I have a 4790 and I expect to see an upgrade in about 20 years. The advances of single threaded performance is ridiculous, about 5% each year and decelerating. Unless they go to a completely different technological paradigm this is getting worse and worse.

I don't blame them either. There are quantum mechanical limits and photo-lithography challenges.

It might be easier to go to Mars at this point than to speed the transistor by more than 5% a year.

G-guys... How do I even do anything with my basic programming knowledge. I just want to make JavaScript browser basic 2D vidya and tutorials teach me how to do nothing irl.

Even the most basic IT problems can make me go crazy when I try to google answers and I am basically dealing with black box problems. Is this what programming is like? I understand conditionals, loops, and recursion and functions. But that stuff doesn't add up to being able to do anything.

When will this meme die? ThinkPads were literally designed for productivity, and you can definitely play games on them. The P50/70 has decent performance, and once Thunderbolt 3 becomes standard on most laptops, any business-class laptop can be a gaming machine.

tl;dr What is the best Linux distro for a sever for a small financial corporation?

I'm opening a mortgage brokerage firm in the US this year. This is a very small yet highly profitable business, at max we may have 4 employees, so nothing too enormous. Before I open my firm, I've been undertaking studying everything possible related to IT, servers, sysadmin duties, etc, as I will be undertaking all of these responsibilities within my business.

I've been using and learning all about Linux for about 3 weeks off Ubuntu due to it's accessibility and noob-friendliness. I plan to feel totally comfortable in the OS before moving on to selecting distros based on functionality. From that point on, I'm going to have to purchase a designated server to host the web server, email server, etc on.
