About to decide if I will get this. How is the camera on this thing?
Buy HTC
>>58386286
Who cares about the camera on a smartphone? Are you 12?
>>58386745
Is this a subtle admission that the phone's camera is terrible? This phone is quite expensive so what else should it be pricy for? Everything else about this phone is unspectacular
Can /g/ recommend a good quiet mouse? My current one clicks too loud for the people around me, and I want to be more courteous. I'm only concerned about the sounds form M1 and M2 clicking. I like the style of this one, but I'm seeing people say it has poor battery life and it has an led logo that can't be turned off.

Hyper-V because AVMA.
VMWare because 4GB SD/USB hyper visor install
VirtualBox was good as baby's first VM.

Best way to apply thermal paste?
>>58385958
don't
thermal paste literally does nothing except burn your cpu faster
its a marketing trick
>>58385979
This. Just take some oil and smear it over the CPU, will be way better and cheaper then paste.
>>58386016
oil burns you fucking idiot. use water.
How are these? Are they worth getting? The price is good and the LED variants look pretty awesome. Anyone has any experience setting these up and using them? Thinking of getting either the Gamecube on or the SNES one.

If you already have a GameCube controller just buy the mayflash adapter to use it on PC/Wii U. As for SNES, you should get the Buffalo SNES controller. This is honestly a thread you should have made on /v/ or /vr/

If you start trying to think about a gaming rig as any sort of "investment" you've already missed the point. It's purely for recreation and the enjoyment people get out of it doesn't need to be justified. If someone sacrificed higher end components to get a fancier case and cosmetics then maybe you could make an argument, but some LED strips are only in the range of ~20 USD for a whole case.
> decide to try arch

jesus christ billy what did you do
>>58385730
obviously since this is fresh install you want i3 to copy it's config to your home folder.
I don't see the problem
You must have installed the i3 symbols package op.that's why its all in symbols. Install the regular i3 package
What's the difference between a TV and a Monitor?
My GF wanted me to hook up my small 32" Vizio LED smart TV to my computer so she can watch me play Tomb Raider. To my surprise it actually looked really good and the input lag was nearly identical to my 1080P HP monitor.
Now I understand that a lot of 1080P TVs don't technically have a 1920x1080 panel and do some type of upscaling from a lower resolution. But upon further inspection it seems like this TV does have a full 1080P resolution. I also understand that TVs have a built in tuner.
But why are they significantly cheaper, and what are you missing out on? A 32" 1080P monitor would be well over the $250 price I paid for this TV. Why don't people just buy semi good quality TVs to use for displays instead of monitors?
TVs usually have additional stuff built in like
>speakers
>tuners
>nowadays, operating system
>motion enhancers
>lots more picture and color options
Additionally TVs use different panels, due to different manufacturers.
>>58385738
But why are they cheaper? Obviously some display quality has to be lost, but I don't see any.
Why are monitors so much more expensive?
>>58385724

Input lag, not IPS panels because IPS is worse for color/black level (which matters for movies), different/higher refresh rates. That's it mostly.

>Having to buy a 50 USD cooler for a dual core CPU that already costs 170 USD
For what purpose?
Not even in comparison to AMD but where does the price/perf of this thing fit into intel's current line up?
The cost scaling (~85 USD per core) matches their high end offerings for price/perf of the unlocked i7.
Wouldn't you get better overall performance just buying a lower clocked i5?
I'm really confused about the appeal of this product.

Is there a logical, engineering based reason to manufacture a chip in this day and age that cannot do hyperthreading? Other than for market segmentation reasons, obviously.
Also what, at a fundamental engineering level, enables K series chips to overclock where non-K chips cannot? Is this difference deliberate sabotage contrived by intel to sell K chips at a higher premium?
>>58385607
ARM claims it leads to worse power efficiency
>Is this difference deliberate sabotage contrived by intel to sell K chips at a higher premium?
Yes, locked frequency multiplier
>>58385607
>Is there a logical, engineering based reason to manufacture a chip in this day and age that cannot do hyperthreading?
The added complexity of the additional task schedulers. Everything is built as a Xeon E3 / Core i7. Some have faulty cores, and get binned as i3's, some fail hyper-thread tests, and get binned as i5's.
Sometimes they're disabled just because the market calls for a given CPU.
>Also what, at a fundamental engineering level, enables K series chips to overclock where non-K chips cannot?
At one point yes. I can't recall if it was i7 2600 or i7 4600, but VT-d (Virtualization Technology for directed io) was disabled on the K series CPU's.
Doesn't really matter for a desktop, but for a workstation doing virtualization stuff, it does.
>>58385621
>ARM claims it leads to worse power efficiency
But you can disable hyperthreading on an i7 anyway. Is there any legitimate reason why Intel can't manufacture i7s for the same cost as a similarly binned i5?
How much does /g/ charge their extended family for IT work?
I was thinking of charging a cousin $30 to install a printer
Charge roughly half of what a geeksquad type place would.
don't make the mistake of NOT charging them.
