Hey /g/, I'm a college freshman and sort of smart.
Is getting a master's in computer engineering a good idea?
What about in computer science instead?
I have no real money, so I'd take on student debt.
Thanks for any help I get.

Not worth

Thanks

don't take advice from randoms on the internet
My carrier is Verizon in the US. Can I just get any android phone and stick the sim card in there or are there restrictions? Thanks /g/

bimp
Ask over in smartphone general you dumbo.
>>58520658
ONLY if it supports CDMA
they will try to sell you a new sim card if you trim down a micro also. You can tell them to give it to you for free or fuck off though. Verizon is a shit company and cant wait to switch to literally anything else. Their coverage is no better than at&t
I have the neural painting code set up on my machine from (https://github.com/jcjohnson/neural-style) and I am going to be running it on all images posted in this thread and giving the results back

you need two images to combine, or i have some default ones, like starry night and the mona lisa
Been looking for so long, never gotten anywhere.
Anyone knows a diy web hosting tutorial?
Please?
>>58520558
What do you mean by DIY?
A home server? In the cloud?
>>58520615
Was thinking more of a home server, yeah
>>58520646
What's your home internet like then? Are you NATed? Are incoming packets blocked? Is it fast enough?
Are standing desks a meme?

Yes

>Want to do have Linux on bare metal and W10 on VM with PCI passthrough
>Looks like I have to get new hardware
>If I stick with Intel, I lose the ability to overclock because unlocked chips don't have VT-d for some reason
>If I choose AMD, I have to buy a second GPU but there are no features locked out
Should I just jump ship to AMD? Intel's Jewish practices are getting on my nerves but I do like how efficient their chips are.

>>58520503
With the efficiency comes less heat generation which is a problem for me in Summer.

Just turn the ac up lol
1 single $1500 computer of your choice, or 2 $750 computers (desktop + laptop or whatever combination)? choose wisely

I'm at my wit's end here, /g/. Here is my problem:
I have a 4k TV with a 120hz panel. It only accepts HDMI input.
I have a GTX 1070 in my PC. I would like to get a 4k, 120hz output from the PC to the TV (with HDR-10 if at all possible). Preferably over a display port-to-HDMI cable.
What cable do I need? The best that I've been able to find are cables claiming to do (somewhat dubiously) 4k at 60hz.
Is my only choice an HDMI 2.0 cable? The reason I would prefer a displayport-to-hdmi solution is that I have a Vive hooked up to the PC over HDMI, and there is only one HDMI 2.0 port on the GPU. I've heard people have had issues using the displayport input on the Vive, so I've wanted to avoid it.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Internal frequency of panel being 120Hz doesn't mean it accepts 120Hz input. All common non shady HDMI cables should support 4k@60Hz HDMI 2.0 standard which is the best you can do today with consumer TVs.

>Internal frequency of panel being 120Hz doesn't mean it accepts 120Hz input.
Sounds like I fucked up then. Kind of wanted to be able to output 120hz, so that 120 FPS could be useful to me. I specifically stepped up to this model because it is a 120hz panel (TrueMotion 240hz or whatever the fuck bullshit that is; I turned that off).

isnt that the poor people 240hz?should have got a sony
why is amd so bad no kappa

Implying keeping your room warm in the winter months is bad.

It's his fucking company, he can do whatever the shit he wants with it.
Everyone who writes even noob-tier Excel VBA macros knows that shit you tryhard jew
comparing the amiga 500 to every other computer from the era, everything just comes short in comparison and they are massively more expensive
while even the macintosh se was still monochrome, the amiga could do up to 32 colours and had the same specs.
the macintosh was around $3000 while the amiga was only $600
plus the games on the amiga where as good if not better than its arcade counterparts
how did commodore make such a capable machine this cheap?
zero profit margins and obsolete components
No CD-ROM
No MPEG
No Thanks
>>58520263
who the fuck had a cd rom back then?
plus mpeg wasnt even around back then
Not trying to be too much of a memeing fuckface here, but does anybody else look at how thin laptops are nowadays and think, "Man, how powerful could that thing be if they just gave it an extra half an inch?" I get that the average consumer now wants a sleek looking notebook, but do you guys ever think the market will swing back towards function before form?
I hope that someday the consumer will prioritize user serviceable machines, lots of connectivity, and bring back all the mouse controls that were on older laptops.
>>58520158
>does anybody else look at how thin laptops are nowadays and think, "Man, how powerful could that thing be if they just gave it an extra half an inch?"
Not really, because power isn't directly proportional to thickness and laptops that fulfill that requirement already exist and will continue to exist for a long time, the reason you don't use one is because you're too much of a jew to shell out for it, or, well, gee, a portable that skimps on portability isn't very useful, now, is it?
Fags who think everything is a MacBook or a subnotebook are even worse than the fags that push them.
>>58520225
Of course power isn't proportional to thickness, you're taking what I'm saying too literally. I also fail to see how anything that is an inch thick or less can have it's portability be significantly improved by making it thinner. Length and width? Sure, but not thickness.
I mean to say that it seems like the industrial designers have too much control over the final product. The actual technical designers seem to be doing the bidding of the artists and ergonomics is suffering for it.
>"Man, how powerful could that thing be if they just gave it an extra half an inch?"
how much could they do with that extra inch tho. I have a relatively thick laptop and i have almost no benefit over a thin laptop, other than 2 extra usb ports and the possibility of having an optical drive (which i'll never install)
1080p 120+ fps > 4k -60
4k is a meme, can we all agree?
The usage of the word "meme" is beyond raped on 4chan. What the fuck are you even asking?
I'm with you, OP. HDR screens with perfect black are a much better investment than 4k resolutions.
>>58520151
Depends. I remember when I had my 290 and my freesync monitor and was playing BF4 on Ultra at 1440p. I was getting around 70 ~ 80 fps and was the smoothest shit ever. So I bought a 980ti and gsync monitor and it was still pretty choppy even though I got 120fps.
frametimes > fps
60 fps with perfectly synced frame times is pretty smooth and even more so at 120.
Is this worthwhile or is it an academic over complicating things?
I think it's actually one of the best computer courses out there.

If you want an abstract or mathematical perspective on programming then SICP is amazing.
If you're intelligent and like abstractions and high-level thinking then SICP is for you.
If you like elegant ideas and the certitude of formal logic then SICP is for you.
If you are white or you hate Java then SICP is for you.
If you're a burger flipper or you just want to lern 2 codez just so you can get a job or you don't give a fuck about elegant thought then SICP is not for you.
If you want concrete and/or low level details then SICP is not for you.
If you're a street-shitting pajeet then SICP isn't for you.
Hope that helps.
sicp is difficult to pick up and stay on schedule with. like its inane. plus mit dont use it anymore.
