of a dying breed. I could have said the same thing about Sun Microsystems back in the day.
Times have changed and Apple has changed with the times, for better or worse. They still make good devices, but they help others spy on you, for example. From a system design perspective Apple is still doing the things the right way and still making a profit. An offensive amount profit but that's better than being dead. So just understand than when people like me see casuals like you comparing the MacBook Pro to some Dell or Acer computer, your opinion is considered dog shit.

Oh yea I love the Apple graphic card

I know there has been a lot of intel threads lately but i was wondering really how much of a bump up in ipc from a 4790k and a 7700k. I mean is it really worth upgrading for the single core performance, Or is intel just jewing the shit out of people again. I have my 4790k clocked at 4.6 and i really don't know if i should upgrade yet. I mainly use my cpu for rendering so i need the very last ounce of performance i can get. 6 core and up are not an option for me because i game and like my single threads.

this is so stupid it's making my head hurt

Just look up benchmarks you lazy nigger. There's almost no difference
>>
>>58371775
Trading one 4 core for another is not a upgrade. You are a stupid shit if you don't just buy a 5820k or equivalent.

I purchased a 6700k off Amazon a week and a half ago for $340. 7700k is available for $10 more. Am I crazy for considering returning the 6700k and purchasing a 7700k? I have an Asus z170 and a bios update provides support for it.

I'm aware the increase in performance is minimal, almost nonexistance. However I dropped $1600 on this build and it seems silly to not eke out any little bit I can to make it last.

why not if you can wait a few more days. even if it's more of a morally pleasing thing to do than a performance improvement

I have 6700k no regrets; because I'd not buy a Win 10 restricted CPU. I like win 7.

linux on all pc but on one dualboot with windows xp professional 64-bit. I can play fallout 3, and some other old stuff. XP doesn't fuck to much with the application I run but I won't let it connect to the internet.

You'll hate xp though, no drivers for newer pc.

Let's discuss kodi. For people who like using builds what are your favourites?

I've been using the build from koditips,com.com but I'm finding it a bit cpu intensive. Is this normal or should I find something else to use?

why don't you use official kodi or openelec?
>>

>why don't you use official kodi or openelec?
Not sure what openelec is yet but it's just a bit of hassle setting up a fully featured kodi when i don't know that much about it at the moment.
>>
>>58371523
openelec is kodi on top of lightweight linux core, it's the most lightweight you can use, i guess. but i assume you're using kodi on your pc, so it wouldn't make sense dual booting just for kodi.

Anybody else here obsessed with modernizing older hardware? Got this PowerBook G4 and I put Lubuntu 16.04 on it. It actually works just as "good" as OSX 10.04 does, but its actually modern. Currently trying to make it look as close to Yosemite as I can. Tho I cant seem to get the battery monitor and video playback to work. Otherwise everything is in working order.

Anybody else trying to push older hardware to its limits?

nah, I think with 64-bit linux only those people want to force feed you their shit. not supporting xp is also pretty evil, since win7 and up are too spyware. macos...doesn't matter.

Have you read any books or have you just done one of those courses that has you copy syntax over and over? The latter are useless. Read a book.

>>
>>58370990
It sounds like you have zero programming experience. Read a general programming/CS intro book. Python syntax is shit easy. Understanding how to program well takes a bit of work.

Does anyone have experience with obtaining highly overclockable CPUs without paying premiums to places like siliconlottery? What retailers are ideal for buying CPUs, testing their OC limit, then returning until you get a golden one?
