Other ones to consider
T61p (when maxed out with FHD,8gb ram and so on)
X61
T400 (if cheap)
W700ds (super rare and expensive but everyone wants one)

Does a guide/roadmap like the one in the image i've provided exist for /g/ related things?
Whenever you go to learn something like coding from the internet, you always get a "watch this video that'll teach you to do one very specific thing" or "go to this website and learn to do one very specific task" You very rarely get a guide that tells you what concepts you should be learning/practicing and in what order, you end up learning one thing and then you're shit out of luck, unaware of what you should be looking into next.

If you've got any i'd greatly appreciate if you'd share.

Bump for OP
>>
I'd recommend one of the following:
freecodecamp.com (for web dev)
theodinproject.com (for web dev)
https://github.com/open-source-society/computer-science (the best one - essentially a FOSS "CS degree" composed of MOOCs)
Unfortunately, there doesn't exist a catchall "roadmap", because there are tons of subfields:
Web
Mobile, which can be divided into Android/iOS
Desktop, which can vary based on desktop
Enterprise, i.e. servers and things for big businesses
Embedded
(and that's just a starter). Point is, there are tons of specialties, and given all the specialties there's no ONE guide. And for things that aren't webdev, there's pretty much none.
TL;DR:
Want web dev position? Do FCC or TOP.
Want a basic-to-intermediate understanding of the field? Do the above github link.
Want any other position? It boils down to reading a ton and coding a ton.
Best of luck.

Oh, that was a nice first class on your CS shit

Is this the best general purpose 'modern' laptop today?
pros
>arguably perfect form factor
>great battery life
>great build quality
>windows 10 and linux(!) support

cons
>soldered ram
>only 1 thunderbolt capable usb-c
>coil whine
>weird auto brightness firmware bug

Comparable laptops:
HP Spectre
Asus Zenbook

New X1 Carbon might be comparable but its not out yet

Macbook Pro obviously is but the price isn't similar at all (about a $500 diff in price)

I'd prefer something a bit chunkier than an ultrabook, like a 14" ThinkPad but those have gotten super expensive recently for some really shitty specifications. Maybe the T470s will be worth it but I doubt it.

You forgot 'overpriced' and 'no dedicated gpu' in cons OP.
>>
>>58486943
Cons I listed were for laptops in its class

>overpriced
I actually think its the most reasonably priced for laptops in its class. There are always 10% or more off coupons. There's a good deal on the Spectre right now but I don't think there's anything with better pricing than the Dells in general (please post example if you have 'em, I'm looking to buy)

>dedicated gpu
The best you're going to get with this form factor is Iris Pro. The highest end XPS13 has an Iris Pro. I'd defo trade thickness for a dedicated GPU, my older Dell (Latitude X2000 or something, forget what it was called) had a dedicated Radeon in a 12" form factor but I don't see that happening again soon.

The best we can hope for is eGPU. Hopefully enclosures will become < $200 soon. I'm willing to take a 15% hit for using an eGPU.

>>weird auto brightness firmware bug
That hasn't been a thing for nearly two years.

>>58486943
>'no dedicated gpu'
For what purpose? If you need to render something then you shouldn't be considering a laptop.

I need to upgrade my GTX 750ti. Both the RX 480 8GB and GTX 1060 8GB are what I'm looking at but cant decide.

I don't use nvidia game stream and can replace shadowplay with nearly anything. I do use Photoshop and Premier but would performance be impacted on AMD since I lose CUDA?

>>58486501
How often do you upgrade your GPU or plan to upgrade?

If not within a year and a half then the 480. If you will replace it with the next generation then go 1060.
