Yo /g/,
My work just gave out our bonuses and I'm spending mine on a decent laptop. I have a few requirements:
- i7 Kaby Lake
- GTX 1060/1070 for VR later down the road
- Keyboard layout that isn't garbage (looking at a few and it seems having the windows key on the right and fucked up arrow key placement plagues a lot of gaming laptops
-256gig SSD or bigger; HDD-less if possible
- RGB I don't care about
- Under $1700 shipped and done
- decent enough build quality. I'm coming from a ThinkPad T440p and don't want to downgrade to an HP with silver-spray-painted Chinesium case
Anyone have any suggestions? All I can find is fugly MSIs and ASUS ROG series machines. What I'm essentially looking for is a gaming thinkpad but they don't make those- and a Razer Blade Pro or standard Razer Blade is out of my price range

Ive installed Linux on a couple of MBPs and it works. I personaly use Lubuntu and it works perfect. All the Wifi-drivers and similary often problematic drivers work just fine!
The one thing that is a bit anoying is apples new SIP (System integrity Protocol) that came with El Captian, it prevents you from doing any low level stuff while activated.
But how to deactivate that is specified in rEFInds wiki!

you can easily install Arch on its own partiton but I don't bother anymore. I have Arch in a VM but don't need it that much. MacOSX is POSIX and everything runs and you can compile anything.

Any networking guys wanna fill me in on the complexity of creating a site to site VPN network?
I have google fiber and want to run a tunnel straight to another google fiber house. Why? File and service sharing. I've setup openVPN for personal use but not sure on the amount of work for what I would like to accomplish.
Is there a certain level of hardware I should be aiming for to get the most speed? I see a lot of directions for cisco ASA's but wasn't sure if a simple pfsense box would do it? Also, each house would need a different set of IP address handed out right?
The google fiber box itself is shit for any advanced settings and since I have the TV service to there really isn't a solid replacement for it.
