Hey /g/. I'm finally getting my shit together and am going to buy an SSD. I've been running on the same 1TB WesternDigital HDD since 2009 now and it's getting a little slow sometimes.
Now to the point, I have no idea about what SSD to get. I'm thinking of just getting a 120gb for my OS and some games and programs. What would you recommend? I've heard a lot of good stuff about Samsung ones, are they worth the minor extra cost or would I notice no difference with a cheaper brand? I'm more concerned about getting one that won't break down than on one that is a bit faster.
Thankful for any help. Pic related is the HDD I have now.
please respond
Intel is worth the extra cost
Samsung is not
If you just what a cheapo decent SSD, SanDick is ok.
Get at least 256GB.

Sk hynix. Poor mans 850 evo. Try for 250gb, it's quicker and much more cost effective.

Is there a way to change the default settings of where and what size the terminal loads as? When I open terminal it opens in the top left just a hair to high. Id like it to open on the right side, top, and preferably snapped in a nice position.
also id like a way to do this with a gui as opposed to command line, either is okay just specifying a preference.
just discovered profiles, lets see if I can get this to work
Open terminal
I think it's File>Preferences
Then go into your "profile". Might as well saved the current "Unnamed" one as "Default", so you can revert to default settings.
Anyway, create a new profile and in the settings you should be able to change the size of the window.
Is Microsoft Continuum / Samsung DeX the future of consumer computing, /g/?
Don't think so, people who has monitors have already windows computers, no one stores a useless monitor they don't use
if it'll be a "famous" thing andromium would be the "future" since there isn't any brand limitation, unlike Jewsoft or Jewsung
Yes once Superbook clones come out.
>>58750923
No, but a version of it may possibly be the future.
Nobody wants to use Samsung's android OS for work. However nobody wants to use Windows phones.
If apple made a continuum-like device, either iPad or iPhone based, it could be successful in making those devices proper PC competitors. Of course it would have to be an OS more like macOS rather than iOS purely for mouse functionality and library of actually useful applications (xcode, adobe, whatever you use on your mac).
My phone is almost dead and i can't afford a new one, it's a Huawei Ascend y530 (pic)
It present this problems:
-When i start the phone com.android.systemmui has stopped, this don't let me start any app, i find that if i uninstall google updates it will stop, but i can't enter to the Play Store.
-When i try the start the phone the screen turn black with the word "android" and never starts working
-I try to reebot everything and nothing work
-The phone don't let me put wifi and does not recognize the SIM card, but recognize the SD card
-I try to connect the phone to the pc but it does not recognize it
WTF IT'S HAPPENING!?
HOW TO SOLVE THIS!?
My iPhone 6S+ doesn't have this problem
but really, try to restore it to default (volume down+power while the phone is turned off, or whatever it is for huawei phones)

i try this but the problem still the same

Parents are throwing away an iMac from 2006 maybe 2007. Figured I'd see if anyone could recommend an autistic project for me to try with it before it ends up in the dumpster. I'll post more details tonight when I boot it up.
I'm interested is some general ideas, some googling lead me to believe throwing Linux on it isn't as easy as using a live cd/USB.

is it PPC ?
Here's a project for you. Sell it.
People are willing to pay for these.

Question about HDMI port, i was using a AMD 7950 with a vga cable and dvi adapter to connect to the GPU, now i upgraded to a gtx 1060, and connected via HDMI, but alt tabbing full screen games got slower, i read its because of the HDMI, that they dont like to switch resolutions or something, also that its supposed to be on GPU end.
So, would i benefit from this HDMI to DVI-D adapter? (since the 1060 has hdmi, display port and dvi-d ports) my monitor only has hdmi and vga.
>>58750608
>So, would i benefit from this HDMI to DVI-D adapter?
No.
>>58750638
good answer, why? i know the signal is the same, but i would be using a different port on the GPU, does the slow alt tab thing comes from the monitor port or the GPU one? i only found info about being on the GPU one.
what if the refresh rate of windows is set to default to 59hz? would that cause a slow alt tab since the full screen aplication is running at 60hz? it seems to me that HDMI is shit when switching modes, is DVI or even display port the same?

Hey folks, periodically backblaze will release a blog post detailing the failure rates of the hard drives they use in their data centers, listed by manufacturer and specific drive types. In case you missed yesterday's blog post, here it is: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-benchmark-stats-2016/
In the past I felt that these reports were useful for deciding which drive to purchase for my own needs. However, I'm a consumer and as such I don't put nearly the stress on the drives that an enterprise organization does. The hard drives in my PC and the ones I'll be putting in the NAS I build later in the month will be very lightly used, comparably. Does this difference in usage make those reports useless to a consumer?
No one really knows, but I would assume that if a certain model has a low death rate in high stress environment it would also be good even if used more lightly.
>>58750693
inb4 this logical conclusion is disputed without counterargument by Seagate fanbois.
>why the hell are there HDD hardware fanboys in the first place
>>58750764
Western Digital still has higher failure rates than Seagate.
