Could you run a PC off of a snapdragon 821 processor?
>>58416267
I mean, it'll probably be slow. Just use the most lightweight linux distro you can find with a GUI
>>58416267
absolutely
>>58416267
Yes.
With proper cooling you would not run into throttling issues either.
Whats the verdict on free office or other ms office alternates? $150 aud for 1 copy of office is pretty bs
Libreoffice is fine except the macros are nothing compared to MS word
Why do you need it though? If school - you get free keys. If work - same thing.
>>58416274
for home for someone else, im trying to save someone a few dollars. i guess the main thing is comparability with spreadsheets needs to be 100%
>>58416337
OK layout maybe fucked in some ways LO -> word and vice versa
But can you convince them to just switch to libre office?
If it's not needed for work or school then it doesn't really matter. It's just minor nuisances for some very specific things home users won't care about.

Why even have HA as an option if its shit?

>Why even have HA as an option if its shit?
So, you can use it while your GPU is under high load. You answered your own question.
/Thread
Your GPU shouldn't be under high load while browsing.
/thread
>>58416164
I've never had any problem with HA on and a separate high load on the GPU.
Your GPU might be shit

Welcome to /fag/ - friendly apple general. Please post all your apple related questions and shitposts in this thread instead of making 5 different threads every time you want to talk about macs. We are not taking suggestions for a new name. We are, however, taking suggestions for useful hackintosh links and a better OP format.
Hello how do I use iTunes?
>>58415973
Let's be honest here
OSX is the only OS that has no practical value whatsoever. If it stopped existing all of a sudden one day, no one would care.
>Windows
Professional content creators use windows
Office tasks and desktops are on windows
Gamers use windows
A few Servers run on windows
>Linux
IT, sysadmins use Linux
Supercomputers, embedded chip and Android runs on Linux
Linux and FreeBSD has top quality emulation technology
Majority of Servers run on Linux
>Mac OSX
Tech illiterate hipsters that need a shiny facebook machine need OSX
Unironically faggots use OSX even Apple CEO is a faggot and steve jobs was a smelly hipster who thought taking shower is not necessary (Not kidding)
>hurr durr I'm not poor
Buying organic water to prove otherwise is not only dumb but also laughable
Find me ONE reason that validates OSX's existence
PROTIP: You can't
>>58415973
Proof that Windows is spying on you.
Why is this accepted /g/?
because it still works better than linux

Using anime girl names in your code doesn't make your code cute.
Using as few variables as possible and riding undefined behavior's dick while at the same time making your variable names as short as possible is top cute!

What actual advantages does DDR4 have over DDR3 for desktops? Why are the timings such shit? DDR3 is available in many of the same speeds much faster than crappy 16-18-18-38 (literally wtf) timing. The only thing I keep hearing is "higher speeds," but all the speeds faster than DDR3 are OC. No thanks, I don't want to burn up my expensive RAM like a faggot.
I can see using the stuff in laptops cause of lower power consumption, but what actually necessitated the new standard other than extracting more shekels out of goyim?
>>58415763
>I don't know how latency vs bandwidth works: The post
>>58415777
Are you saying DDR3 2666 @ 11 is slower than DDR4 2666 @ 15? Please explain.
>>58415795
So you are saying we should stay with ddr3 until the end of time?
I'm gonna install Arch on a new laptop, but I'm not sure what DE to put on it.Does 4chan have any suggestions?
>>58415540
DEs are for children.
>>58415540
If you wanna go lean, stick with just WMs like i3 or openbox.
Xfce/lxde is good if you want to stick with the arch minimalism meme
WMs too btw
What is objectively the best desk?
>>58415476
a good one
>>58415476
One that you can make yourself which can account for your room space, your needs, your l/w/h, your desired material/quality, and your uses/purposes
>>58415476
That's an Ikea galant, which is a pretty good desk
The best desk is probably a well treated live edge and some really well built legs
Ok /g/ so here's my newest idea. So i recently got a new build with a fractal design s and an rx480. I only have 2 case fans and i was thinking with the average temperatures of around 50 degrees Celsius overall, i could use it to keep warm food. My problem currently is my mom or brother will bring me food and it'll get cold if i put my attention on programming or games and forget about it.
So my question to you /g/ is can this work well? If i put my pc on its side and place a tray over the hard drive racks (on the back in this case), and then reverse the fans so air is brought in from the back and out from the front, could i use this as a 'food heater' of sorts?
>>58415448
>>58415448
I highly doubt this can work, but this is sincerely the most autistic thing I've ever seen on /g/.
Well you did say rx480
You can use one case for the rest of your life
Go!
>>58415432
IBM Server cases >>>>> PC Cases
>30 random posters from /g/ are transported back in time to 1850s in the US
>purpose is to accelerate technology through knowledge already acquired
What would 2017 look like if this were to happen? Let's ignore all the time travel semantics and purpose bullshit for the sake of the question.
Are computers too complicated to make any size able impact in the past? Maybe /g/ is too stupid to bring any change? Thoughts?
>>58415418
Do not listen to this person
Arch vs Gentoo world wars would ensue.
OOP would be ironically adopted as a philosophy and shilled like Islam just to fuck with the world.
>>58415418
Saying that in the future (2017) you have all this cool technology won't help anyone build it in 1850.
You can't build things without the right tools. I could advance theoretical physics / mathematics easily but building the manufacturing equipment to produce modern technology might be beyond me.
Not to mention obtaining the raw materials and refining them correctly.
Why are AMD driver distribution still shit tier /g/. I recently tried updating my drivers from 15.1 to 16.3 but after update is finished its still the same version. Already tried DDU clean uninstall and same issue.
