Let's just take a second to appreciate the fact that technology has gone so far. 10 years ago We couldn't even begin to think about terabyte drives at the pricing we have nowadays. Now we can buy a 1Tb drive at only £60. With 1gb being 50~p. We have increased our computing power at least 100 fold. That is a monumental achievement. Imagine what we could do given another 10 years.
recent tangible advancement isn't really all that impressive since software hasn't really kept up, a low-end core 2 shitbox in 2017 stands far more of a chance than a flagship dual-slot pentium II system ever had in 2007
pricing is definitely another story though, it's amazing what you can get for so little now, things were a bit more exciting in the past but I wouldn't give up the modern era for anything almost on the basis of that alone

well, some software does take years to fully develop. We're living (in terms of software) a few years ago because of this.

>£60
You're getting ripped off. I bought a 1TB drive for 61 aud.
That feel when you get away with stealing the Razer Prototype
>>58478477
more information please
>>58478566
someone at CES 2017 stole one of Razer's prototype laptops. on top of that Razer is paying mad money for the guys head. as a joke, people are pointing fingers at linus for the act, even photoshopping him walking away looking all nervous with the laptop in hand.
"This note is to confirm that two Razer Project Valerie laptop prototypes were stolen from the Razer booth at CES. The product was taken from the Razer press room at approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017. A $25,000 reward is being offered for original information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of a criminal suspect."

Is this fixable?
>>58478390
if you have to ask, you cant do it
>>58478390
if you are very good at soldering, if not then no
you could probably buy a whole new one for less than the time and tool investment you would need to jank that shit together
get some super thin headphone wire and scrape to bare metal on the old ribbon cable solder the wires to new usb jack
Ive tried its fucking hard without good tools
We removed dust and installed a new 3 TB Hard-Drive, a new fan and a Radeon 7850 AMD GPU for your sons gaming needs.
A Terabyte can store up to 700 days of music. He will never run out of space.
We also installed a new version of Windows 8.1 Home Edition so he can play games with his friends!
That'll make $1430.

Is it worth it using?
It's worth doing if you want to really master the inner workings of Linux and completely understand it. You'll probably want to switch to Gentoo once you've truly mastered it and done a couple LFS builds, though.
So yes, it is worth is IMO.
>>58478156
Also, the supplied online documentation is superb. You won't need a book or any other resources as a noob.
>>58478066
I love it. I use arch for laptop but lfs for desktop. Something just feels nice about having a linux from scratch distro. PLUS, it's system V.

What the fuck is wrong with webdev?
>>58478055
it's a field of art majors rather than CS majors.
It's a clusterfuck of frameworks on top of frameworks cobbled together by people who are trying to make JavaScript less shitty. An impossible goal.
>>58478164
This is because the industry keeps recreating languages and APIs. This cycle is on steroids when it comes to webdev.
I don't know what the fucking issue is, but everyone thinks that some new language or framework/API is going to revolutionize productivity. But a new foundation means rebuilding the entire house. So maybe you get a 5% productivity gain using Python instead of C++. But you also lose access to hundreds of thousands of man hours worth of code across the industry. You'll never make that up. Any productivity gains will always be swallowed up by that.
I feel like everything at the level of languages/frameworks has been a meme since about 2000. We're not actually going any where, we're just splintering developers into separate groups. People develop wide knowledge (multiple languages, frameworks, APIs) but not deep knowledge (most efficient way to perform a task).
It's really rather discouraging.

Is the Bloomberg Terminal's hardware pure art even though it's technically function over form unlike when Applel tries to make their hardware "art"?
>>58478049
Life imitates art and art serves no purpose but itself, art for arts sake.
This may contradict the esthetic function of a terminal being engaged within an external flux which isn't determinable single handedly as an art form originated from the terminal, although it serves as a hallmark point of reference within the trade.
Calling the hardware art without function would therefore imply a static and standalone solution which the bb terminal isn't in its purpose, therefore you could say the bb terminal is a manifestation of the pinnacle of branded activity under a monolithic aegis, yet its design serves its active function which cannot be removed to be considered as art unless the terminal is held liable to its activity while being staic within a concept as a representation of its function. The fact remains that hardware in itself needs to be functional and the industries of bb and apple are completely different but if you look at the hardware esthetic in itself, the bb terminal begs to be connected and active where the apple product can very well be useless and have some esthetic.

>Life imitates art and art serves no purpose but itself, art for arts sake.
Except that's wrong. Pretty much all of the world's most revered art was made before l'art pour l'art movement. "art for art's sake" has only given us shit like Dadaism.
Pic related 32gb Cruzerblade is detected as a 0Mb unrecognizable unformattable device by my computer after it has returned a failed to write message when I was copying some pirated music onto it. I didn't unplug it while writing, there was no power outage and I was using the front usb socket (I have never had any problems with it before)
Things I tried:
>>dicking around in devmgmt.msc to no avail
>>downloading sandisk's shitty management tool, it said it can only work with a sandisk device
>>rufus, can't detect the drive
So my question is, if rufus can't detect it, can anything at all? Is there hope, or should I just pummel it into bits with a hammer and never buy sandisk junk ever again?
Never buy sandick

Live in Queensland Australia, humid as fuck. Would I be better off achieving comfort with a dehumidifier or air con?. I already have a fan on me but its the humidity that is getting to me, how ever would i be better off dumping the fan and just going of air con?
>>58477908
Depends. Do you want hot dry air or cool moist air? The humidity wouldn't be bothering you so much if the air wasn't hot as shit.
>>58477908

What kind of garbage VPN's do you use nowadays?
>>58477887
No reason to use a VPN, if some filthy Google worker wants to sift through my disgusting Google searches and torture themselves looking at the content of each search, then they can go ahead.
My ISP providers can do the same, go ahead and ENJOY the content that I browse.

Best portable battery pack?
I had one of these and it was garbage. The only way to charge it was through the micro USB port and the actual port itself broke off inside the device due to some light force. And there is no way to crack open the device. I've even tried spudgers to try and get it open but no hope. 80 bucks down the drain due to stupid design.
TL;DR: Best battery pack?
