What exactly stops a rogue package maintainer from pushing malware to us Gnu/Linux users?
>>58559392
It's all malware.
You didn't think they did it for free, did you?
>>58559424
delete...
The fact that someone would notice and they would no longer be a package maintainer after that.
Unless you use Arch and accept packages up your ass from every literally who on the internet. I hope you packed some lube.

was it worth it? how do I get a job in software dev if (my original plan) if I don't know what I'm doing? and how do I learn if I'm not using any of the stuff I learn?
>>58559228
its same for me, i wanted to learn python, stuck at which version to learn because one says learn 2.7 others says learn 3.x. Decided to learn 3.x but idk what to do with it.

Wait, you want to get a job in software development by only learning Python all by yourself?
You're not going to get a job this way.

Hey /g/ can someone help me I am not good at coomputer
Would it be possible to develop a website that tracks:
1.) the type of device the user is viewing on
2.) the originating website the user clicked the link for my website from
For #2, would the most straightforward solution just be to have different URLs that each increment a different variable on a server somwhere when clicked and subsequently redirect the user to my website, and then I could post a different URL on facebook vs. twitter for example, to get an idea of the proportion of visitors arriving from each different website on which a link to my website has been posted?
Also any suggestions on how a layperson could do this? I have to develop a survey btw.
Pls help, /g/
>>58559172
Firstly, why not just two fields to the survey:
1) What device are you viewing on?
2) How did you find this survey?
That is completely transparent to the user as to what data you are collecting from them and requires no technical know-how.
But of course this is the *future* where respect of privacy doesn't exist, so you probably want a different solution.
1) What is a user-agent-string?
2) What is a referrer?
>>58559172
Without a concept of how the internet current operates against standard HTTP requests, any answers provided to you will go straight over your head.
>>58560165
The correct answer.

https://www.google.com/#q=tracking+the+referrer+header
There you go, little baby. I did the thing for you. Just click some links. You'll be fine. ;)

Not really, just use Arch.

>connect everything

>there's light, there's fan, but there's no beep and it then turns off
What could it be? Best case scenario would be me just messing up the case-mobo connections, but that's not very likely.
Worst case scenario the PSU is fucked/wont work
>>58558721
actually the worst scenario is you shorting out the motherboard i suggest you unplug everything and go one by one
>>58558721
GPU probably not properly connected to the rail (push it in hard). Could be PSU has not enough power though.
>>58558778
>GPU not connected to the rail
You mean the PCI-E or the cables that go PSU-GPU?
If the PSU doesn't has enough power that would be a great reason to swap the PSU to one that lets me take the cables off (seriously, my cable management its a mess of unused wires). But that would still be a kick in the balls. I use a non-Overclocked single GPU air-cooled computer with a 750 watts PSU. I thought it would be enough.
Extra detail: Used thermic glue on the GPU core and the CPU core. Could this be a sign of fucked up cores by me using it badly? I used Titan Nano Grease and i thought it was odd how liquid-y it was.

I am very torn whether i should run Linux or Windows.
Windows just works but those damn updates makes my computer restart whenever i leave it powered on with some important software running, making me lose work.
Whenever i want to watch netflix on my laptop with my gf we have to wait 10 minutes to start that piece of shit because windows is applying updates. Yes i use a SSD.
Why isn't there a decent consumer OS? I just need Chrome, Spotify, Eclipse, Skype and an office suite.

Im currently running Windows 10. I dont want my PC to automatically install a new OS whenever i leave it on which happens with Windows 7 ffs
Consider ChromeOS, Chad.

Is the C27FG70FQU worth its price tag?
Are curved monitors a marketing meme, and are they actually bad?
Is there a better choice available that also supports freesync, and is preferably VA or IPS/PLS?
27" is still just 1080p, IMO resolution is too low. the 24" VA 144Hz is fine, 1Ms gtg is no joke some ppl say its as fast as a TN panel
check this out, i asked the same question few days ago, some anon linked this forum

maybe if all you do all day is play games, but otherwise fuck no. even for games, that pixel density will start to show.
1080p on anything larger than 24" is a fucking joke (not counting TVs).
